How do you give hints to a TEENAGE GUY who DOESN'T GO TO YOUR SCHOOL that you like him? Especially if you play sports with him? Hints? Very BIG hints other than just saying, "Hey ___, I like you"
Best thing to do is not drop hints. Us guys, especially teenage ones are clueless to hints that women drop when it comes to that. Your best bet would tell him directly or have a friend tell him and pretend like you had no idea she told him when he confronts you about it. When he does confront you acknowledge that you do like him.

Walk up to him and say "Hi _____ Can I talk to you? I was wondering if you'd like to do something together sometime." He'll catch the hint that you like him from that :)
