How the "H" "E" "Double Hockey Sticks" do you pull a muscle in your back while running. I seem to have done that this morning and it is now nice and painful when bending in certain normal every day ways.

:argh:
where does it hurt? And does it hurt all the time or only when doing certain movements?

you could have easily pulled it before you ran, without knowing it. backs are funny that way.

It hurts on my right side just back around from my side. The pain is about where if you put your right hand on your hip and slid it up a few inches and back towards my spine about 2 inches you would be on top of it.
It only hurts when I do twist or move my body in certain directions.

Head to and select the muscle map under the Kinesiology link. The images are hotspot-ed and you can pick the muscle that is giving you grief. From that you can get exercises related to that muscle.
If yours is the serratus anterior, let me know. Mine's killing me.

Any chance it could be the start of a kidney stone or infection? That happened to a friend of mine. He thought it was a muscle pull and went to the chiro. and massage therapist and it turns out it he had a kidney infection. He had no other symptoms except a sore back.

from what you described (if it is a muscle pull) It could be one of many. It could be your iliospoas, your erector spinea, even your soleus can refer pain to that area.
If it is your serratus anterior, I would think it would cause you more pain on your side or possibly near the spine but just under the shoulder blade.
