I have had the same symptoms for approx 2 months and then decided to go to the doctor. I was put on a heart monitor and was diagnosed with PVC's(Premature Ventricular Contractions). I was put on a very low dose of high blood pressure medicine(my blood pressure was 120/70 before the medicine) and i was concerned it would drop my blood pressure and create other issues. But, because i was so stressed about the palpitations i took it. I then started yoga, and meditation to calm me down. I cut out my allergy medicine. Went on a low sodium diet and cut out all caffeine. So, i'm not sure what actually worked to eliminate the PVC's but they stopped after about 1 month. I then cut out the heart medicine. Then, i was good for about a year. Forgetting about the palps I started getting into my old habits but drinking coffee with half the caffeine and eliminated my claritan and started using nose spray for my allergy's. Now that the holidays are here and my eating and beverage of choice habits are not good my heart palps are back. - very frustrated! P.S. It's scary...so now i'm back to eating oatmeal and watching my sodium intake with hopes it will just go away!

Hey Laura, how did it go? I am having the same exact problem right now. Also saw a physician who said it might also not be a problem, but the issues persist.

Bonie I am very confused by this. There is not test that says “you’re in cardiac arrest”. If she was in cardiac arrest it would be very obvious as she would have no pulse and not be conscious or breathing. She would be clinically dead. There is a blood test that tests your troponin levels and if they are positive that can be an indicator of myocardial infarction which is a heart attack. This test measures the myocardial tissue in the heart. However it can be positive for other reasons. If they sent her home it obviously wasn’t an acute situation and I wouldn’t worry. If she is deciding not to advocate for her health then unfortunately there is nothing you can do. Good luck.

This is so true! Im a 20 year old male. And ever since i decided to turn vegan 4 years ago i was fine. However this past year ive been experiencing really bad heart palpitations and heart flutters. My heart often skips a beat a few times a day. It lasts for a second and goes away but often when its back to back. I start to freak out getting dizzy fatigued faint heart beat. And in the verge of passing out. So i automatically run to the kitchen with any strength that i have left and have some fruit loops candy or something to bring my sugar up. It makes me feel much better. However i still feel tired dizzy and weak. So i take my vitamin b12 magnesium and my ashwaghanda. Cause my mom keeps telling me that i might have hypoglycemia since i was diagnosed with low iron when i was only 9. I got a AKG done by the doctor in urgent care. A cardiogram for my heart. And they said everything was fine.i did a couple of blood tests to check my red blood cell count and my glucose they said everything was fine except one of my specialis told me that i might have a blood vitamin b6 and b12 deficiency. So i was told to get blood extracted for my thyroid. So far i havent gotten the results yet. I also got a chest x-ray and a c-t scan and everything was fine. My specialist told me that most likely its my poor diet. So i just started eating chicken again slowly. She also said i could have no symptoms at all and it could just happen randomly even when im relaxed. It gets worse with stress and anxity. However i still have been experiencing weakness and a hard heart beat and the feeling of coughing. It extremely werid cause this has never happened to me before. So they referred me to a cardiologist and a endocronologist. Just in case if i have any valve issues or any thyroid imbalance so i could get medication for it. So far im doing okay but i still get daily heart skips and shortness of breath and mild tightness in my chest and its so worrying.

It's sad because EKG tells most they are good then days later (like my Grandpa) die of a heart attack. EKG's don't tell u if your arteries are clogged... Try an angiogram it saved my friend who had the same problems... I get it from my diabetes it sux!!!

I think the urge to cough is how our body can reset the electrical impulses which tell the heart valves to fire. You can also hold your breath and bear down in your chest to help reset the rhythm. Coughing feels like a quick and necessary fix.
I've had plenty of medical consults and tests, all of which say my heart is in great shape. But after many years of dealing with symptoms that scare me or make me feel weak for several days, I think dehydration and electrolyte imbalance are the major culprits for me. I don't think these are addressed enough when visiting a doctor -I am sure they want to rule out life threatening concerns like heart disease first. We know we don't drink enough water on a regular basis. Don't overlook this simple, free answer.
Also, stay clear of medical stimulants like epinephrine, which causes the heart to speed up. Be very careful with dental numbing agents and cold medications too, which often have stimulants in them. These make me crash.
Caffeine adds to these problems as well as alcohol and eating snacks after drinking alcohol. All of these further dehydration.

I hope that you have gone to the doctor. It sounds like the symptoms of CHF. I pray it isn't, but the symptoms match.

I also had arrhythmia after going off caffeine. I replaced my coffee and with an herbal tea. I finally realized the herbs in the tea were worse than caffeine. Watch your herbs and suppliments.

I have the same symptoms and have had various anti arrythmic drugs some made it worse though...i have kept an eye on my diet all caffiene gone, one thing i have noticed is if my blood sugar level drops, they get worse, this does not mean Hypo enough to pass out etc but lower than "my normal" i find it better if i eat a banana they seem to ease up. if i do have a few drinks one night it seems worse the next day is it the alcohol or unstable blood sugar? some have said that cough sweets help, again is this just sugar? not advising eating sweets all day...any one else that can confirm simalar?
