Having read reports on this site I was really concerned about having my operation and thought I would report my recovery. 2 days ago I had 3 very large haemorroids and 3 anal tags removed. It was laser HALO surgery for the haemorroids and I think the tags were cut and cauterized all under general anaesthetic.

They gave me a mixture of ibuprofen, paracetomol, antibiotic and when the pain was bad -tramadol (which left me painless and woozy). I have to say that the painkillers kept me quite comfortable. I had the op at 3.00pm at 7.00pm I had some light food and the tramadol before sleeping around 11.00pm. I woke up at 5.00am and was comfortable enough to walk along the hospital corridors, then back to bed. No problem passing urine as some reported.

Everyone dreads their first bowel movement but it wasn't as bad as I expected. They gave me 'Normacol' granules to keep things soft. Now, 2 days on I've had more solid BMs and it is still painful and stingy, but not intolerable. No blood past tonight for the first time which must be progress. I am taking it easy and off work and still taking the pills (except tramadol) and the granules. The tags removal is more painful and awkward than the haemorroid surgery and is still very inflamed and sensitive.

Unless I have a complication, I feel it has gone well and not as excrutiating as some others have recorded. Great to see some progress so quickly but I am told that week 2 gives the greatest improvement.

Hope this offers some comfort to others researching before going through this procedure.Due to see the consultant 4 weeks after the op.
