If the manufacturer of Femara is claiming no case of miscarriage from the use of femara, they are lying. I came online to research miscarriage from Femara because I had my first micarraiege ever when I used the femara. I only have ovulation problems and want a big family, so I have a pretty big sample to compare to..I have had 6 children before this one. I took Femara as an alternative to using the injected meds. I had used Repronex in the past. I got pregnant the 2nd cycle. We saw the heartbeat at just over 6 weeks. The baby died inside at 8.5 weeks. Turns out, there was a chromosomal problem. When I googled Femara and miscarriage, I came up with a lot. I think I found more Femara miscarriages than I did Femara sucesses. I also google Femara success and that is how I found this thread. My RE won't use the Femara anyone as he has seen too many losses on it. My OB is still using it and I was trying to weigh if it was really the Femara or if it was just a fluke. If the manufacturer felt the need to lie by claiming NO miscarriages, it makes me feel that it was the Femara.
It's time for an update!
My OB/GYN's nurse called me this morning to inform me that I ovulated! I was too excited and forgot to ask what my progesterone level actually was, but I am hoping that it was a nice and high number.
I have been feeling a bit bloated and have had some minor cramping this week. My BBT has also been elevated all week without going down.
Even though we just got the news today that I had ovulated, DH and I decided to buy a test anyway. Behold! Our BFP!
Femara works! This was my fourth cycle (although it was my first at 5mg) and first cycle using Metformin.
We have decided not to tell friends and family until we are further along due to the risk of miscarriage, but I wanted to tell everyone on the board so that your hope levels are raised.
I'm thinking of you all and wishing you the best!
I'll keep everyone updated as well.
Much love!

I was really worried about miscarriages due to femara. We have been ttc for almost 3 years and this is my first cycle on femara. I had asked my specialist about the research out there that says there is an increased risk of miscarriage due to this drug.
He reasurred me (and i've done more research and asked other doctors and they agree) that usually the miscarriages are due to other issues like PCOS. I was just recently diagnosed with PCOS and because of the LH and FSH irregularities, insulun resistance as well as low projesterone i have a higher chance of miscarriage. There are things that can be done, such as taking projesterone right after conception or taking diabetis medication that can help prevent it.
There is no proof that the miscarriages are due to the femara since many of the women who are prescribed femara have PCOS, that is why Chlomid doesn't work for them.
Just a work of caution, i spent over a year trying varying doses of Chlomid while seeing my OB/GYN. I suggested that i thought i had PCOS after doing some research on my own. My ob refussed to do the tests for PCOS saying that they would treat it the same anyway (with Chlomid). I was concerned but thought she would know best.
After quite a discussion with DH we decided to seek other medical treatment (after a year with nothing, no ovulation what-so-ever). We sought out a fertility specialist who had us try the femara after diagnosing me with PCOS. I don't know if it has worked yet (waiting the two weeks to take a test), but i feel so much better knowing what was causing the problems and come to find out Chlomid has a very low success rate in women with PCOS.
DON'T BE AFRAID TO ASK QUESTIONS AND GET A SECOND OPINION, its your body, nobody knows it better than you, and chances are if you feel that something isn't right it probably isn't.
Pray for me that hopefully this works. I know its frustrating and every month is a rollercoaster ride but i know that in the end it will totally be worth it, best of luck.

Hi ladies, I just want to say I think this site is wonderful, encouragment is so important, and when we are in the same situations, it is really meaningful.
I too have been ttc for four years, along with my husband of course, and we have taken every test from blood work to a HSG to sperm analysis, everything looking fine if not above normal. There was no explanation for my cycles running as long as seven months. So, my Dr. prescribed me one dose of provera followed by five days of Femara. This is my first attempt and first cycle. I am crossing my fingers that things work well, from the sound of others reports, I am confident!
Keep yall posted from Jess in S.C
I just wanted to let you all know that I just had a positive pregnancy test. I only had to take one cycle of Femera. I pray that God blesses each and every one of you with a child!! There is nothing like being a mom.
This will be our second child. Our daughter took us 8 years to successfully conceive, after 3 miscarriages my dr. put me on metformin. 2 weeks later I was pregnant. This time I have been taking 2000mg of metformin daily for about 8 months.
God Bless, Melissa

Hello, I was diagnosed with stage 4 endometriosis that was surgically excised in December 2007. Now that my cycles appear normal, we are trying Femara.
I will know whether it worked in a few days.
If it didn't, we plan to increase the dose to 5 mg since that seems to be the most effective dose.
Thanks for sharing the success stories!

This is my first time on femara. I have an adrenal gland disorder which makes it so I have too high of the male hormones in my body. I have had two kids previously, but sadly both have earned their wings from two separate birth defects. Our first passed away @ one month of age from a brain disorder and our son passed away at two months of age from a heart defect. We are very anxious to have another, because there is nothing so healing as holding a new baby. They put me on Provera to start a period, and then I took Femara. We will see how things go, I am waiting till I am exactly 28 days into my cycle to check for pregnancy, but I am confused about Progesterone levels. My doctor told me that I had indeed ovulated, but my level was 7.8. I have read many conflicting reports that they like it above 4 and then some that say they like it above 10. Anyone heard anything like this? Anyways, let us all know how TTC is going, and if there are any good results with Femara! Baby dust to all!
We tried for a baby for 10 years and was told that we would never have any of our own. We did get pregnant on our own in 2006 only to have her at 24 weeks and loose her when she was 12 days old. During that time I met a doctor who told me about femara. We decided that we would try it, we had been through everything else from clomid to injections to IUI and nothing worked. I do have PCOS and that was the only thing they could find wrong it was just that nothing ever worked. The first round was 2.5 and it did not work. The second round we went up to 5.0 and added estradiol and prometrium. At 35 weeks I delivered a beautifukl baby girl that is now 5 months old. She spent 2 days in NICU but only because of rapid breathing because the umbilical cord was wrapped around her neck. We are going to do Femara one more time and try for a sister for our beautiful daughter. Femara is a miracle drug and I would love to share any info that I do know with anyone who is interested. My email is _[removed]_ and just put Femara Question in the subject line. I am no expert but i do know that when NOTHING else worked this did. As far as I am concerned it is a miracle drug and I cant wait until I start the next round of in in June.
Yet another post...I am 34 years old with PCOS. My husband and I have been trying to get pregnant for a year and a half, and have just recently been put on Femara by a fertility specialist. I am in my first month of trying this drug. Right now I am on 2.5 mg's which according to most of you is not enough to work. I am going for the progesterone blood test on June 4th, and then I guess I need to wait a week or so to get those results. I am hopeful that it will have increased my ovulation. My husband and I are "trying" every day until June 4th, so I am hopeful, but we will see. I am rather distrustful right now. All we can do is wait and see. I will let you know if anything comes of it.
I am in the same boat as you...almost. I have been on Clomid since January, and either didn't O, or overstimulated...frustrating! Now it is May, and my obgyn is sending me to a Reproductive Endo. I am thinking he will put me on Femara or some other similar drug like injectables. I have PCOS and do not O. I am not overweight, exercise, and try to eat fairly well....its frustrating when you try so hard and things just dont seem to go your way.... :'(
It is so nice to know there are other women out there in the same shoes as I am in. I have been TTC since October of 2005 and had a M/C in December of 2007. I am on day 20 of my first cycle using Femara and I just talked to the dr and she said my progesterone levels were great and it looks like I ovulated!!! YAY!! I just hope everything else went right and there is a baby in there!
Good luck to everyone!
Good luck to everyone!
I was told a fews years back I had PCOS...I got knocked up when I was 18...senior in high school... o.O ....needless to say it wasn't planned..and my family was not happy!!! I had my son @ 26 wks....that was 13 years ago...and he is my life!!! But 10 yrs ago I got married and wanted more children....tried and TRIED..nothing..I was over weight...they told me to lose some weight and I would ovulate...I lost 60 lbs...I'm down to 140 lbs....for 2 yrs NOTHING!! I did 4 rounds of clomid starting @ 50 mg..up to 150 mg. My progesterone level never went up..the highest was 5.5!!!The ONLY thing it did was make me bitchy...it also made my peroid reg...every 35 days on the dot. I have NEVER had that... I would go months without one b4. Now my DR put me one Fermara 5mg-day 5-9. Am I wasn't my time?? It's really making me a wreck..waiting evey month...I would LOVE to hear some others storys!!! I don't know anyone going through something like this!!
I have stumbled across this message board a couple of times during my research on infertility and femara. It was a comfort to read that others were having the same struggles that I was, and so I hope that my situation will give others hope.
I am 24 and have been trying to get pregnant for over a year. I have PCOS and am slightly overweight. Without medication, I do not have regular periods. I think I had like 2 in 6 months last year, so my doctor put me on Clomid. I did a few rounds at a low dose before I started seeing an infertility specialist. She bumped my dose of Clomid way up, and I started testing for ovulation. I used test strips from early-pregnancy-tests and they detect the LH hormon surge, which happens before you ovulate. This was best for me as my cycles are always irregular and so it didn't help to chart my BBT to know when ovulation was over. Anyway, after 4-5 rounds on a high dose of clomid, no pregnancy, even though I was ovulating.
Last month, my doctor decided to try me on Femara. I took it on CD 5-9 and still did the LH testing, but never got a clearly positive result. My husband and I had intercourse anyway on the days I got a slightly pink line, thinking that it wouldn't hurt. After waiting about 5 days from around the day my period should have come, I took a test and it was positive!! I couldn't believe it. I felt like I was losing hope and I was so frustrated because it seemed like people were becoming pregnant and having babies all around me.
The point is, keep the faith. I'm totally behind femara now. It was a miracle for us. Good luck to all. I hope you all have your own "success" stories on here soon!

I have PCOS and have been on metformin for 6 years. My husband and I have been trying to get pregnant for 4 years with no sucess. I have tried clomid three separate times (each after giving up for several months at a time). A co-worker of mine started taking femera and ovulated on her first month. I decided to give it a try. Tomorrow is day 10 for me and I am hoping it works. Wish me luck.
I don't know whats worse the not knowing anything about the problems my body is having in conceiving or the waiting every month to see if I'm finally pregnant. I am 34 and have been married to my DH for 8 years whose 30 and a United States Marine needless to say we had a little trouble conceiving our first child (now 5). He was gone from home a lot and I was never regular with AF. We basically threatened my body to see and specialist and the next thing you know I'm talking to the doctor about his plan for testing and boom before we even get started I'm pregnant.
Now its been 5 years without any contraceptives except deployments and I'm wondering why we aren't getting pregnant. We are at a different duty station now and this one refers to actual specialists. I have found that I have a cyst but my Dr has told me not to worry. I haven't been classified with PCOS but when reading up on it I have almost every symptom of it. I am overweight (during pregnancy 1 I gained and cannot for the life of me lose any of it). I have never had a normal cycle and that just to mention a few of my problems...
My last specialist appointment I was placed on Prometrium 200mg twice daily (vaginally), Metformin 500mg three times a day, and Femara 2.5mg once a day days 5-9. I've completed all of the meds so far but I will start my first cycle of Femara tomorrow. I have to say I haven't always been a pill popper but I'm trying anything to get me pregnant one last time.
I have read everyone's stories and I'm hoping to have a much success as everyone else here...I wish all of you ladies and gents much happiness and tons of baby dust luck....*****Sprinkles******
