Hi I am a 21 yr old female, lately I get dizzy a lot, and I faint - or get brought to my knees due to being lightheaded.
It starts with a warm feeling, then I get dizzy, nasua and there after I land on the floor. I usually have problems with low blood pressure - but the last time I (almost) fainted we tested my blood pressure and it was a bit low - but not to such an extent were it can cause me to faint.
I am overweight 90 kg's / 1.68m
but I eat healthily, and I am constantly on my feet - so do have sufficient movement.
I am a mother of a todler
have a medical history of ovarian sists
and not pregnant due to the fact that I just had my cycle
Any advice please on what might be wrong?

Hi Jr,
How long have you had this?
What was your blood pressure? Have you ever had your blood sugar checked? Any unexplained loss of consciousness is a cause for concern. You should see your doctor to identify the cause.
In addition to what can happen to you, what could happen to your child if you were lost consciousness while driving or cooking dinner and a fire resulted?
See your doctor, now.

It started happenning about three weeks ago. some days it happens up to three times, and other days not at all.
oky well tested my blood sugar with one of those home thingy's that diabetics use and it was 2.7?? (don't really know how the reading works)
my blood pressure reding was 104/75. (it's ussually like this)
And I don't faint every time - so that is why till this point I didn't really take it serious.
And will make an appointment with GP for either next week, or the week there after.

Hi Jr,
Your blood pressure is low but not abnormally low.
I take it you're in the UK. The blood sugar reading (mmol/l) is very different than what we normally use in the US (mg/dl). From what I could find it should be about 4-7 mmol/l before meals, about 8 mmol/l at bedtime and 10 mmol/l after eating.
I did find the conversion for the 2.7 and it works out to a US 48.6 (makes it easier for me). This is EXTREMELY low and would account for your symptoms, we don't like to see below 70. Don't wait to make the appointment. You could lose consciousness and go into diabetic coma.
In the meantime, if you feel lightheaded or dizzy drink some orange juice. You can also pick glucose from your pharmacist.
Hope it helps.

Hey...
Oky a bit freaked out now - diabetic coma? aint that just like for diabetics? or can a normal (as in not a diabetic) get it as well?
So I might be at risk of being a diabetic?
Hopefully thi bit of info might change the outcome - I'm from SA (South Africa).
what should the count be at the time that I wake up? and how long after eating should i test my blood sugar?
I'll try and keep an eye on it.

JR,
Something is going on that your blood sugar is that low. Most diabetics are the opposite, they have high blood sugar, hyperglycemia. Yours is very low and i is called hypoglycemia. The diabetic coma is reversible, with glucose.
If it gets low, you pass out. You'd have symptoms beforehand, you may appear as if you are drunk with slurred speech. If it gets low enough you will pass out. Glucose taken orally can stop this if caught in time. The question is why is this now happening. Are you fasting or anything out of the ordinary?
As I said we use a different system in the US but what I could find indicates your blood sugar should be about 4-7 mmol/l before meals, about 8 mmol/l at bedtime and 10 mmol/l after eating.
It should be about a 3.8-4.0 in the morning. After breakfast it should rise up to near 10.0.
My intention is not to scare you but to let you know as to what might happen. You do need this checked - very soon.
Hope it helps.

Hey Dan,
Oky so now I at least have a bit more easonable explanation for what's going on.
The slurred speach as mentioned above happens only literally befor I get brought to my knees, but like you said it will appear as if I am drunk. This is the case - (when it's hectic).
No not fasting at all, nothing really out of the ordinary.
My day will go as follow (just an indication) {if it may help}
04h30 - 05h00 : get up, dress, and take a walk/jog
06h00 - shower and preparing for work
06h30 - leaving for work
07h10 - dropping the little one off for school
08h30 - starting work + having coffee (have coffee right through the day) snack
16h30 - picking up the little guy.
17h30 - leaving for appointments
19h00 - 20h30 - arriving home, preparing dinner, eating doing some admin, and then just relaxing.Depending on how tired I am I will finish up and go to bed.
What I realized - is that i dont eat during the day - not doing it for the past 5yrs now. So maybe thats the cause. I ussualy sometimes take a snack (as in a apple) but besides for that - if i take it the day, I dont relly eat until im done with work.
And Dan, no need to woory. I do understand the situation, I was not freaked out by you but much rather at the whole idea of being Diabetic - though I made the wrong conclusion.
Your input and responses re highly appreciated!

In the meentime, I will pack a lunchbox to work and see if there is any noticable diffrence.
Hi JR,
The snacks should help, may resolve this. Smaller meals, more frequently will keep your blood sugar level from having large changes.
As you can you should still get this checked but I think you have a solid plan to manage it.
Let us know if you have any more questions.
