Hello everyone, I have hyperglycemia after waking up in the morning. I'm not sure how to manage that. It seems like you would have low blood sugar levels in the norming because you haven't eaten anything all night. But, maybe that's not right. Do a lot of diabetics have this problem or is it just me? How many of you out there have experienced this? What did you do about it? I'm still new to being diabetic and it is still confusing to me about how this works. I haven't been to college and haven't studied anything about biology or medicine so some of the literature I read is a bit over my head. Can anyone explain this to me? Anything information would be extremely helpful.

Hi, I had the same problem a few years back and I had trouble understanding it as well. All the stuff about the pancreas and insulin, not making enough insulin and insulin resistance. That went over my head as well. However, little by little I began to understand. I left a number of questions on several forums and everyone was really helpful. It's nice to know we have a community of people out there that can help us. I'm to understand that our bodies are fasting when we are sleeping. Because of that the liver releases sugar into our blood streams to support us through the night. That's a good thing except if you're not making enough insulin or you have insulin resistance. All the glucose is not broken down when you're sleeping so this creates higher than normal blood sugar levels. I'm not really sure how you get rid of this altogether. I know there were times that I ate something before I went to bed and that seemed to help. I made sure I had some protein and healthy fats mixed with small amounts of sugar. This seemed to be important if I particularly had an active day. I generally do a lot of walking as a form of exercise as was suggested by my doctor. Anyway, my sugar levels seem to be lower in the morning when I did hat. I hope that helps.
