You can start working on your weight loss and begin the basic weight training at the same time - in fact, some basic weight training will actually help you lose weight. As far as your diet is concerned, since you want both to lose some weight and gain muscle, you'll need to balance out the calories you eat with burning them through exercise. For muscle building, you’ll need to include more protein in your meals, and cutting on sugar, soda, snacks and junk food will help you weight loss.
