I've had that same smell when having a scan of my head. I told the radiologist and he thought it was weird, but then he smelled it, too. It is a terrible smell and something ive never smelled before. I've had the same scan on my stomach and never smelled that.

I'm 14 had a concussion passed out had a CT scan and horrible kind of scary smell coming from the machine. I assume it is the nuclear or radioactive material's Alpha/ Beta Particle's chemical reaction from decaying causing an apparent smell. The CT scan I had produced about 2 mSv equivalent to 8 months of a humans natural background radiation. this is a significant amount of radiation to be produced in the matter of minutes leaving out the fact that this was pointed directly at my head and at times nose. i like the comment on the Chernobyl witnesses experiences mentioned earlier as well.

It's no joke. I've had catscans several times a year from the time I was 2. In 2013 I was diagnosed with a GrAde 2 diffuse astrocytoma. My prognosis 5 to 7 years to live.

Funny - I just got my sinus CT in Madison, WI and could smell something foul each time the machine ran. I mentioned it to the tech and he said no one had commented on it before. Nice to see I'm not alone.

Smells like burnt clutch or rubber to me, and magnets moving on rollers at high speeds may be the cause.

Ive had several in the past, you iron levels must be high and affected by the machince hence odor and metalic taste

I've had this twice! It "tastes" like a mild bleach to me. Both of the techs had never heard of this happening. I'm glad I'm not alone!

I had a CT scan 4 days ago, head only, and noticed a pungent smell at the very start of the scan - worried me a bit and nearly bolted, but went very quickly. Definitely in nasal cavity, smelt like hair burning or outer plastic covering of electrical (house) wiring burning. Was more intense in right nasal passage and like a 1 second evaporation and then possibly 2 seconds of smell.

Having nasal polyps, I unfortunately have to go through the ct scans and every time I experience a burnt snot or mucus smell and taste that’s quite awful. I let the techs know and they look at me like I’m crazy and say they’ve never heard anything like that and sometimes laugh it off, but it’s every time I get a CT this horrible experience happens

You would not get the same smell of radiation from a CT scanner as the radiation given out by them is small compared to what is still being given off at the Chernobyl site after all these years!
