I agree with you. I have used hydro cortisone for many years whenever I had a sore spot anywhere on my body. Now I use it all the time on my hemmers. One time I asked my doctor about it and she said it was fine anywhere except not to put it inside any openings. That would include mouth, anus and vagina. She said not to worry if it gets in due to applying it near the hole but just don't shove it inside on purpose.
It works great for me and usually relieves most sore spots over night.
It can be a light creamy texture, really soft almost liquid, or thick like Vaseline so you may have to try different brands to find the style you prefer.

Hi I posted a week ago on here (bottom of page 5). I should have mentioned that getting frequent erections and not ejaculating will possibly lead to vasocongestion (blue balls) which is uncomfortable and usually needs an ejaculation or two to relieve it. So maybe it's better not get erections and just try and air it someway. Mine is gradually improving and I am getting better at treating it. I live in the UK by the way and Savlon cream here does seem to improve it especially any redness or inflammation.

Well after four weeks I decided to go to the doctor. He determined that I have a form of dermatitis and suggested that I use an anti-fungal cream like lotrimin. He said it should clear up within two weeks if not he can recommend a dermatologist. But he confirmed to me that it is not serious. Thanks for all your help here. I'll let you know if the cream works.

Have you tried Clotrimazole (Lotrimin). I'm using it now. I have a small circular flat mark on the left side of the shaft. Doc thinks it's nothing serious but it could be friction or a touch of a fungal infection. He told me to use this for 2 weeks. I notice a little bit difference but at least it's not worse.

I ALSO have the same problem It's been a month since I had sex and didn't slow down to lube properly. I was rubbed raw. The head of my penis has healed and left a scar. The shaft keeps getting extra dry and peeling in the area where my foreskin was removed (I'm cirmumcised). There is still one spot about 1/4" diameter which won't heal. I've tried Neosporin, and a steroid that my partner has. Neither one of them seemed to have any effect. Now that one spot looks infected. I plan to use neosporin on it until the infection goes away, then try the suggestions that have been made in this post. I sure hope one of them works.

Well I went to the doctor for a round circular redish mark on my penile shaft left side under the head about three weeks ago. Rather small but annoying. Not painful. He told me that it could be a form of dermititis (sp?) or a slight fungal issue. He also said if it doesn't clear up in two weeks he could recommend a dermatologist. He ruled out any type of cancer. I used Lotrimin for two weeks. It got a little better but it didn't heal up but hasn't gotton worse. Before considering a dermatologist I'm going to try Hydrocortizone for a week. My doctor did say it could be a form of dermititis which works better with hydrocortizone. I'm guessing I didn't have a fungal issue. I'll let you know how it works. Any other suggestions that could help? One of the worst things you can do is stretch the area - meaning keep looking at it every few hours or picking at it. It just makes it more red. thanks again everyone!

COULD IT BE TOO TIGHT OF A CIRCUMCISION????
I have had a friction rash on my penis (around the rim of the head and circumcision area) for 3 and a half months now. I have tried a lot of things and nothing seems to work (I tried Desitin, cortisone cream.....made it worse; vaseline, mineral oil, collagen moisturizer). I have had it this bad only 2 or 3 other times in my life. I always seem to have somewhat of a rash in the circumcision area, but it usually heals after sex or masterbation in 2 or 3 days. The first time I had it bad was when I was 36. I am now 52. The skin thins out when you get older so I think that is a contributing factor. But, my problem (which may be the same problem as many of you) is having had too tight of a circumcision (too much skin taken off). When I have erections, the skin gets very tight. I cannot really move the skin up and down along the shaft the way many other men are able to do. My doctor believes this skin tightness makes the skin more susceptible to friction, and hence, friction burns. I have not had sex or masterbated since it started in March (it is now mid-June). I haven't tried some of the remedies discussed on this blog (i.e., bio oil, Penaten cream, Bach Rescue Remedy, etc., but maybe I will try some of them). The only thing so far that helps somewhat is "Vaseline Collegen/elastin firming moisturizer" in the light blue pump container, available at Target. But, it has not cleared it up completely. Everything else I tried has made it worse.
