I am desperately trying to find successful stories of post op tonsilectormy patients who lost their sense of taste after surgery, but has since returned. I notice that people will/have posted blogs up to 3 mos (in one case up to 6 mos) post op, but then they no longer post regarding their progress. I am hoping this is a sign that their sense of taste has returned. Does such a person exist out there??

Thank you so much for replying! My surgery date was May 27th, 2009. To this day, I still cannot taste things fully. I can definitely taste salt (really salty), but no sugar, no chocolate! My mouth waters when I smell fastey food, but when I put it in my mouth, I don't savior it. I cannot imagine life without fully savioring food just because I had my tonsils removed for sleep apnea. :'(

Well, I think that the frame is anywhere from three to six months if you cannot taste things just yet. Have you talked to a physician about it? It might be worthwhile. Let me know what you think!
I have seen my Dr. several times and unfortunately there is nothing he can do or prescribe to me. It doesn't help that in all his years in practice he's never had a patient lose their sense of taste after a tonsilectomy and claims that if it does happen, it'so rare. I find tha odd since you can see all over the internet people posting their grievvances about their loss of taste. It's unfortunate. And all you really can do is wait and be patient is what I am hearing. I just want to find someone who has lost their sense of taste and finally got it back after 3+ mos. I have found many posts were people say they get it after a month, but haven't read any where one has lost their taste for as long as I have, and has finally had it return. Is that person out there?? :'(
Just curious, did you have tonsilectomy and your taste subesequently returned?
