I wish this happened to someone else, not my brother but it is how it is and we all have to deal with it. What is the role of genetic factor in inducing schizophrenia? How much is it important. Are there any other causes that might make this problem? He is 24 years old now; will he ever be normal again?
I wish I could tell you that his problem will be gone in the matter of days, but it’s not simple like that. The meds will subdue the symptoms, and that should happen after one to two weeks (in the case when medications work). If that does not happen some other meds have to be tried and the side effects of those are not mild at all. As for genetics, a high level of heritability has been suggested to exist but it is not firmly confirmed.
