Hi all, I had a yeast infection and I used Canesten. The bill and the cream. It's been about 3 since I used the pill and I've been using the cream but I think it's started causing me to bleed a little. Is that normal? Should I be worried?
Hi. A vaginal bleeding or spotting is not a typical side effect of Canesten (which contains clotrimazole) when used for yeast infections. Here are some points to consider:
-
Irritation: While clotrimazole is generally well-tolerated, some people might experience irritation, itching, or burning after application. This irritation could potentially lead to minor bleeding, especially if there's any scratching or if the tissue is particularly inflamed.
-
Infection or Underlying Condition: Sometimes, bleeding could indicate that there is another issue besides a yeast infection, such as a bacterial infection, an STI, or another gynecological condition.
-
Menstrual Cycle or Spotting: It's also possible that the bleeding is unrelated to the Canesten and is instead due to your menstrual cycle or mid-cycle spotting.
-
Insertion Injury: If you used an applicator or your fingers to insert the pill (or pessary) or the cream, there's a slight chance you could have inadvertently caused some minor trauma, leading to a bit of bleeding.
-
Other Medications or Conditions: If you're on other medications or have certain medical conditions, they could also affect bleeding. For instance, some blood thinners can increase the likelihood of bleeding.
Hope this helps.
