So has anyone come up with a prognosis? I too am experiencing this fluttering of the heart that causes me to cough. Not a lot of coughing. Just a couple of coughs to clear my heart if that makes sense.

What you describe is a classic picture of a very common, very normal (yet often also very aggravating) phenomenon known as premature ventricular contractions (PVCs) or premature atrial contractions (PACs). These occur in almost everyone from time to time, but some of us feel every one while others are totally unaware they are happening. What takes place is this: a tiny area in the upper or lower chambers of the heart becomes momentarily irritable and triggers a heartbeat in advance of the next regular one. The heart, wanting to keep everything in order, pauses for a split second in order for the next regular (sinus) beat to occur. The early beat usually causes the flutter sensation and a sort of "void" sensation that some describe as taking ones breath away for a second. This usually is because the premature beat has occurred when the pulmonary valve of the heart is closed, which makes the early beat more noticeable and provokes the feeling of a need to cough. It is all very simple, and takes place in less than a second, but depending on what part of the heart's cycle it occurs in, it can seem like a rather dramatic and weird sensation.

I am a 51-year-old white male. At times I have a fluttering in my upper chest with the urge just to cough I could be sitting or lying down when this occurs. But I do believe mine is all related to stress

Hi not sure what is, but that happens to me , like your heart is going to up up through you mouth and yes it makes you cough. I think it's stress too...only happens now and then..

I have atrial flutters due to a paralyzed vagus nerve which also control the peristalsis (pumping) of my stomach. I have what's called gastroparesis, my stomach is paralyzed. The vagus nerve Is a cranial nerve which travels from the brain to the heart and stomach and sends the signal to the muscle to contract. I've had it my whole life but never felt the flutters until 2 years ago.

I been having this symptoms since young age, but many tests EKG, Echo EKG and stress test and nothing comes to the cardiologist to be wrong with me, hart beats are sometimes too fast or simply does not beat and make me cough, I can be laid down or sited. I just went yesterday 08/30/2017 because I felt so bad that I can hardly walk but nothing came from the exams, I am desperate lately. I do not have high blood pressure nor diabetes overall my health is very good. If someone can post help to this symptoms that could be very helpful.

I have had palpitations/ectopic beats/skipped beats for at least the past 25 years. I have always been led to believe that they are a normal everyday occurrence in the majority of people and are completely harmless.
I find that I often can't lie down on my left side, as in that position I have almost constant skipped beats and I cough on each one. If I turn over to the right side, I don't feel them.

I'm having the same issues. A lot of what I'm reading is saying it could be stressed or anxiety related, but its just so hard for me to believe that. It feels more significant than any other physical effects I've noticed from stress before. My started on a Saturday morning when I was perfectly content. I have a lot of stress during the work week, but it wasn't an issue at the time. I guess if it is just stress, that's the best option considering the alternatives, but that just doesn't seem like a satisfying answer.

I've had them since I was about 23. Back then when I had palpitations my chin and left shoulder/arm would hurt simultaneously. I would also get the thump and a need to cough along with a skipping and racing heart beat. I never went to a doctor for it until recently-- over 10 years later. Nothing unusual showed on the ECG (no surprise there)and the doctor dismissed me.
I've since noticed that the irregular beats seem to come full force a week before menstruating and they come more often after I've eaten. And every so often I get a feeling of euphoria while standing during an episode. One time I checked my blood pressure during a euphoric episode and it was 90/60. I was also nauseated and fatigued. I wish now I had gone to urgent care but it quickly climbed back to normal after sitting still.

I found my blood pressure is low while having them too & they occur a lot of times after eating. My doctor said to track what I eat but I've found it doesn't matter. I can have the exact same meal & have them after one, but not the other.
I have been writing down the dates I have them for over a year now & found I have them on similar dates from the previous year. I actually went 3 months without having any. I thought they finally went away but no such luck.

I hope everyone here found help. Palpitations I have it is either a fib flutter or PVCs. The pressure sensation and need to cough is from the compensatory pause after the early beat. The cough I think is your body trying to adjust and put you back into a normal rhythm

That happened to me as well but it ended up not being a heart issue, it was pulmonary I had a embolism in my lungs... The pressure makes it feel like your heart... Sometimes u gotta ask for both to be checked...
