I've been on birth control on and off since I was 16 and never had an issue. I am now 29 years old. I had my 2nd child 9 months ago and my OB recommended birth control after she was born because of the higher chances of getting pregnant. After 2 months I switched to Lo Loestrin FE. No issues for the first 6-7 months. Out of nowhere I started feeling depressed and spacey. I've been through a lot this year.. a new baby, a pre cancer scare on my cervix, and almost left my husband twice because of choices he made. I started falling out of love with my husband which has never happened in 10 years. I didn't feel myself anymore. I went to my OB and she prescribed me anti depressants. I stopped after 2 days because I felt worse. I started getting suicidal thoughts (first time in my life I've had those thoughts, constant dizziness, brain fog, extreme anxiety, and headaches. My vision seems "zoomed out" like everything appeared further away. I thought it was from the anti depressants. 3 weeks later I was not any better. My OB told me to go to the ER because of the suicidal thoughts which I had no intentions of leaving my kids and my husband alone in this world. I couldn't watch crime shows anymore or read the news. My mom (who is a retired nurse) suggested it could be the birth control, she said her and my sister can not take them because it makes them feel crazy. 24 hours after stopping birth control I started feeling better. It's now been a month since I have been off them and I almost feel 100% back to myself. I have no intrusive thoughts, the dizziness went away in the first week, I am not depressed, and the anxiety has gotten so much better. I still have very very faint anxiety but it has gotten sooo much better. I will never take birth control again. My OB didn't even suggest it could be from the birth control.
Hello, Guest.
Lo Loestrin FE is a prescription hormonal birth control pill that contains a combination of two hormones: a progestin (norethindrone acetate) and an estrogen (ethinyl estradiol). It is important to note that all hormonal birth control methods can have side effects, and some women may experience mood changes, including depression, while taking these medications.
If you have recently switched to Lo Loestrin FE and are experiencing feelings of depression and spaciness, it is possible that the medication is causing these symptoms. It is important to discuss your symptoms with OB to discuss possible alternatives.
Have you switched to some other BC pills?
