Hi, I am very worried about myself. Lately there have been some changes appearing in my mental life. It all began when I hit the menopause. But now it got worse. I started having really dark thoughts. I am aware that this is not normal, since none of my friends has experienced this problem. I am so depressed. What should I do to get rid of these dark thoughts?
Hi, I am sure you are aware that the menopause is a very stressful experience for your entire body. The changes in the levels of hormones affect you not only physically but mentally as well. And even though your friends dont have the same problem that you do, it doesnt mean that depression is not usual in menopause. In fact, it is very common. I am sure that many of your friends have felt in some point during the menopause, but not intensely as you. Since you are having hard time dealing with your depression and dark thoughts I would advise you to talk to a professional therapist. There isnt anyone else who could better help you deal with this problem. Also a psychiatrist will be able to prescribe you with the right therapy if it is necessary. Menopausal depression is not something you should try to solve on your own. Especially since you are suffering from a very serious depression.

Hi, I also have had some very bad thoughts because of menopausal depression. It especially doesn't help when you have doctors not taking you seriously about the thoughts. Luckily I found a doctor who has been an OBGYN for thirty years and he told me that these thoughts are typical. He recommended, after doing an ultrasound of my uterus that I have a partial hysterectomy. I have fibroid cyst that are causing problems, and they will return over and over again. I also turned to God again, I trust him to deliver me from all of this. I am on an Zoloft and Ativan to help as well.
