I’m deciding on what sports activity to start training. I’m a senior and after I’ve had this cardiac arrest, my doctor advised me to change my sedentary way of life and to become more active. I’ve taken running, cycling and swimming into consideration, but I’ve never seriously practiced any of these sports. I think that swimming is perhaps the best for me. What are its health effects?

Swimming is a very healthy sport. I’d also recommend you swimming over cycling and running. This is maybe a bit rude but if you’re a senior and you haven’t been too active before, maybe running or cycling would be too much for you. Swimming is excellent for muscular and skeletal problems, not to mention its benefits when it comes to cardiac problems. Of course, you won’t be exercising strenuously but moderately. The only thing that can be a problem is a possible chlorine allergic reaction, so you’d better see whether you’re sensitive to it or not. I think that training three times a week will significantly improve the condition of your health.
