Hello fellow afflicted;

I've had this heart beat noise in my right ear for 10 years now. It started a few days after I had an angioplasty for a blocked artery. Two years into it I started having vertigo attacks which totally incapacitated me. I went to see an ENT, Neurologyst, Cardiologyst; had MRI, CT Scan, angiogram, tilt table test THE WORKS and ALL the doctors had different diagnosis to include Menier's, CAD, Tennitus, etc. None of them were right! 5 years ago I had a syncope attack and lost consciousness while ridding a bike; fell and broke 4 ribs and my right collar bone. After being in the hospital for 5 days and numerous tests it was determined that I suffered from BRADYCARDIA (low heart beat) which caused the syncope. I've had a pacemaker installed and now my vertigo and syncope are gone...sad to say the noise is not.

My theory is the same as someone already mentioned; I think an artery or vein has changed in a way that it is so close to my eardrum that I can feel the pulsations. I've had hearing tests done and have shown a 40% decrease in hearing. I KNOW in my heart that because of the noise my hearing has decreased. I know that if by some miracle the noise went away I would recover my hearing because in my opion the noise is interfering with the hearing. Some ENT told me that the noise was the product of hearing loss!

My advise is for you to visit a cardiologyst and have tests done to rule out Coronary Artery Desease (CAD) or some heart related illness. As far as the noise is concerned I think we will have to learn to live with it because by the tests we have all had, it is clear that the vein/artery is so small that it would be impossible to locate and repair. It would be a very complicated and delicate operation due to its location.

I have tried Yoga, meditation, breathing excercises to help me cope with the noise; sometimes it helps, sometimes it doesn't. I've also noticed that when I get a cold/flue the noise increases.

I am often frustrated and stressed by this noise; my tolerance is very low and I have really changed in my way of life. I don't like crowds, loud music, etc. All sound, noise, words, come in through my left ear so I often and quickly become saturated by all the noise. My right ear noise competes with my left ear inputs and it all drives me crazy!

If anyone hears about a breakthrough in this matter please let me know. In the meantime I guess I'll have to continue "sucking it up" for a while; I just hope it is not for another 10 years.

Good luck to all!

Look into the possibility that stress and anxiety could be causing some of these symptoms.

I too have this, i have a constant ringing in the ears (very annoying) and when i sit in a car for a period of time when i get out i have the pulsing sound in my ears i have also started noticing it at night when i turn over in bed , when i lay down on my belly and look up and when i reach for things on high shelves that cause me to tilt my head back, I have had Cat scans (nothing) X-rays (nothing) sinuses are clear and good. Went to a hearing specialist what a waste of money that was he tells me just dont sit in the quiet , i like quiet , well i use to anyway i hate that i have to have the tv loud just to block out the ringing. Waiting for ENT appointment so hopefully they will find something> How ever i have noticed that after a massage or bowen therapy the pulsing lessens so maybe you guys could try this if you get bowen ask the therapist to clear your sinuses.

thankyou for your info. it has helped me so much. i have been struggling for over three years not sleeping because of the horribly loud noise in my ear. one ent thought i had a brain tumour, after a five thousand dollar mri and no tumour i went to another ent he thought tinitus i knew it was not that i had done too much reading. in desperation i found this site and did what you told me about pressure below the ear lobe. it made the noise go away. i am going to go to a maxiofacial dentist as soon as possible. once i apply pressure for about 90 seconds below the ear lobe i am able to sleep through the nite. you have no idea the things i have tried to sleep and figure out what the problem was. i am so appreciative that you took the time to send this info out into the net. i have a spring in my step, and just can't thankyou

For all of those experiencing specific sided (right versus left) ear distortion or ringing, I'm curious how many of you might use (or used to use) a bluetooth ear phone in that ear.  I had one brand that in an earlier version of it, it notified the user that the battery was running low by a repeated beep.  The problem was that the volume of that beep was directly connected to the bluetooth's volume control but much louder.  At full talk/listen volume, the low battery warning was piercing and caused damage to my right ear.  It is mostly noticeable as more of an off and on hum or a pulse or intermittent vibration-like hum.  Unfortunately, the human voice is now perceived with distortion and is almost unintelligible with background room noise (like in a restaurant) or if listening through any type of phone to the right ear (sounds like what you hear when they distort a witnesses voice that wants to remain unrecognizable on a news broadcast).  Has anyone else had such an issue or similar but unrelated to a bluetooth earpiece?

I had the same problem for almost two years and it was driving me insane. I know what your going through, but there is a fix. I finally went to a doctor. He put a tube in my ear and said it would clear in a month. Well it took about five months, but it worked. Good luck to all of you. Hope this information helps.
