Hi Coast, I agree, so far it has helped me, and am being very cautious with it, there is always a price if you abuse something! Glad you found it was helpful. Stay strong!

Hi, I'm a 33 year old man, been on oxycodone for close to 2 years, completely UN-prescribed I buy off the street, lately I've gotten up to 200 mg a day. Got down to 120mg yesterday & am trying to go to 60 or 80 today. Im married with 2 kids & absolutely have to do this alone. I guess thats why I'm reaching out here for advice, what do you guys think, suggestions? I appreciate anyone's advice, I'm in the process of ruining my life, got 2 young kids I cant let down, I'm in tears as I type that. Please any help to get this done, thank u!

JD, it will be bad, prepare yourself for that, but at 33 years old and only a two year habit, it won't be THAT bad. I learned a lot from coming off of 15 years of methadone...plus four years of heroin besides that. The first mistake I made was not being healthy enough when I detoxed. I was way too skinny already & the weight dropped off FAST when I left the clinic. Also, you need a doctors help. Something for sleep & anxiety is quite nessecary. Restless legs at night was one of the worst things, at first, so get a hotpack that you can kinda wrap around your legs. You're gonna get depressed. I got extremely suicidal, much more than I let on. Have a strong support system. Someone you can talk to, if possible. Take some time off of work. You say you were in tears while typing. I was in tears for three weeks straight. I had no choice but to hide myself away. I could'nt let anyone see me at 88 pounds & CONSTANTLY crying. Check out the link I left somewhere above you regarding nutritional therapy. One last thing... DON'T get on methadone!! I can't stress this point enough. If you ever decide to get off, you'll be sick for wayyyy longer than you would be if you just kicked the oxycodone now. If you have any other concerns, post them. Since taking my last dose of 5mgs on March 12th & going through hell for nearly 3 months ( I still can't sleep without klonopin, OTC sleep aids & lots of pot) I kinda consider myself an expert on the subject. (yay?)
Good luck to you, hun. If you go to the beginning of this thread & read as much as you can, you'll learn a lot, But ignore the rapid detox advice. I know someone who tried that & it did not work out well at all.

When you get ready to stop altogether, you are going to have the "flu" for several days, anyone seeing you will believe it, as you are going to look like s&!t.

Get fruit juice, fruit, cough medicine for the "flu" symptoms, along with over the counter pain meds.

Get something to help with sleep, ambien if you can.

Go to a local smoke shop and BUY some Kratom caps. (this is a natrual herb that will help you with the Withdrawals.)

The first 24-48 hours are the hardest.

After 24 hours goes by with no opiate in your system, and you are in full blown WD, take a Kratom cap, it will stop the WD in its tracks. You will still be sick, but a LOT of the pain will stop and this will make it bearable to do on your own. The kratom will last any where from 4 to 7 hours before you will want to take another one. It is important to space out the dosing of these so you do not build up a tolerance.

You can do this on your own, I have twice now, it sucks but can be done.

Good luck and let us know how it goes!

Thanks georgia & baby. Georgia, what was your use like when you stopped? How long did the process take? Xanax puts me to sleep, but is it something I should avoid? Thanks again

benzos help a lot. I would'nt avoid xanax, if I were you, at least for the time being. In fact, mixing benzos was the biggest help to me. It helped to stop that "OMG... I'm gonna have a heart attack" feeling (I was convinced that I was going to die for the first month) and when I had xanax and klonopin I actually slept almost as well as before. But... that's just my opinion. I'm sure plenty of people would disagree with me.

I was sick for a good 6 days, I started on a Wed so I would have the weekend to recover. (by Friday I was a shaking wreck) You will be physically sick, lots of shaking, sweats, you feel really cold (which can last for a long time, well past the other stuff), you have the runs, and everything hurts. You will be very sensitive to pain, as your body is trying to regulate itself again, so everything can be blown out of proportion. I also had restless leg/body syndrome (RLS) I could not lie still and did not get any real sleep until a day 4.
That was the physical stuff, the mental side of it can go a lot longer, I went into PAWS, which lasted a good 3 weeks, and still have some issues (but the kratom also helps with depression) but I am coping fairly well now. You need to be aware that you will have mood swings, anxiety, and possible depression. It does not hurt to tell a doctor what you are going thru, even if it is a new one that you have not seen before, they can help with some of the symptoms, but I would avoid any of the miracle drugs to fix your dependency, as they can be just as bad, if not worse, than the stuff you are stopping. If you are going to use the kratom to help, be aware that you should read up on it, (some good links earlier in this thread) and use it only to help with the WD. Remember you can do it, people do this on their own all the time. Getting off the pills is hard, but staying off is the real challenge, you really need to answer why this happened to you (the addiction side), so you can hopefully stay off for good!
Peace

Hey Georgia. I'm doing better. Finnaly. I'm still really cold & not sleeping well, but in the last few days I've started to feel like I'm coming out of this... but I'm still really jealous when my boyfriend goes to the clinic every morning, but on the other hand he seems jealous of me. heh. I think watching me scared him out of trying to detox, tho. Thanks for asking, BTW.
It would seem you're doing okay? I hope so. We all seem like really decent people that don't deserve all this pain. Please do keep us updated on how you're doing. Maybe it sounds silly, but I kinda feel like I bonded with you guys while we were going through this and I wanna know when you really feel like you're on the other side! PAWS can't last forever, right??

Hey baby,
I agree, I think sharing our pain has definitely made us kindred spirits! I still fink u freeky ;-) Yeah I am doing better, just still having flashes back every now and then, but over all doing better. I hear you on the cold feeling, this being cold all the time sh*t is getting really old, Thank god it is summertime!
Yeah everybody( doctors and recovering addicts, know a lot of the latter) I have asked about PAWS says it ends, just that it can take awhile for some, and you can have these flash backs in and out for some time.
Hopefully your boy friend can stop too once you get better, I know seeing someone around you who is still using makes it all the harder. You stay strong, find your outlets and don't keep stuff bottled up inside, whether it is music, art, books or juggling cats, let it out!

just reread this, I was on Rx meds on and off for 10 years, steady daily usage of Lortab 10. (about 5-7 a day) for 3 years and then dilaudid 8 mg (about 3 a day) for a couple of months.

haha...thanks for making me laugh:-D  I fink u freeky too. That's totally a compliment!! About the PAWS, I've read that they can last for up to 15 months. I hope to be back soon to inform everyone that even an a lifetime user (except my first 13 years) will get better sooner than that!

Have a great & hopefully warm day, my dear.

ok, had to share this, even for those who are not very patriotic this is a very touching story. One of the biggest stand outs for me on this story is this; 11 felonies and addicted to crack, then goes on to clean up and become a Navy Seal..Adam Brown. Blind in his right eye, missing fingers on his right hand, then relearns to shoot with his left hand and eye....wow, now this is a person who did not believe in failure!
