The best pain relief for wisdom teeth, impcted or otherwise, is clove oil, I recommend it so entirely it was the only ONLY thing that gave me relief, especially when it came to falling asleep, and it is also a strong anti-bacterial, preventing or minimising infection. It is a natuiral anasthetic. It is important to rinse and gargle to prevent infection in order to avoid further complications. I was in pretty extreme pain before I had my surgery and so I was putting it straight on my gums where the teeth were making themselves known, and also gargling and rinsing with it, not so diluted. Warning, this does burn a bit, but if you're in as much pain as I was it's not so bad, because it only burns for a minute. Otherwise put ten drops into half a glass of warm water to rinse, or a few drops in a little water and then on to a cotton bud and straight on the gum for pain relief.
Swollen lymphs and flu symptoms are very common if your gums are infected which leads to whole body weakness due to your lymphs all being affected together throughout the body, as well as your sinuses.

hi! My wisdom tooth hurts. And its been 2 days already and I my cheek is swelling. My upper right wisdom tooth is already out but not completely, like half of it is out so I don't think it is impacted but my gums are swollen. My other upper wisdom tooth hurt but not this much. They are of the same angle as the normal one , its just that the gums are a bit swollen...I eat really slow and it hurts and its annoying....i haven't gone to the dentist yet as I am in Korea and their doctors/dentists here are idiots(based from experience and the experiences of my friends) so i believe I should do this myself. What should i do to reduce the swelling?

I read all the above blogs and this comes as some relief. I have been suffering with the exact symptoms for over a year now; jaw pain, muscle pain in the jaw and temples, swolen glands, headaches, ear aches and feeling as though I have the flu. I have been told before that I needed my wisdom teeth pulled, but once I started to experience these symptoms no one thought it was dental related. They suggested maybe allergies, or immune difficiency or neurological. I have made an appointment finally to get my wisdom pulled, in hopes of being rid of all these unpleasant symptoms once and for all! Thank you

Hey all! For the past few months now I have had the same nonsense!. But when you say swollen neck what do you mean? With me I get pain in my back lower and upper jaw sensitive but relieving pain when i rub the area also pressure in my jaw and head, headaches, weird full like sensation behind my ears and slightly swollen neck glands when i get these episodes. NONE of my wisdom teeth are exposed but i know they are there from 3D x rays. Also I had a bad second molar removed a little while ago and since then a bit (sharp edge) of the unexposed wisdom tooth is feelable when i push my finger on it it is very prominant but still slightly below the gum. Obviously the tooth extraction has made room for it to grow but I am worried about the other 3 which are still deep in and I fear compaction!. Essay over lol

I have been suffering with pain in my jaw, neck , ear, and also am having severe migraines from my lower left wisdom tooth. It is halfway through, but about a month ago it broke off partially and has become eroded fast. If i haven't taken ibuprofen or my other prescribed pain meds i am in severe pain. I wake up about every 3-4 hours in pain, and just sit up and cry until my pain meds kick in. I have never suffered like this for such a long period of time and i am trying really hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel. I'm so mad and frustrated with this pain and feel completely hopeless. I do not have dental insurance, and here in louisville we have U of L hospital they have a dental program where dental students do the work, for a more affordable rate. The problem is I cant even be seen until Oct. 18! I have already been to the er twice and they said the tooth is effecting my nerves. I am out of options as to what to do next. besides wait for my appointment. I'm already done with the antibiotics, and yes, they did help for my jaw, but as for my head and ear the pain is still a 10.

My advice to anyone having any discomfort from wisdom teeth is to get them out immediately.

As an update to my earlier blog, 3 weeks ago today I had all four of my wisdom teeth pulled. Granted the recovery time has been a bit much, but I am already feeling a difference in the symptoms I was experiencing prior to the surgery. My headaches have lessoned dramatically, no more ear pain, still a slight pain in my temples and jaw (but I am still healing), and my glands arent hurting. Everyday that my mouth heals a little bit more, the symptoms seem to lesson. My advise to anyone experiencing the same symptoms, or debating whether or not to get their wisdom teeth pulled... do it. I wish I had known to do this 2 years ago!

Holy sh*t. I'm having the same symptoms. I'm 16 now and my wisdom teeth are coming in. Well it hurts so bad I cry sometimes. I have pain all behind my ears, down the back f my neck, up through the back of my head, migraines, and down through my chin. Its so horrific. I take ibprophine(sp?), asidomedofine(sp?), naproxon, everything. My pain just never seems to go away. I've even took teething tablets for babies to see if that would help. Nothing does. The only thing that seems to help is ambisole and weed. Its horrible. And I can't go to the dentist till the end of ths month or maybe even next month. Its the beginniing of the month now. Like I need something else to make this pain go away, I'm about to resort to more hardcore pain killers.

Hannah (:

I just wanted to add a bit of my experience as well. I'm 25 and I've got 4 wisdom teeth in. One is impacted and then another one they told me is sideways and backwards impacted! The two on the top are normal. I've been having really bad fatigue, weak, ears ache and feel full, jaw pain, blurry vision, dizzy, loss of appetite, anxiety/depression (which my doctor told me could be from my teeth that I need to see a dentist), disoriented, swelling in my neck/throat, sore throat, and just plain tired. That's the worst part is the loss of energy! I have 2 kids and I normally have tons of energy but I can barely keep up with housework! Its really frustrating because it does cost a lot, especially if you don't have insurance. I found a good dentist office that wont charge me 2500 bucks instead charging me 1200 which I can do. I go next Saturday and I can't afford to be put to sleep (800 bucks for that) so I'm going to be gassed. I'm not looking forward to the surgery but I can't wait to get these teeth out!! My mom told me I'll feel like a new woman after its all said and done and I sure hope so. To all of you suffering from wisdom tooth woes, you're definitely not alone. Best and only thing you can do is to not put it off and go see that dentist! :-D

OK, so what does it mean if you don't have any wisdom teeth? X-rays show that I don't have any. And one of my brothers not only doesn't have any wisdom teeth, but he still has some of his baby teeth. There aren't any adult teeth underneath to push them out. Extra-highly-evolved? Or just freaks? :)

Hi everyone,

Just a note about the neck pain symptoms:

A possible cause of neck pain and swelling is an infection. I had the same symptoms everyone is describing, swollen glands, jaw pain, unable to eat or open my mouth. The area around my impacted wisdom tooth was infected because it had broken through the gum. When this happens its very easy for food to get stuck there, grow bacteria and become infected. Tooth/gum infections can become very serious because it can spread to the jaw, which can lead to all sorts of badness like needing to get it removed if it goes unchecked and untreated!!!

If you KNOW you have impacted wisdom teeth or you have other jaw pain including your neck swelling you should see your dentist immediately to determine if you have an infection and until then rinse CONSTANTLY with listerine.

If you have neck swelling or glands popping out on your neck and pain, but you do not think you have wisdom teeth left you should see your primary care doctor, because you probably do have an infection, but it may not have to do with your teeth or mouth at all.

Neck/gland pain and swelling can mean a variety of bacterial infections not just wisdom teeth or jaw infections, but all bacterial infections should be treated quickly to reduce the risk of it spreading to other parts of the body and becoming a much nastier problem.

bottom line: go to the doctor, man.

Def too little too late for your guys i'm sure. I HOPE!!! I have become widom tooth's most recent victim,i'm sorry to say. It's been a long slow painfull process and omg! the frequent gum infections!!! so as a result of my fear of getting my teeth taken out awake! Here are a few tips on how i cope :-) regaurding the infections which apparently happen as a result of food getting trapped in the flaps of gum that wisom teeth break through I have found dabbling a cotton bud in tcp and dabbing thouroughly into infected gum (and under if poss) clear it up good and proper and using mouthwash frequently helps prevention. well it works for me....as for "teething" my god this is one of the most uncomfortible things i have ever experienced....its a continueous ache that just criples you! yes the gum is super tender. my throught is so swollen i can hardly swallow! and I though it was my eye sight but i guess the dizzyness, headaches and light sensitivity seems to be related(which is a releif if i'm honest!) i can't seem to get much releif but i personally am opting for ibuprofen bonjela and a regular coating of clove oil (with a side of water and chocolate to take away that god awful taste!)
