i have had the worst symptoms for 2 years now misdiagnosed as anxiety attacks when the headaches, dizziness, neck pain, and this unexplained sensation of a vibration in my head continued to land me in the doctors office i started thinking i am crazy until a friend at work tells me i need to have my teeth looked at sure enough impacted wisdom teeth. why didn't i think of this well i haven't experienced any tooth pain or jaw pain so after a cleared ct scan of my brain i had the tooth extracted this afternoon and am hoping all symptoms subside loving the surgeon right now

Saraheli,

I had this exact same problem one day. Last year, on my birthday, I woke up to find my jaw swollen shut. It felt like there was a very tight rubber band wrapped around my jaw like a muzzle. I had bad breath and severe pain in the back left side of my jaw, by my wisdom tooth. My mom is the Director of Dentistry and Oral Surgery for a hospital so I called her and managed to mumble out my symptoms. One of her dentists prescribed me Penicillin and told me to take Motrin as I am allergic to Naproxen (this is just for the pain). I had to take the Penicillin 3 times per day, with a meal, and take the Motrin as needed for pain. He also advised me to stretch my mouth as much and as often as possible. While it was painful, this helped increase the distance that my mouth could open and prevented it from possibly closing up any further. Everything ended up fine after about a week and I went to see a dentist following to have my mouth evaluated. It turns out that I had periocoronitis. The flap of skin covering the emerging wisdom tooth had trapped a piece of food underneath it which caused an infection. My wisdom teeth were coming in fine and straight, it was just that when I brushed my teeth, I wasn't getting all the way to the back to my wisdom teeth. The dentist advised me to make sure that I brush all the way back there and gave me a separate toothbrush to use solely on the flap of my wisdom teeth, to make sure that nothing is lodged underneath. While uncomfortable and slightly painful at first, this prevented me from getting another infection. So as you see, you don't always need to have your wisdom teeth removed. Just contact your dentist. Most likely he'll just give you something to fight the infection and tell you to remember to brush back at the flap!

just to add my two cents,
i have a wisdom tooth coming through at the moment and i have ear and jaw pain, when i bite my teeth together sometimes it feels like the left side of my lower jaw is swollen, but there's no visible swelling,
apparently the tooth isn't impacted and these symptoms are common when wisdom teeth are coming through, it just takes time to find it's way through the gum,
ears and teeth are very well associated with each other, so it's natural to find ear-ache the only predominant pain

thank you all for replying, it really made me feel better after thinking i have something wrong with my lympho glands. i do have pain at the back of the jaw, it clicks with my ears, and my throat feels sore. i also have fever from time to tome with swollen neck and lymph nodes. i also have headaches. i can see my wisdome tooth under the gum, and i'm afraid to go check it out. im thinking of having general aneasthitic for the removal. do you agree on this?

All these post have been quite helpful to me. Almost 2 years ago, my lower left wisdom tooth was giving me severe burning pain for the first time in my life. It was actually coming through the skin. I went to the oral surgeon and had x-rays done. They said it was impacted and should come out along with my other lower one. I only have one on the top but they said it did not look like it would ever give me any problems. I had an appointment and when the pain left I canceled it. So here I am again almost 2 years later with terrible pain again. Not quite as bad as last time, but my neck, throat, and jaw ache. No headaches though like alot of the other posters on here. Will this pass to or should I have them removed. I'm nervous after reading all the complications of surgery. But on the other hand I could be pain free as far as wisdom teeth go. I like the other user thought maybe the pain in my throat and glands was somthing more serious.

I have been having alot of the similar symptoms as listed on here. And I am really hopeful that it is from my wisdom teeth. I was told 2 years ago I should have them removed, but I had no symptoms so I didn't, and now 2 years later, here I am. I have very short, quick headaches along with ear aches. My whole body just feels so weak and I am constantly tired. I don't know if I just have a mild to severe infection and that is causing these symptoms, but I hope so. The main thing that bothers me is that I just feel so weak and fatigued...which keeps me from playing with my 3 year old and he just can't understand it. I just want to feel better and quick. So I have a dentist appointment tomorrow at noon...so hopefully he will tell me some good news, that I need to have my wisdom teeth removed...because after everything that I have gone through (treating ear infections that never went away for 2 months as doctor recommended) getting my teeth removed won't be so bad if I feel better at the end of it.

ok so my wisdom teeth are growing but they are straight and my mouth seems to have enough room for them..the only problem i have is that my gum around it is swollen..i assume this is from the tooth growing in but i'm not sure..now because my wisdom teeth are growing straight and are basically fully out.. i assume that's not impacted because i read that it's only impacted if it isn't growing straight or hasn't fully emerged..i have an appointment with the dentist on weds but i was just curious if anyone knows whats up cuz i can't really find any info for what i have

Wow!! I had the same symptoms as most..My left ear, lower jaw and entire left side of head would hurt on and off. Ibuprofen would help the pain but back it would come. I went to the dentist and he recommend a root canal on another tooth. I couldn't get the procedure that day and scheduled another day. I went back and another dentist was in the office. He took x-ray and said he believed my pain was from my wisdom tooth. He siad the wisdom tooth had a bad cavity and needed to come out either way. He also wasn't sure about the other tooth, it didn't look infected to him. After some thought, I went ahead with the wisdom extraction(TODAY) which was pretty bad. I'm 31 and wisdom roots were deep and curved. I had at least 12 shots of lidacain as the dentist had to make incisions in my gums and literally break the tooth into peices to get it out. Very uncomfortable but I hope it stops the pain. Absolutely no pain yet (4 hours out) and keeping my fingers crossed.

Same deal here. Usually 400mg of Advil helps me to be able to open my jaw more than an inch. I've started carrying a ziploc bag of Advil in my purse. I should probably to my university's dental school...(only $800 to get all four out!!)

Good luck and feel better!!!!!!

Neck swelling is common with teeth infections.. This is because your lymph nodes swell up making you worry. Its not something to worry about if you do have an oral infection. There are at least 3 to 4 lymph nodes that surround jawbone and around your cervical (neck) area making your neck look enlarged and cause to worry about the swelling. It's a natural thing.

Interesting. I have had SO much trouble with my ears. Gone to an ENT and had surgery twice now. I have had my bottom teeth out, but the top ones are lost up there somewhere. It will be interesting to see if getting them out stops my ear problems.

I have the same problem, pain, especially below or at the bottom of my jaw. Sometimes my whole neck even feels odd. It's just an awkward feeling.

The pain happens occasionally or after I eat.
But it is on and off.

I know my wisdom teeth are growing in or are mostly grown in, but for the past few weeks they have been causing issues.

I am going to the dentist, and I probably have impacted wisdom teeth. The best solution is to have them removed!

If you have neck swelling you could have an infected nerve and need a root canal. If you do nothing about the infection you are putting yourself at high risk for further medical complications.

i have been having the same problem i went to the doctors 2 weeks ago with constant headaches and my jaw is aching badly , my ear was hurting . went to the doctors (nothing was wrong)

I never though for a second it might be my wisdon teeth but i came on here , read about people with similar symptoms and i think i will be making an appointment with the dentist asap.

i never thought they caused you any problems but i am dreading the outcome and if they have to take them out :-(.
