I also have trouble with that too. I think there is a link and I know a few women who had gall bladder attacks that were triggered by pregnancy so I think hormones can bring it on. I've had my gall bladder looked at but not intensively. I didn't have the pain for about 6 months but I just started getting the pain again today and it aches into my upper right shoulder. It's not unbearable though like a true attack but more of like a gnawing pain that comes in waves. Some waves of pain are worse than others. I haven't been eating that great the past few weeks so I think that factors into it as well.

my attacks started in January and every time they would be on the first day of my periods.. but this time i had majorly infected/ inflamed my gallbladder so i am suppose to get it removed in the coming months.. so this month something new is happening to me i have a sharp pain in my gallbladder area since four days and it is indeed my fourth day of the cycle. so i went to my gynecologist told her about this and all i got was NO ITS NOT LINKED WITH UR PCOS OR UR HORMONES ... i honestly thought its just me till i found this... but if anyone finds any info on this please do post it ... hot water bottle and walk helps me with the pain .. i did two olive oil and lemon cleanses just got very few stones out the second time.. i will try it at-least 6 times before going for surgery !!

Hi
I'm thinking we are all low in magnesium - I think I've read we use this up around time of period. Gall stones are caused by too much calcium. A magnesium spray rubbed in on painful area should help.

I had my gall bladder removed over 2 years ago and since that operation, where my gall bladder was and all up my right side becomes very tender when I am on my period. It is DEFINITELY linked to my period, no doubt about it...but I don't have a gallbladder. Condundrum. I guess the hormones still course through that part of my body, or I produce more cholestrol at that time of the month....(and I am not eating more foods that are high in cholesterol than usual, in fact, I still avoid very fatty foods that used to agravate the gallbladder). Ideas anyone?

So glad to come across this thread! I just started wondering about my upper right abdominal pain under my ribs being related to my period and hormones! I've been experiencing pain, discomfort, tenderness, a feeling of "something" under my lower right rib cage on and off for the last 6 years.
Some days I have no discomfort at all, other days it's a constant "feeling" of pressure? tenderness? awareness of that area, and some days it's worse. Sometimes it's really exasperated by running and I haven't been able to run more than 1.5 miles in a LONG time because the pain gets worse and worse as I run.
The one time I went to my doctor about it, she prescribed muscle relaxers and said it was stress related, but that didn't help. I've been wary of going back since doctors never seem to LISTEN... I know my body much better than they do as I've had 40 years of exerience in it! lol They are so quick to "diagnose" and send you out the door with a prescription... really frustrating as I don't like to take pills if I can help it.
I will try some of the home remedies here and look forward to reading everyone else's experiences as well.
Thank-you for starting this conversation!

hi; ;you should perhaps lookat your liver; and reducing cholesterol / fat which it makes into bile.. fatty liver can occur; the liver also has blood functions ; which is why it may be painful during menstruation. Milk Thistle has clinical data to support that it can repair liver cells; and psylium husks secondary function is to remove bile in the bowel (which otherwise recirculates) so encouraging the liver to make more bile - and reduce cholesterol build up in the liver which it utilises to make the bile. (check the whites of your eyes to see if you have any fat deposits - this may show that fat is not being dealt with efficiently by the liver and is depositing in other areas of your body).. Apple juice and lemon juice ; as well as a host of other nutrients your liver needs for good health; perhaps start drinking warm water with lemon juice for a time.

please reduce your fat/ alcohol /caffeine intake. Look at your liver - which affects the gallbladder;
1. Milk Thistle - clinical data shows that milk thistle repairs liver cells - clinical data is lacking in supplementation intake.
2. Apple Cider vinegar - apple juice is used with gallbladder cleanses but apple cider vinegar can assist with reducing liver/gallbladder pain a little. Apple Juice is very good for you if you have this issue.
3. Artichoke; this stimulates the gallbladder.
4. psylium husks - the secondary function of which is to bind bile in the bowel and excrete ; which encourages your liver to make more bile - utilising cholesterol which builds up in the liver - sometimes if fat is not storing correctly deposits may show in your sclera (whites of the eyes).
what you may wish to do is look at taking nutrients/ supplements to improve your liver health and overall health.
a) Anti-inflammtary foodstuffs - like garlic/ turmeric ; there;s plenty others to choose from.
b) Anti-oxidant foodstuffs - berries etc. (raspberries/ cherries)
c) Vitamin intake - make sure you are taking vitamins b, c, d etc - there are a lot of things we need for cell improvement; so if you are not convinced you can do this consider buying a supergreen supplement from the health food shop so you get zinc and all those other things you may not have time to consider for improving your system.

also forgot to mention that sodium bicarb from the shop ; which CANNOT be taken with milk at all( affects the kidneys please read upon this before taking) can assit with the PH balance of acids in the oddi ; and does appear to have a calming affect on the pain in this area; although whether this is due to liver function / gallbladder or bile /acid level is unclear.
