WHAT DAYS DID YOU TAKE YOUR FEMARA AND GONAL F? i'M ON FEMARA NOW AND WANT TO FINISH MY GONAL F FROM MY LAST FAILED CYCLE, BUT WAS CONCERNED ABOUT WHAT DAY TO TAKE IT.
AF just showed, my first cycle of femara did not get me a bfp. I pray #2 does! :-)
I just wanted to let everyone know that I took Femera 2.5 days 3-5 of my cycle and only got a 8 for my ovulation count. So my dr. doubled my dose for the next month. I was about 3 days late on my period which is not unusual for me but I hoped!!! Guess what I am now 7 week preg. We are so excited. Have faith in Femera it works! My husband and I have been tring for 15 months with no luck until now. Also I have sever endometriosis. My Dr. said it was the worst she had seen on someone so young. I had 2 surgurys and lupron at 23. SHe also had to glue my overy back into place. I feel like it is a mircle with my medical problems that we are preg. Don't give up!!! Good Luck
I've been reading this post for quite a few months now as it relieves a lot of stress from the pregnancy process. I thought it was about time I add my situation.
I was recently (Nov 07) diagnosed with PCOS. In November I started taking 2.5mg of Femara on days 3-7. I did 3 cycles with no luck. Due to a mix up with a lab technician, I was unaware I was to go in on day 21 of every cycle to have ovulation measured until my last visit (which was just a few weeks ago).
My OB/GYN put me on Metformin 500mg 3 times daily as blood work showed that I was insulin resistant. She also upped my Femara to 5mg days 3 through 7. I also take Provera to jump start my period since I usually go months without one.
I have about 8-10 days before I start my next round of Femara, but I will keep everyone posted on how it works. I've heard/read that 5mg usually does the trick, but we are trying our best not to get our hopes up too high.
Good luck to all you ladies and fellas having problems. The struggle makes everything that more precious when it finally happens.

i am SO glad i found this message board. I am 28 and have PCOS. I concieved naturally actually an opps when i was a senior in HS 10 yrs ago and losth im at 15 weeks. i am now married and having been ttc since oct, i did 3 cycles on clomid with my highest result being 19.7 on it(progesterone) but then the next cycle my dr switched me to femara. andi am now d14/15. I was so scared when i first starting researching it but now have my hopes up. Not too high, i dont want them TOO high lol. My dr also wants me to meet with him day 24 or so, not sure why but ok. and i have to have prog. levels on day 21. so we will see but i am hopeful this drug will work for me, as it worked for others. GOOD LUCK and baby dust to us all :-)
Well, I've recently been told that I need to start taking Femara, and every search I've done on Femara, conception, and low progesterone has taken me to you lovely ladies. So, in advance....thank you!
The whole nightmare of ttc is new to me. I am 36 years old with 2 boys (12 and 19). My husband and I decided last September to try for that girl one more time, and the journey has been stressful to say the least.
About the time that we made our decision, AF decided to go bonkers. 25 days here, 27 days there, 21 the next month - I thought I was losing my mind! Then, in January 2008, the days kept counting...37...38...41...and I got a faint positive on a pregnancy test! The very next day I started to bleed. Long story short, by the end of January I was in the hospital to remove a grapefruit-size cyst that turned out to be attached to my left fallopian tube, resulting in the loss of that tube.
Six long weeks later, I get the go-ahead to resume our attempts, but doc decides she wants to do a basic fertility workup "just in case". So I get a HSG done (not fun!) and later go in for my bloodwork. Lo and behold my lab results from my CD21 tests show a progesterone level of 3 when it should have been over 10. :-(
I'm rambling a bit here, and I know many of you have gone through much more than I have, but I've been so depressed ever since I found out. My doc put me on 2.5mg of Femara, which I start this Thursday. The more I've read about Femara, low progesterone, etc., the more my hopes are dashed. I know I should wait until after my CD23 tests to see if the Femara raises my progesterone levels and then find out the next step, but I'm sure you know how it is!
Anyway, I'll be following this thread closely and would love to hear more about all of your experiences. So far everything everyone is saying is giving me some hope. I hope mine turns out positive as well, and will update you as I find out. Maybe we can all keep each other in high spirits!

I was diagnosed with PCOS over 7years ago and have been trying to get pregnant the whole 10 years I've been married. I've been put one metformin/glocophage(sp) both made me sick as a dog so I came off of them. We have tried both metformin/glocophage combined with several rounds of clomid for the past 6 years now on and off. The emotional roller coaster got to be too much so we took a break and just desided that it wasn't our time yet. About two years ago we went to see a specialist and instead of listening to me they wanted to start me all the way at the beginning of the clomid cycle(1pill for 5days).I couldn't do it again. So with our heads down we walked out.
Back for more testing my obgym suggested Femara. I'm on the first round of it. I hope this works because the severity of the cramping matches a normal cycle for me and its rough.
If this doesn't work, we are looking at ovarian drilling to relieve some of the constant pain and he said its extreme but a very high % get pregnant after. Pray that we don't have to go that far, its a major surgery and I'm a little scared. :-(

I was diagnosed with PCOS at 15. I married my hubby at age 20. We tried for 8 years to get prognant. In the final year of trying I had 3 miscarriages (by my count). With the final miscarriage I had contractions, which led me to see my doctor. (I had a bad period one time and thought it was a miscarriage and went to the er-only to learn it was not a miscarriage). After being diagnosed as having a miscarriage, I realized symptoms I had with the previous...anyway, my doc put me on Metformin. My miscarriage was the week before Thanksgiving, I took a pragnancy test on Jan. 9 and was pregnant. I have a beautiful 3 yo daughter.
Hubby and I are trying again. I have taken one cycle of clomid, no avail. My doc has now put me on Femara. I have not started yet, so I will start the meds on day 3 of my cycle. (took preg. test this a.m. and it was negative).
I hope all of you have success, I know how devistating it can be to not be able to have children. I have to say, when I prayed for my little girl, I told God I would be happy with one. I will not be devistated if she is all we are blessed with, however I do believe she needs siblings. My dream growing up was to have 3. God's plan is perfect...so I am blessed to be a mom, even if I only have one.
Thanks for this post, it has helped me to know there have been successes with Femara.

:-) I was on Clomid for two cycles with no success. Doctor put me on Femara and I became pregnant the first try. I now have a beautiful, healthy 3 month old baby girl. It worked for me and I had no side effects at all. I was 36 at the time.
I am supposed to be starting my femara....well I'll find that as soon as my doctor calls me back. i started day 1 over the weekend (lucky me ) My husband and i have been trying for a baby for 8 years, and just finally gave up waiting and wishing for it to happen on its own.
February I went to a doctor, and they said my ultrasounds show everything is fine with me, my blood work and HSG show the same thing. His semen analysis came back w/everything normal.
I have tried looking everywhere, but cant find definate answers. What ARE the odds of femara working the first time???

My husband and I tried for two years to have a baby. After having no luck we finally went for some help. After 6 cycles of clomid, 2 cycles of injectables and still no luck, we tried injectables and IUI. I ended up pregnant with Twins on the first try. Our twins are now 6 months old and we want to try to have one more baby so they arent spread out too far. My question is, Can Femera cause multiple births? Also, has anyone done Femera and IUI together with any success? My problem is they call it a "hostile uterus" where the sperm can't make its way into the uterus itself, so they did the IUI to inject it into the uterus and it worked the first time.
My husband and I had tried to have a child for eight years. I had taken Clomid numerous times without success. We saw a RE who also dx me with PCOS as well as endometrosis stage 3. I started taking Glucophage and then he put me on Femara. I conceived my son on the first round of Femara. PRAISE GOD! He is two now and we are currently taking Femara again in hopes for another miracle. I had given up hope but Femara was a God send. Praying for you ladies.
Hi ,
I was diagnosed with PCOS about 4 years back. I have been on metformin 1000mg since then. Tried 2 cycles of Clomid, ovulated on once and not on the second but never got pregnant. Took a break of 2 years. Now my RE is putting me on femara 5mg a day and an elevated dose of metformin 1500mg. I am on my cd6 , I really really pray that femara works for me and brings our ovulation , so that I can start with IUI this month. WIll let you all know , how femara worked for me.

I thought I'd just post a quick follow-up. My blood tests are scheduled for the 28th, so I'll know how well the Femara worked soon!
I took the pills days 5-9 as directed. Had horrendous migraines (to the point of calling out from work) on days 6 & 7. I'm prone to migraines though, so not sure if related to the Femara or not. They usually don't hit me for that long, so maybe it just increased the intensity. I had some semblance of a headache for the remainder of taking the pills plus 2 days after, which is not normal for me, but at least those were tolerable.
I also had some problems with nausea the first couple of days. Both of these things are noted side effects...
I started testing with an OPK on day 11 (I forgot to start right away). Before the Femara, my cycles were running 23-25 days, which was probably a result of the low progesterone. The nurse I'm working with on this told me that if my cycles increase in length its a good sign that the Femara is doing what it should. I got the LH hit on the OPK on the 18th (day 13) - first time since we've started to conceive! (Previously I wasn't seeing any readout on the tests...)
So far things are looking positive. My tests on the 28th should tell whether the progesterone levels have increased and, if so, my pregnancy chances will increase greatly.
I won't be able to tell you all whether Femara works the first time or not unless I get really lucky. After January's surgery I only have 1 fallopian tube, so I only have 6 chances a year to get pregnant (and have no idea which side is working at a time right now). But, if it happens in the next couple of months then I'll definitely know how well Femara works and will let you know!
Hope some of this information helps those getting ready to start (or just starting) the Femara regimen.
