I lost my virginity last night. It hurt extremely bad. It was excruciating in fact. It brought me to tears and he had to pull out just to console me. So be ready for pain, but do your research and you can definitely alleviate some of that. And, my advice, never have sex with a guy that won't go down on you. You cannot easily make sure you bleed first night because not all women bleed on first sex. It can depend on how tough your hymen is, its 'shape', and the size of his penis. Inserting a finger as well as, and at the same time as, his penis might help.

A show of blood can sometimes be made to appear by prior insertion of a dried blood-soaked piece of cloth.

You can check the state of your hymen by looking at it using a hand mirror. Do you know what you are looking for?
