My husband and I have one healthy, 2 year old son whom was conceived without using infertility drugs. We are trying to have our second child which has resulted in 2 miscarriages this year. Our infertility physician put us on Femara CD 3-7 and progesterone cream 10% for CD 16-30. We have been doing this for three months and no pregnancy. We were not having problems becoming pregnant, just continuing a pregnancy. Now I cannot get pregnant either. I am starting to become frustrated. I hope this medication is working for many more people out there.

I am 27 and my husband and I have been ttc. I went off the pill 10 months ago and I have had irregular periods ever since. Went to obgyn and had tests done: blood work, hsg, semen analysis. HSG was abnormal, so I had laproscopic surgery to correct blocked tubes but once the doc looked inside...everything was clear and normal. Had more blood tests and might have PCOS but the only symptom is irregular periods. I just started Femara today day 6-10 and then I go on day 14 to have ultrasound. I hope this works and helps me ovulate. I'm also getting acupuncture done to help with infertility, would highly recommend.
I posted for the first time in Sept. Well just an update. I took 1st round of femara day 3-7 and then in for ultrasound on CD10 there were 2 huge follicles on each side, doc says likely that only two would continue to grow and others would shrink, they gave me a shot of Repronex (to make them get even bigger). Then on CD 13 hubby gave me trigger shot, boy was that interesting. I am also on estrace and progesterone, just to help in case it works. I am CD25 and really can't wait to find out. I am so stressed about doing all this for almost 3 years. If I see another neg preg test I will be so heart broken.
i got pregnant on my first round of clomid, but i used a high dose of medication 100mg right off the bat. The problem is that now I am trying to have my second child and the clomid does not work ! I am taking 200 mg, with tremendous side effects, nausea, vomitting, headaches ect. I am thinking of taking 5mg of femara combined with 200mg of clomid from days 5-9 of my cycle to get pg for sure because we have already been tyring for 7 months. Does anyone know if this is wise ? PS I have PCOS. And for the person who didn't know its polycystic ovarian syndrome. I didn't know either until I was diagnosed !
Well I had no luck with 1st round of femara and I am on 2nd round. Follicles are much bigger this month though. Keeping my finger crossed. My doctor always wants me to have the shot on day 14, some people I have heard wait until later, does it matter. Or will the trigger make you ovulate no matter what? Having a rough day, my sister-in-law just announced preg with #2, 3rd neice/nephew in family since we started ttc.
I'm in Canada and was put on femara for a couple of IUI cycles after chlomid didn't work 2+ years ago. Got pregnant and have a healthy 2 year old son. Just went back to the fertility clinic today to start round #2 and the doctor told me that the drug company pulled femara from the Canadian market for use in fertility treatment. While Femara is labelled for use with breast cancer patients, it is commonly used 'off label' for infertility as it has an effect on estrogen. The pharma company's website clearly states now that only post-menopausal women should take this drug. There are apparently increased risk of birth defects in women who have taken femara. My doctor said he will not use it anymore. Before you continue this treatment, please check into the safety and birth defects issue with your physician and do some research.
I am 29 and have been diagnosed with PCOS a long time ago. My husband and I started trying in October 2006. I took 5 rounds of Clomid, increasing the dosage every round by 50mg until 200mg was reached. I have been using a fertility monitor to monitor ovulation. I did not ovulate on Clomid. I am now on my first round of Femara (2.5 mg, days 5-9) and I hope that I will ovulate:)
My doctor assured me that to date there is no proof of birth defects caused by Femara when taken as a fertility drug. There have been cases of Femara related birth defects but only when Femara was taken during pregnancy. "This drug is in the FDA pregnancy category D. This means that Femara is known to harm an unborn baby. Do not take Femara if you are pregnant."
Furthermore I found this information: "So far, researches show no cases of miscarriage in women employing Femara in their infertility treatment. Only, the manufacturer advises that once pregnancy commences, the use of the medication must be automatically stopped. Unlike with Clomid, Femara is readily released from the body. Thus producing no other effects that might affect the tissues and other organs in adverse manner."

Hello! I am taking femara this month D3-D7. Was taking clomid with no results. Had 2 m/c in 2007. Has anyone had success taking Femara? I have low progesterone levels & a luteal phase defect. Hoping to chat with someone who is in the same unfortunate boat as myself. Clinging to some kind of hope!!! 8-|

Hello, all. This is my first time posting to this site(or any for that matter), but after reading the posts, I have to say that I feel much better. I am 25, my husband and I have been ttc for 4 years now. I saw a fertility specialist today for the first time. I was diagnosed about a year and a 1/2 ago by my general practitioner with PCOS and insulin resistance. She wanted to try a year of metformin 1000mg before sending me to a specialist. Obviously, no luck, so today found me at the specialist. He said that he doesn't like to use clomid in women with PCOS, and that he has had better luck using Femara. Therefore, with my next cycle, I will be starting Femara CD3-7, with follicular monitoring and HCG shots when the follicles are ready. We have been trying to get pregnant for 4 very long years (I have gone back to school during this time, so we haven't pursued fertility treatments until now- I'm graduating in May). While I thought that I had finally gotten to the point where I was dealing with infertility pretty well, today really hit me hard. Starting this whole, scary process is freaking me out. On one hand, I am anxious and soooo ready to be pregnant, but the thought of "what if this doesn't work" terrifies me.

Thank you to all who have posted positive stories with your experience with Femara. It really did make me feel better, and not so lonely to hear others who are going through the same thing. Everyone around me seems to be pregnant right now, and not many people understand what it is like to try for so long without success. I plan to visit this site again and will post updates along the way.

Good luck to all of us, and my prayers are with you all for quick and healthy conceiving!!!!

Hello there folks... This past summer I got pregnant with no assistance, unfortunately I lost that baby and am still heartbroken about it! But I am not going to give up. My doc decided to start me on Femara I will take my first pill in the am. My question is about side effects... Did any of you guys suffer from side effects? If so, what can I expect? Thanks
I took my last dosage of femara last night. (2.5 a day for 5 days) really no side effects other then maybe a little tired, i can handle that..

good luck to you!
My husband and I have not really been trying, but not preventing for 5 years. I have no known cause of infertility, other than a very scarred cervix from years of severe dysplasia and lots of procedures to my cervix during that time. I finally have no dysplasia, but my cervix prevents me from becoming preganant naturally. I am trying IUI this month, along with 5mg Femara during days 3-7. Today will be my fourth day taking Femara and have had no bad side effects, other than being pretty tired and having a headache.
These posts have helped a lot since this is my first time trying fertility treatment, I'm trying to find all of the info I can. I go on day 12 for my second ultrasound and then will give myself the HCG shot that night. I'm very excited and hope that this all works! Dr thinks if we get past my cervix, everything should be fine. We'll see.

Thanks to all of you for sharing your stories.
Hi Everyone:

I just need to express myself with persons that will really understand me...

The first time I used Femara was a yr ago and got pregnant in that same month, but lost the baby in Dec 28 07. It was horrible, everyone celebrating and I was crying… :'(

Today I start for the third time with Femara (Day 5 to 9) on D 12 my Dr will measure the follicule. This time my Dr add to the treatment another pill (Glucophage, or something like that) this pill is use on diabetics (I’m not diabetic).

I hope you all understand my really bad English….

Bless you all & don’t give up…
:-D
what cycle day did everyone ovulate with femara?

I can not find info on this anywhere on the web.
thank you!
