My father had ERCP done to remove the stones from the liver ducts and I myself underwent laparoscopic gallbladder surgery. ERCP stands for endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography and it involves combining x rays and endoscopy to look at and remove the gallstones. This procedure could be used for other examinations like stomach or the beginning of the bowels.
A local anesthesia is usually used for this procedure where throat will get all numb, so you wouldn’t feel a thing.
First you will have x rays done and if gallstones are spotted, they may be removed using some kind of instruments into the scope that was already inserted and get rid of this obstruction. The duct may be opened to allow the stones to pass but if they are too big, they may be crashed, so that they could pass.
Talk to your doctor about your options.
