I am also looking for the answer why my 13 yr. old son's nails (6 of them) are falling off at the same time, with new nails coming out to push the old ones. I found your son's case similar to my son's, he also had "HAND/FOOT AND MOUTH DISEASE MORE THAN A MONTH A GO. Maybe this what caused this.

The same thing is happening to my 3 year old daughter. She was diagnosed with chickenpox 6 weeks ago. The rash only affected her arms, legs and neck. Now her fingernails are peeling off! Looks terrible but doesn't seem to be bothering her very much. I have been painting her nails with liquid bandage daily so that they don't rip off and cause pain, and putting on Polysporin at night to help prevent infection. Hope this helps someone.

Makes sense! I came here because my 4 year old daughters finger and toenails keep falling off. She did get hand foot mouth disease about 6-8 weeks ago. I would of never puit the coorelation together. Glad to know they'll grow back and be fine on their own :) THanks!

All 3 of my daughter (6, 4, 4) have the loosing of nails right now...they had Hand Foot and Mouth virus about 4-6 weeks ago and a lot of things I have read others had this same thing. IDK if your child had HFM or not but this is what I am assuming since it has happened MANY times to others in the past. There is also a genetic disorder called homocystinuria that causes this to happen as well.
