I had an injection two weeks ago and had more pain but sleep was ok. I had another one and started noticing problems with sleep two days later. I have barely slept in the past 3 days. I don't feel tired and have lots of energy. It is difficult getting up to go to work. I cancelled my 3rd injection. It is not worth the side effect of insomnia especially if you have to get up early for work. I notice, due to being so exhausted from the lack of sleep, that I am less alert  which is also a concnern driving to work. Anybody experienced a delay in experiencing a side effect and impact on their sleep?

I had a corisone injection yesterday and the reason I looked this up on here was to see if anyone else had a sleepless night.  Now I know.  I have a hard time sleeping anyway so always take a sleeping pill and it didn't work at all.

I had my 3rd cortizone injection over the past 10 years yesterday. Well I had one in each knee so double dose. Did not sleep at all. Watched 2 movies and still didn't get tired. Had them at 1:30pm yesterday and have not been sleepy AT ALL. Also lots of residual pain. Thanks for the info. Glad to know I am not manic!

Cortisone shot yesterday and I slept probably two hours. It is definitely a side effect. I also get a case of the hiccups for a couple of days after Cortisone or a Steroid shot.

So glad I found this thread. Got my first shot in my glute today at 11am. Also have a significant amount of pain and discomfort at the injection site and surrounding area. Feel super ansty and rather moody. Don't recall these symptoms from last time (1 yr ago).

I had my second shot in my knee within a month today. It's going on 2am and I'm wide awake with a mild headache and my jaw hurts. Is this normal?

I experienced the same exact problem. Had a cortisone shot in each one of my knees, first time ever and then acquired a headache shortly after, not terrible bad but have had it for 16 hours or so. Like you! my real problem is I have been awake all night long. I think I slept for about 20 minutes around 2 o'clock woke up at 2:20 and have been wide awake ever since. I even went into the living room to watch golf because that generally will put me right out but it didn't phase me. Its 5:30 in the morning now and I'm wide awake. I guess that it has something to do with the pain reliever that was introduced at the same time as the cortisone.DINNER

I've been getting steroid shots once or twice a year in my rt shoulder (a torn rotator cuff) for over 6 years. I know this is a long time to put off surgery but I'm very high functioning for having a complete tear and I don't want to have surgery unless I get to the point of too much pain. I had an injection yesterday morning about 10:30 am and it is now 2:04 am the following morning. I feel tired but very much awake! This is the first time I've ever experienced insomnia as a side effect. I hope it's short lived!

Hi abj236,
I had six cortisone injections in my neck yesterday which were also my first time and i experienced insomnia all night last night, i have a headache/neck ache since a couple hrs after my shots. Im incredibly nauseous and have been burning up all day today. I rung my specialist this morning who had done the injections and they said these side effects are normal, however if the nausea doesnt go away and i am concerned by it, to contact my GP.
Hope this helps.
