I'm a female, early twenties, and I've been experiencing some strange symptoms w/in the last few months. I was wondering if there might be some possible common explanation. Early last September, I began experiencing periodic episodes on gross hematuria (always accompanied by severe back pain), usually around 5 o'clock in the morning. These episodes would last about 2 hours, and occurred about 2-3 times a week until late November. These episodes never coincided with my period, and left me so exhausted that I often couldn't get out of bed for several hours afterward. I was given antibiotics for a possible UTI and an X-ray and CT scan, all of which proved unhelpful. I've seen 3 doctors for this - my PCP, a urologist, and a nephrologist - but none have been able to offer any solutions. All my bloodwork and urinalysis results came back normal 3 separate times.
I haven't had an episode like this since November, but around January I noticed that my periods had become somewhat irregular, even though I hadn't changed my diet or exercise routine. Around the same time, I began experiencing diffuse muscle spasms, not painful, but bizarre, nonetheless. This started happening at night before I went to sleep, but eventually began to occur throughout the day, and in odd places (inside my ear, for instance). I do not have an electrolyte imbalance, and I am not potassium deficient.
Within the last few weeks, an ENT I was seeing for lingering TMJ pointed out that I have a rather large thyroid nodule. (I'm still waiting for those test results to come back.) I've also noticed odd rumbling/cramping in my lower abdominal region, which generally leaves me feeling slightly nauseous, periodic blood in my stool, and painfully swollen lymph nodes under my right arm. I've had two colds since then which eventually turned into sinusitis (both times), and both times I was laid up in bed for more than a week. I'm usually able to function when I'm ill (the last time I was stuck in bed for that long I was in high school and had strep throat and bronchitis).
Is there any possible common explanation? Or is my body just completely haywire? I feel like my doctor will think I'm a hypochondriac if I keep going to him with silly problems, but I'm worried that there might be something seriously wrong with me.
I don't want to jump to absurd conclusions, but I've been seeing so many doctors lately that I've had to take a break from school. The last several months have seemed like a complete nightmare! (And I'm not a hypochondriac, I swear - I had a psychiatric evaluation to rule out any psychosomatic causes.)
Please, any advice or thoughts would be GREATLY appreciated! Thank you so much.
