I am going to have an endometrial ablation soon. What I was afraid to ask my doctor is pregnancy still possible after an endometrial ablation. I am not planning child now, but it is good to know.

The answer is YES. Look, ablation does not provide reliable birth control, since ovulation still takes place as before, and the uterine lining may be receptive to a pregnancy. But pregnancy in general should not be elected after an ablation. , it can be dangerous because the procedure can cause changes in the uterus that make pregnancy potentially hazardous to the mother, including possible complications such as uterine rupture and placenta accrete. Because of these potential problems with future pregnancies, it is generally recommended that reliable birth control, be considered in women who undergo ablations.

I had an endometrial ablation 3 yrs ago and now would like to conceive another child, after the procedure I continue to get my period every month on schedule, it's just lighter, does this still mean that my linning may be too thin or is it possible that I can still conceive? My tubes are tied, so if conception is possible I would have to have a tubal reversal or IVF. First step is finding out if pregnancy to term is possible, I can only find horror stories, there are a couple of stories of women carrying to term, but is this really as rare as it seems?

I just got done reading your post...Yes you can still get pregnant. I also had the ablation done thinking I was done with children. 18 months later I found out I was 13 weeks pregnant and 6 weeks later got put on strict bed rest, and still my baby came at 26 weeks 6 days. (13 weeks early) weighing 2 lbs 2 oz. It was a VERY rough delievery for me and my child. All of my Placenta could not be removed at the time of C-Section. 11 days later my little girl died with grade 2 bleeding on the brain due to her not being able to be carried full term caused by the Ablation. I would hate to see anyone go thru what I have just a month ago of losing a child caused by Not enough information about the Ablation.

With all due respect. You shoul not have this procedure without REALLY talking to your doctor. Even though a pregnancy is "possible" that does not mean that it is viable. I have had an ablation. It was a difficult desicion because of the fact that it meant no more children. I had to have this procedure because of debilitating pain every month associated with my period. This is not to be taken lightly. If you become pregnant after having an ablation the possibilitie of having a catastrophic pregnancy are enormous. My husband decided he should have a vasectomy at the same time I had the ablation. You need to understand the risks associated with a pregnancy after this procedure. You not only are risking the pregnancy, but potentially your health ad your life.

I have had a bilateral Tubal Ligation over 3 years now & am now facing a endometrial ablation.  I am 39 & not on any contraception. Am I at risk for unplanned pregnancy?  I do not want to face the risks involved but am weary that pregnancy unexpectedly may still be possible.  This sounded to be a better option than a hysterectomy

Yes, pregnancy is possible.  This is not a means of birth control.  I had an ablation due to heavy bleeding and it helped.  That was 5 years ago.  I did get pregnant about 1 year after my ablation and it was the scariest time.  My water broke at 27 weeks and I had to be hospitalized for 6 weeks. My son ended up being just 4 weeks early and had to spend 1 week in the nicu.  My story has a happy ending, but not all do.  Do not have an ablation if you want to have a child!  Too much of a risk.  My child could have died and I could have died.  What would my husband and other two children have done?

I just read this post, and I am so sorry for your loss and pain. I had the ablation, I'm 48, and I'm now going to take extra precautions if ever I find myself in a position to have sex. That is just awful for you and your baby. God Bless.

i have had the ablation last march, and i have had my tubes tied since 2004 after my last child, i have not wanted another child because i hadnt found the right man to be with, and now that i have,  i have been wanting to give him a child, as he hsant any himself. i am sorry to read that there are some sad stories out there, and i am not looking forward to having go thru the pain if there is to be anything like that happen, but i am kinda glad to see that it is possible to have a child. i wish you all the best out there, and hopefully i can speak with my dr about this more. thanks for your posts.

Hi, Have you considered a surrogate? It may be a lot more reliable than risking health concerns for you and baby. Good luck and God bless!
