Hi! I got my first period a few days ago, but I still haven't told my mom. I'm scared my brothers will hear. How do I talk to her privately?

Hi!

It's perfectly normal to feel nervous about discussing your first period with your mom, especially if you're concerned about keeping the conversation private from your brothers. A good approach is to find a moment when you and your mom have some privacy, such as when your brothers are out or during a quiet evening. You can gently let your mom know that you need to talk about something important and ask for a private moment.

If you find it difficult to initiate the conversation verbally, consider writing a note to your mom explaining that you started your period and would like to talk to her about it. Leave the note in a place where she'll find it, like her purse or on her pillow.

When you do have the conversation, it's okay to express that you're feeling nervous or embarrassed. Most mothers understand these feelings and can provide support and guidance. Don’t forget to mention if you need menstrual supplies like pads or tampons. Remember, getting your first period is a natural part of growing up, and your mom, having experienced this herself, can be a great source of comfort and information.

If you need any more help, feel free to ask.
