Hi, I'm Patricia. Me and my boyfriend, Logan, normally use a condom but twice, while I was fertile, we didn't. We used the withdrawl method, and none of our condoms have ever broke. We had sex October 5 and October 7, the times I was fertile. My period was supposed to come October 23, but I'm 2 days late. I have had a lot of stress in my life in the past month but both my boyfriend and I are freaking out. We've prayed about 1,000 times. Please, please PLEASE, give me some advice. I'm 17, a high school senior. We're not ready to be parents. God, please hlp us..

Hi P&L,

The withdrawal method is not a form of birth control and is often ineffective.  Saying that, it's time for you to take a home test.  You can just be late.

When you test, use ONLY your very first morning urine for the best accuracy.  If it comes up negative, and still no period in a week, retest.

Good luck.

Dear Patricia and Logan

Stress can delay the onset of a period, and it may be that. Two days late is not uncommon.

However, you have been praying about your situation. What are your religious convictions? Was "God, please help us" a genuine cry to God? I will pray too.

If you are pregnant, Patricia, you need help (and so does Logan), and there are those who can sensitively help. If you are not, you still need to evaluate your lifestyle in the light of your religious belief, and help is available for that. Are you in the US or Canada?

I hope this helps. If you wish, you can private message me.

P.S. The withdrawal method is a form of birth control and it is still very widely used especially by young couples. According to the UK Family Planning Association a couple of years ago about 4 per cent of UK couples use it. It is, however, an unreliable method of contraception.
