i think it depends on the person. all kinds of contraception alters the normal functioning of your body. it is expected to have its own side effects. the thing is, the doctor or whoever gave you the shot should have explained these side effects to you, and you who received the shot should have known or asked for information about these side effects. If it had been explained to you and you have known the effects, then it would not be fair to put all the blame on the drug. in the first place, nobody dragged you to have it.
thats very true. but the side affects im experiencing, were failed to be told to me. and i didnt know anything about the depo considering i was only 15. all i knew about was the pill. and my mom was the one who dragged me to have the shot, so it wasnt my idea to get it in the first place. these side affects arent normal and if they are, the doctor, nurse, did not tell me of the side affects that i am going through right now.. do you kind of see where the problem begins.
i wish my doctor would have told me about this problem before she put me on the depo provera shot. the worst part is i didnt even want to get it because i hate needles.i had my first shot in march and now that it's "expired" ,as my doctor put it, my period has been going on for about 2 1/2 weeks now! ugh well thanx for the info everyone cuz i was so worried that it was something more serious.

I just got the depo and im bleeding a little so im looking on this sight to see why im bleeding, now im so scared im going to get all the problems you have all had, i pray that all is going to be o k, but so far i have had pain, cramps, bleeding, feel like vomiting so bad i thought i WAS pregnant, and all the rest i dont think i will get a second shot
Im 2o years ols i had my bby 2 months ago at my 6 week check up my doctor convinced me to get the depo shot i thoght it was a good idea being that it lasted for 3 months! Since ive been taking the depo shot my body has totally changed i find my self catching my breath sometimes i would get cramps in different parts of my body im very moody, mild but irritatinf headaches that keep coming and going tiredness loss of interest in somethings i used to love! Its been 2 months since i been on the shot and i totally hate it i cant wait this last month so i can try some other method!
I've been on the depo shot for years. I love it ! Never had any side effects, I very rarley get a period, mabey just one day of light spotting. Works great for me.
I am reading these and while I feel awful for all the problems some people have had, I couldn't be paid to go off the depo. I used to have periods where I could soak a supersize tampon and pad in the course of an hour. I would be afraid to stand up and leave a meeting room at work, because I never knew what would happen. I would have cramps that hurt so bad it would make me cry and I don't even want to go into the diarreah or the clots. This was for 5 days a month. So, basically for 15% of my life, I really needed to be away from all humans, sitting on a toilet with more grossness going on than I could stand. I understood why some tribes shunned their women into huts for that time, I wished I was there. The reason I say this, I got on depo and all that went away. As I have told my doctor many times, if I ran away from life and joined a convent, promising a life of celebicy, I would not stop the depo. It has been wonderful, and, I must confess, there have been a couple of times where administrative paperwork have caused potential problems with my shot being given.... let's just say they would have had more luck cutting some guy at the methodone clinic off. Like any drug, it might not be right for you, but I wanted to make sure there was a good experience in here as well as all the bad ones.
I am 20 years old and was on Nuvaring for a year. The reason I switched to Depo Is because it was cheaper and last 3 months. I got the shot on Nov 25, On the 1st day of my menstral cycle. To my suprize I Got a period AGAIN on the 10th Of december that lasted 3 days followed by occasional spotting. Chistmas day the spotting started again, which completely turned my boyfriend off, it's not the 20th of Jan, and the spotting has still not stopped. I will not be getting a second shot. Will rather pay the price for Nuvaring than to put up with the cramps, mood swings and spotting.
I took the depo shot Dec.08th 2010 and i do not recommend this to ANYONE i've been bleeding for 30 days now..and was told its normal..i dont think so!! cant wait til its time to do it again i'm saying HELL NO
i have had pretty much the same problems as most of you! back in october 2010 i went and had a termination and at the same time i had the depo injection, i thought i would give it a go as all they told me was it lasts for 3 months so i said okay why not. so im bleeding for two weeks due to the termination and i stop for a coouple days then i start bleeding but very very lightly then all of a sudden at work it start gushing out so silly me is thinking its just my period starting. 5 weeks later im still bleeding so i go to my doctors and they have put me on the contraceptive pill just to stop the bleeding . so i did and it stopped after a few days. a week later i stopped taking the pill as i hated it, i couldnt eat i was very tired all the time and i was so run down i was coming out in spots. i started bleeding straight away and started getting really painful cramps in my stomach. i am still bleeding and getting blood clots. i would never recomend this, my opinion i think it should be banned! its not healthy for you its just full of c**p!
i started the depo nearly three months ago for ease and to gain weight.. i gained some weight which is good.. but the bleeding!.. i have been bleeding heavily for a month now if not just over!! its driving me insane! i cant go anywhere with out a pad on! if it dosnt stop i am not taking this again..
I've been on depo for over 8 years. I love it, I havnt had a period , spotting, or bleeding at all... Ive had no major side effects except not having my period. I think that was the best thing ever invented.. I love the depo shot. Everybody's bodies are different, so i understand the concern for some. My best friend had alot of bleeding and spotting.. but i have had no complaints and love it!
03/4/11 - I would never recommend this as a form of birth control, anyone that does is a horrible person. This shot is definately not made for everyone and you shouldn't chose it because someone recommends it. Always talk to your doctor first... I choose the shot after giving birth to my daughter because I couldn't take birth control pills without having uterus contractions, severe cramps and clotting. My doctor recommended this as a different choice. After I gave birth to my daughter in October I waited for my 6 week check up which I had just stopped bleeding 2 days prior. They told me to come back once my period started to recieve my first shot. That happened about 3 days later. So I got my first shot sometime in the beginning of December. I have only had 1-3 day breaks a month where I'm not bleeding. I'm bleeding any where from just spotting to heavy like a period. It also ranges in color from pink to dark brown. Physically it has taken a very strong toll, plus taking care of a newborn on my own doesn't help. I believe the loss of blood for almost 6 months has definately made me anemic. I'm always drained of energy and it has changed my mood drastically. I haven't had any problems with odor like the other women but the pads, tampons and panty liners get expensive. I called my doctor today and asked if I was better off getting off the shot or coming in for my next dose. She said if I get the shot it's not 100% that I'll stop bleeding, even after a third dose. But if I don't get the shot I would still have to wait for it to leave my system, which could take anywhere from 2 weeks - 6 months, there's no way to tell. I'm chosing to skip my next dose and let this c**p get out of my system. I'd rather go back to my old cycle than bleed constantly. Plus it has taken a toll on me and my fiance's sex life. I say if you don't want to get pregnant then practice safe sex. I never believed in taking pills or shots but I didn't want another child yet. I deeply regret it and hope no other women have to experience what I am.
