I have major concerns for one of best friends, he had testicular cancer a few years ago which resulted in him losing one of his testicles, luckily he gave birth to his first child after he had a testicle removed, last week he found a lump in his other testicle which is obviously concerning him, he has visited his GP yesterday and is awaiting for a scan. Now I am just thinking ahead worst case scenario, if he god forbid has got cancer again and has to lose his other testicle, is it possible to do a testicle transplant? If so I am willing to give my pal one of my testicles but I need to know how to go about it if possible.

Jay
Hi Jay,

You're a good friend, but no, you can't donate a testicle. Testicle transplants don't really exist.

In rare cases of undescended testicles, they are removed and then reimplanted into the SAME person. It's called testicular autotransplantation.

What he can do is donate his own sperm now, before any surgery. Then that sperm can be used if they want to have additional children.

Hope it helps.

Hi Dan

Thanks very much for the information, not what I really wanted to hear but at least it answers my question, do you think in the near future it would be possible? My friend is worried about not producing testosterone if he loses his other testicle, he is aware of the medication he can take but the side affects are a concern.

Thanks again Dan.

Hi Jay,

The medications that would be prescribed for testosterone replacement comes in tablets, a gel, or injections. The dosages are calculated to mimic those that your body produces naturally. It's not the same as the massive amounts of these hormones that some people inject to build muscle mass.

Injections are generally the best way to maintain levels, usually given at a 2-3 week interval.

With any medication there are side effects but again, in this case you're replacing what the body isn't making, you're not "supersizing" the dosage.

Hope it helps.

Hi Frustrated,

I'm sorry to hear about your accident.

Fortunately, you can have sex and get married. Lots of men have only one testicle due to accident or illness. You can have children of your own.

You may consider a prosthetic testicle. While not real, it will "look" like it did before.

Good luck.

Gee, what's wrong with having only one? You can still do everything you could with two. You were issued two just in case you lost one in a motorbike accident anyway.

Didn't the doctors or nurses who took care of you discuss this with you? That's pretty careless of them if they didn't.

No reason to be depressed, everything still works, doesn't it? You just don't have a spare anymore. You weren't planning on entering a testicle beauty contest were you? Do they have those?

Hi Frustrated,

If any of the nerves were damaged then yes, it is possible you may have erection problems. There are options.

Yes, your sperm count may drop but remember it only takes one. You should be tested several times for the results, not just one test. Your testosterone level may also drop. Another thing to consider is that in many cases the remaining testicle will increase production. If necessary, you may be prescribed hormones.

There are options for ALL of these issues.

Smoking can cause erectile difficulties by contributing to arteriosclerosis, a hardening of the arteries. If the blood can't flow easily, you won't get as strong an erection.

Moderate drinking shouldn't be a significant factor. Heavy drinking can reduce your testosterone levels.

Give your body some time to recover. Any injury in which you lose a body part can be traumatic, mentally as well as physically.

You will get through this.

No, transplants are not done for the testicle. Normally, if the second testicle has to be removed, they would recommend semen samples be taken and frozen so the man can use the semen later for children. Normally, they would ask the man if he plans on having children and what he desires. Some decide they have no desire so they lose the testicle. Normally, they are given the option to have a saline filled testicle installed for esthetic purposes.

Testosterone would not be prescribed in this case when the man has one remaining testicle. The one testicle as well as the other organs that regulat hormones will produce the same amount of testosterone as before. There would be no need for adding testosterone unless the one testicle does not perform properly which is ectremely rare. Tablets for testoerone are illegal in the United States. Injections create an up and down uneven level of hormone and most doctors now recommend the gel form as the best and safest.

its good to know that im not alone in this regard i recently lost my left testicle this past summer due to to torsion. i as soon i had pains i went to the hospital but to my luck i didnt run into a good er dr. i told her my nausea, abdominal pain, and even my blood pressure was high, she still didnt see the signs of torsion she saw my stature and assumed i lift weights in which i do, but that wasnt the case she examined my left nut which was swollen and said it was a hernia i was like are you sure she was like yes and i asked her twice, anyway than she asked me to rate my pain from 1-10 i replied with 8 her reply was aw c'mon you shouldnt hurt that bad its just a hernia and so i was like if this is a hernia this is painful and i barely could even walk, and so she discharged me to follow with a hernia surgeon the following week and which i did thats when my fate turned the hernia surgeon looked at me crazy and who told me i had a hernia in which the er dr did and so she sent me for an ultrasound in which they found out my left one died aw man i couldve punch the dr. its hard to come terms with my testicle being gone because of a doctor's mistake, and so of course im suing the hospital and the physician but i really interested in the implant i need some balance any suggestions you guys thanks.
