My problem seems funny to a lot of people so I don't talk about it anymore. I just avoid open, wide spaces. Your guess? Yes, I have abnormal panic fear of open wide space. I have tried to cope with it alone, but I didn't have any results.

I am more scared day after day, so I avoid it. But sometimes, it is impossible to avoid it and I must go outside. When I am at open, wide spaces I start to panic like crazy and I can't control it. I have tried, but I can't. What's wrong with me?

Any clue?

Your fear has a name, it is a phobia actually called agoraphobia. It is an anxiety disorder in which the person perceives the environment to be unsafe with no easy way to get away. That is what is wrong with you and I'm sorry to hear that you are suffering from this, it is an awful phobia to deal with.

You can try with psychotherapy first in order to treat it. You can find some relaxation techniques on the internet which would be able to help you as well. I don't know if medications could help, you can ask your doctor that.

I didn't have a clue that this has a name. I just believed that this is simple panic fear. I never believed that there is some term for it. Yes, you are so right. I feel so unsure when I am there, I don't know what to do. I remember that once I was reading about those relaxing techniques and I don't remember that they have helped me at all. Also, to be honest with you, I never believed that this is a serious issue and that I need to visit my doctor. What about those techniques that you do know? Would you be so kind to share them with me, because I really don't like to visit doctors for anything. It would be nice to know :/ Thanks for your good advice!

Hello. It is the same thing as fear of crowded places. Exactly the same thing. Most of people make a difference between it, but it is the same. First, agoraphobia is the fear of crowded spaces and open wide spaces at the same and this is always a fear of having a panic attacks.

Yes, this is type of disorder, but I can't tell you how this happens. I do know that you need to treat it. Untreated can lead to very dangerous issues and it can become even more serious - it can make you feel depressed or suicidal. Treat it.

It is not easy to treat, I mean, you cannot simply tell someone to treat it and expect them to get over this disorder just like that.

I am telling you this because I am suffering from agoraphobia and I'm showing some progress but not too much. I am undergoing psychotherapy and I am not using any medications. I am talking to my psychologist twice a week and she told me not to take any medications because we can do this without them. I've started to go out a bit but not for too long because I still get scared if I stay out for too long.

Nothing is wrong with you, you are just suffering from this phobia called agoraphobia, it is not so common but it is not that uncommon either. I assume that you could just learn how to live with it, some people do that and they seem to be satisfied with living their lives with agoraphobia since they do not like people that much anyway.

On the other hand, if you want to treat this, I would recommend you to start undergoing psychotherapy, it should be able to help you a lot with this matter, or at least I think that it would.

You are normal, don't think that you are not. Do you even have an idea how many people suffer from some type of phobia? Well, you are just one of them. It is not very usual phobia, but it is not so unusual as well. This phobia is opposite from the fear of small spaces, from claustrophobia. So, don't think that you are not normal person just because you are OK with small spaces or of heights. For example, my friend has this problem but doctor told her that this is caused because of her bipolar disorder.

I don't know what is your diagnose, but it is treatable.

You really need to learn how to cope with this, this is not good, you are basically afraid of the world, this will make you stressed out most of the time so you should really seek some help here. I am assuming that you can find some useful info on the internet but it would be best to talk to someone, to your family or your closest friends, or you could as well start seeing a psychologist in order for him to determine what exactly is causing this fear of yours. You can overcome it, that's for sure, it is just a matter of time.

When I noticed that I have exactly the same problem that you described as well, and when I tried to explain to people that I really do have huge fear of open wide spaces, they told me that this is not possible. I remember that one day we went on some trip and there we were - huge, open, wide space was in front of me and I started to panic a lot. I just can't describe the feeling and than my friends noticed that something is not OK with me. They started to trust me in that moment, I think, lol. So, I want to say that this is not nothing weird, and this doesn't mean that you are crazy. You are not, you are perfectly normal person with some kind of phobia. Everyone has some, right?
