I am so thankful I have found this mesage board. I have been with my dh going on 10 years now, with at least 9 of them with no contraceptive at all. I have never been pregnant. I did try 3 months of clomid a couple of years ago, with no ovulation. I went back to my fertility doctor to try it again, and she gave me femara instead. She was very upbeat about the drug, and has alot of success with it. I had to take provera to have a cycle, but am now on day three and just took my first dose of femara. I pray it works. I had to have surgery to remove a begnign tumor from my left fallopian tube when I was 17, so I only have one fallopian tube, so if I ovulate on the left, it won't do anything...I pray my right ovary is strong :-) Thank you all for the words of encouragement, it means alot...
tried for 4yrs to get pregnant 14 months of clomid and nothing. I have pcos and the first cycle with femara I became pregnant. I have a beautiful 6 month old daughter and will soon try agian. Good luck to all !!!!!
I'm so glad that I came across this message board. Never imagined that I'd actually post but this site seems to be very informative and inspirational.

I'm 32yrs old, married 7yrs ago to the man of my dreams, and keeping the faith that one day we too will be blessed with a healthy baby(ies) soon! Always new that I had irregular periods but my doctors didn't diagnose me with PCOS until 4yrs when we decided to start a family.

After a terrible experience with a fertility specialist, I got pregnant with twins with Glonal F and IUI (Clomid NEVER worked for me!). Missed carried the first baby at 6.5 weeks and didn't even realize that there was another baby... until the 8th week when I was rushed to the hospital for an emergency laproscopy.. my right tube had ruptured. The fertility specialist screwed up since they were still monitoring me and couldn't figure out why my levels were still high...

But that was 3.5yrs ago ... I was introduced to my current fertility specialist who I completed trust! She and her husband have a private clinic in Manhattan and she's a professor at NYU so is up-to-date on the latest medications and treatments available! We tried Clomid again... it didn't work so we tried IVF cycle and no luck. There is no explanation as to why it didn't work except that my ovaries were overstimulated and may have rejected the embryos.

That brings me to where I am now... after 2yrs of not taking any medications except for 750mg Metformin daily, prenatal pills, losing 20lbs on Weight Watchers (so now 110lbs) and going to acupuncture 2x a week and no luck trying on our own... we focused on moving out of Manhattan for the suburbans which is so relaxing and fun decorating. We're now settled and focused on trying again!

Met with the doctor on June 5th, put on Provera for 10 days, started 2.5mg/day Femara on Day 1 (yesterday!) ... still taking 750mg Metformin, prenatals and watching my diet and exercise. Will stay on Femara until Day 7 then going in for a dr visit; starting Climara patch on Day 8 then we'll take it from there. Praying that we have some positive results with Femara!! Stay Positive!!!!
I am on my third month of Femara ~ I am thinking about using Femara with IUI this time to possibly improve the chances of pregnancy. Do you suggest that I do the two together?? THose that have gotten pregnant the first month using Femara, did you also do IUI??
I got pregnant with my first child when I was 22 with no problems. My husband and I decided that when she was around four that we would start trying for another child. I stopped taking my bc pills in Aug06 to have only one mc and then missing the next two. I went to see my OB b/c I had recently been diagnosed with PCOS. I am not overweight and do not meet some of the classic symptoms for PCOS. I also have a tilted uteris which can lead to some difficulty getting pregnant. Started provera to get the mc going. Then I would have a mc then not have one. Feb07 I started the Femara 2.5mgx2 3-7. Then I would go to do a progesterone check on cd20. The first few cycles I didn't ovulate but then my levels started to rise. I have never had luck with the ovulation kits so I strictly went by my progesterone results. Several months later I did the HSG to check my tubes--all clear. My husband was checked--olympian swimmers. During this time six people pregnant I knew--tough times. During this whole ordeal I had gall bladder surgery & the OB went in to look & found stage 2 enodmetreosis.
I had been on the Femara for 1 1/2 years when in Mar08 I found out that I was pregnant. Went back two days later to check my HCG levels & they were dropping & I miscarried.
So here we are three months later did my Femara cd3-7, now on day 13. Being optimistic---got a good feeling about this time around. I have come to terms with the fact that I might not ever have another child. I am truly okay with that knowing that I have one wonderful blessing in my life. Good luck to everyone...I know your struggles.
Good news is that Femara seemed to get my ovaries working...
the not so great news is that I've ovulated on my right side where the tube had ruptured a few years back.

I'm not discouraged since Clomid/GonalF never worked in the first time around so I'm still optimistic that Femara will continue to work... so in two weeks I'll get a period and hope we'll be ready for left side ovulation / IUI. If not, I've already discussed the IVF schedule with my doctor so feel mentally prepared this time around! Acupuncture is helping manage my stress levels! Lost 5lbs are recommended by the doctor and trying to deal with 750mg Metformin to help improve my health...

One comment that I'd like to make is that Femara's side effects were pretty strong... dizziness, major migraines and hot flashes. Didn't call the doctor until the last day so could've managed the migraines with Tynelol PM even though the packaging suggests that you don't take anything.

Does anyone know how if there is a maximum number of months you can use Femara?
I tired almost everything including injections and pills but one round of femara and I got pregnant! It is a miracle pill for those who have problems!!!
I have PCOS. I did a couple of rounds of clomid and progesterone and while progesterone worked, clomid didn't. My fertility specialist put me on femara. I will finish that today. He also has me on glucophage for my PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrom).

For those that don't know about PCOS: it raises your insulin levels and makes you insulin resistant. Which causes you to gain weight and not be able to lose it and causes you to not ovulate. All you eggs hang out in your ovaries because your brain is not able to communicate with your ovaries because your insulin levels are out of wack.

I was excited to hear about glucophage. He said just glucophage could get me ovulating, but to speed things up I am also doing femara. Glucophage is also suppose to prevent miscarriage- my insulin levels stay normal, my hormones stay normal.
me and my husband had been trying to have a baby going on two and a half years. my doctor put me on femara because i was not ovulating. i took one month of it and got pregnant that month. so it works. although i miscarried at 11 weeks. but the doctor said that is was nothing to do with the medication. i just had my d&c. so as soon as we can we will start trying again. but i have faith in god that he will give us a baby! ;-)
My husband and I have been trying to get pregnant now for 14 months. Last October I had a false positive pregnancy test. That was a very emotional time. Since March I have been on clomid and never got pregnant. I started Femara for the first time this cycle and I am late for my period. I have had no symptoms that I'm going to start. I have been a little nauseated for the last 3 days but I'm not sure if it's my nerves. I am so anxious and scared to take another pregnancy test because I'm afraid of the disappointment. I have decided to take it tomorrow morning. Please pray and cross your fingers.
It's great to hear the positive comments about Femara!
I was thrilled when the doctor confirmed that Femara did make me ovulate in the first month!!! This was a blessing considering the failed cycles of Clomid and Gonal F!

Today I start using Femara for round 2... praying to ovulate from the left ovary where I still have my tube. Staying positive that we're making progress!!! Good luck everyone!!!
I was diagnosed with a luteal phase defect, my cycles typically lasted only 21 days. I did one round of Clomid 50mg and got pregnant with my DD. We've now been trying for little over a year for #2. I did 6 cycles of Clomid with no luck. I've done one round of Femara 2.5mg and I'm on CD 31. I never got a positive on my OPK and took a pregnancy test today that was negative. I've read a lot of women also get the trigger shot with this. Anyone have luck with just the drug alone? And do I need to bump up to 5mg to actually ovulate?
For 2nd cycle on Femara, my doctor reduced my dose to 2.5mg from 5mg the previous month (to help reduce the side effects). Went in for ultrasound on Monday with positive signs that there was activity from the left ovary. Had scheduled a followup today and the follicle did not change in size at all. Dr is not sure if I've already ovulated so waiting for blood results to come back. So, either the dosage was too low OR the fact that I took Valium and several injections to address a root canal gone bad from 3mos ago. Very bad timing for all of this to occur now.

This second cycle may not have been a success but I'm still hopeful that the next cycle will be better.

To answer the previous question, my doctor always gives me the trigger shot to ovulate and then one week later to help keep the levels where they should be. Good luck
I start Femara 2.5 mg tomorrow, Cycle days 3-6. I also have an ultrasound scheduled for August 4th. I guess my question is when should I guess to be ovulating? My hubby is scheduled for a sperm analysis on Aug 5th and I don't want him to go if we should be doing the dead then. Because we can't do anything 2 to 3 days before his analysis. I am temping this month and plan on doing OPK's. All of this is so confusing... I wish nothing but the best for you ladies TTC. Lots of baby dust your way!
From prior experience, you do not ovulate until a day or two after last dose of Femara. Generally, when you go in for your ultrasound your doctor will determine if you're ready for the trigger shot. If so, then you'll be ready to ovulate within 24-48hrs. Sounds like your timing should be OK. Surprised that your husband wasn't analyzed prior to starting your treatment. My doctor had performed all types of tests prior to providing a recommendation on treatment for us.

After going for an ultrasound on Thursday and again this Monday, the follicles on left side are no longer there but based on blood test results I have yet to ovulate. Very bizarre cycle this month. My dental issues seem to have had a negative effect. So now I'm left to deal with the root canal pain and hoping to start IVF cycle in September!
