Hey guys; interesting topic. I also took 3 or 4 boxes of Benadryl as a suicidal gesture ( I was having intense emotions and just did it absent-mindedly ). I experienced what sounded like hundreds of voices talking at once and was totally zoned out. I didn't get my stomach pumped, so I still wonder 10 years later what effect all that Benadryl had on me. Apparently my life was never in danger.
Well there are already some good stories on here, lol. I had some diphenhydramine sleeping pills (50mg diphenhydramine) that I was taking durring school. I got down about 12 of them through-out the day and nothing bad happend to me. From my research diphenhydramine is alot like valium, its hard to overdose on and even when you've consumed enough to take down an elephant the overdose is pretty mild.
I learn about Benadryl in the most painful way. My 20-year old son died of an overdose of Benadryl which he took to deal with insomnia caused by an anti-depressant. The tragedy is that the psychiatrist informed me afterwards that he didn't think my son was depressed but presribed it to boost his functioning. I will carry my regret to my last day.
I am on a slew of medications and have been using diphen on top of that to get sleep due to insomnia caused by severe chronic pain for over 4 years. My usual dose is around 10 25mg pills every 2 hours from dusk til dawn. I also tried to use it as a way to numb myself so I don't have to experience the pain. I have Fibromyalgia, myositis, anklyosing spondylitis, rheumatoid arthritis, TMJ, vasculitis and severe cluster headaches and migraines. I am 22 about 250 5'9" (mostly water weight from use of narcotic analgesics and prednisone). My medications include steroids, SSRI's, prevacid, leflunomide, simponi, amrix, xanax, methadone (200mg a day), lyrica, topamax and cymbalta. About a month ago I went blind in my garage, passed out, hit the back of my head on a ceramic counter and fell on concrete after that. My mom found me in a pool of blood or I would of probably died. When I went to the hospital they said my blood pressure and pulse were consistently high 240/180 and a resting pulse of 130. They put me on metoporol and my blood pressure is still out of control. To answer your question I think that there are many factors that come into play - from weight to natural body response to other medications you may be on, but no way is 100mg going to kill you.

then ER arrived and took me to the Hospital. i lost consciousness on and off
had no connection to my body, fellt totally lost, dry mouth couldnt figure out what i was asked
then after answering i couldnt see the person, and i didnt even know if i heard a question at all
i had some hallucinations and i felt i was not able to move an arm or let
i got so scared, and i was frightened i would die. i ve never experienced anything like this in my life
the hospital nurse said benadryl cannot harm you. so is this true ? and if not, how come such educated personnel is
able to make a statement like this?

so if took 20 bottles of nytol (20 pills each bottle) (50mg) or unisom (50mg), what would happen?
I am in terminal pain, and was told that if I took 240 pills of nytol, unisom, or benadryl, as long as they are 50 mg, that woud be enough to be fatal.

I take Diphenhyrdamine HCL nightly. it is one of the most safest drugs on the market. i have been taking it nightly for a year, and i'm exceeding 16 25mg tablets a night, that is my starting dose. thats 400mg. ive been told that 250-300mg was a lethal dose. naturally i am highly tolerate of medications and need to take more than the prescribed dosage, but being 150mg higher than the lethal dose seems as if that estimate was a mere guess. now i will tell you i get normal side effects, drowsyness, dry mouth, and groggy in the morning. there are other side effects that have been forementioned that i do experience. sometime when i start thinking of something i lose my train of thought and its hard for me to remember what i was thinking. sometimes i feel i am not breathing since i am so relaxed when i think if i am breathing i get a slight panic attack. also i get weird sensations in my fingers if they aren't moving. other than that i have no negative effects (liver damage, tachycardia, bradycardia, hyertension, hypotension, or anything like that). but as far as you taking 100mg in a single dose you are in the clear.
If a psychiatrist actually knew about dosages of medicines they prescribe, that would be a first for me.

For 5 yrs Ive taken nytols nightly 50mgDH per tablet, obviously immune so slowed went up. I taken 4, over ride it, then 4 again, over ride it, then 4 and either sleep or have massive panic attack (so 12 x 50mg per night). Be careful as it can cause anxiety/panic. I now have it full time and it hell. Tried other stuff at doctors, but I don't get the snoozy feeling so they don't work. asked for more helped but none. attacks are so bad I can't sleep without out them. Also if I run out after 2-3 nights I go crazy depressed. End up at the hospital. DO NOT TAKE MORE THAN ONCE. EVERYONE IS DIFFERENT TOO. YOU CANT GO BY OTHER PEOPLE. Used to love them the first 2 years, no problems 3 per night.
god someone the same as me, looked for 2 years. Not breathing thing freaks me out, started my severe panic attacks but still take it. nightmare. I wrote the note "5 years". I have numb hands with pins and needles 24/7, sounds like you might get a big panic attack soon. Happened after 2 years to me, hell now 24/7. Ambulance out, thought I was dying. :o

you would be wasting money as that is a crazy amount. you'd need loads less to die
