I have had painful shingles on the right buttock, affecting the rectum, right leg and foot. This started at beginning of Feb.08. After medication, including Lyrica, Lysene, and recommendations from nutritional health I started to feel better. I also had an epidural some weeks ago which injected cortisone. The pain started to fade, and I prepared to travel on a trip. There was quite a lot of preparation beforehand and on the day before I was supposed to travel - the pain returned. So, I canceled my trip. During all this time, I continued with the Lyrica. Lyrica also is constipating which presents an added problem, balancing the right medication which rellieves constipation without pain in the outer surface. I want to know what caused it to return. It is not so painful as when it started, but maybe it could be if I didnn't take the pain reliever. Any ideas on how to recover soon. Thank-you.
I was 32 years old at the time.  1975.  It hit & it hit very hard.  The pain came even before the blisters came to happen.  I spent 9 days hospitalized with this dreadful ordeal.  The shingles covered the back of my neck.  My entire left shoulder. The infection spread to my left side torso & back.   It also broke out on my upper left leg area.  The first two weeks I was awash in Demerol.  My 1st experience with a narcotic. Phew!  I then developed a secondary infection.  Because of the anti-biotic, I had to stop the pain narcotic.  The pain was like hot coals.  Unrelenting.  I hurt so bad I could not lay down to sleep.  I had to sleep sitting up in a high back chair.  My mother & sister changed my bandages.  That was also painful.  I could not wear a shirt.  Between the infection & all the medicines I did not eat anything.  My weight dropped profoundly.  It took about about 8 weeks for the sores to finally go away.  I had to take sick leave from work.  Two months worth.  My eyes sunk back into my face & turned very dark around the eye socket areas.  Talk about a train wreck!  Now today, the skin area in the cervical vertebrae area (sp?) is completely numb.  A large part my left shoulder skin area is also numb.  Sometimes I get a bit of tingling in these areas I mentioned.  I had chicken pox when I was about 8 or 9 years old.  I was warned by my doctor not to be around somebody with active chicken pox.  So when my daughter had the pox, I slept at my parents home for about 3 weeks; fearful of the consequences otherwise.  This is how it happened. The real thing.  The very painful real thing.  Thanks for listening.
