I have a friend who lives without a pancreas. He could give you some great advice, for he also practiced emergency medicine for over 20 years.

I'd love to talk to them!  Now on vitamin shots and anemic.  Not having very good luck finding a transplant center that does do-overs on pancreases.  I'm not very tech/gadget savvy so don't know how to leave my e-mail address privately.  I have the insulin part down after 40 years but this Creon and malabsorption thing has me baffled.

although my pancreas was not surgically removed i had an acute necrotizing pancreas attack that destroyed my pancreas. In CT scans it is a mass of scar tissue and cysts the duct was completely destroyed and it is not producing insulin. My first year was a complete nightmare at adjusting. I have learned to control the diabetes with exercise. With the right enzyme count and foods i have very little pain now when eating. if i can answer any questions i would be happy to. Rich

I use Creon 24,000 and after a few moths of learning the hard way I take 1 with snacks, 2-3 with meals and have become one of those sad scary LA women who knows fat gram counts.

Stay strong. Keep on track with your medication. And the most important thing, please live your life normally. Met this wonderful girl around 4 years ago. Had a surgery to remove her pancreas and spleen due to an accident that happened 6 years ago. Yes she does have problems especially after taking meals, but she keeps telling me she is fine. At first I doubted her after knowing her condition until she told me she would love to live like a healthy person. The last thing she would wanna hear is when someone telling her that she is not alright. Her courage and her determination stunned me. She is the most important person in my life as she is actually my fiancee soon becoming my wife. You are not alone.

Hi.  My sister has been living without a pancreas and gallbladder for about 18 years.  Since this past December she has been struggling.  She is in and out of the hospital almost constantly. She gets internal bleeding too and needs blood transfusions.  She is weak a lot and needs to get iv potassium fairly regularly.  Her quality of life now is extremely low.  She can't afford Creon and takes 1 Pancrease enzyme with meals.  However, many times she can only exist on liquids.  She is currently in the hospital getting a transfusion because her hemoglobin is low.  Any suggestions for her?  It is so upsetting.  Thanks.

after a few months of living without a pancreas or part of small intestine it turned out I had a B-12 deficiency also. A month later I felt a whole lot better. Doctors need to stop internal bleeding, like NOW! If her liquid meals contain any fat she will need enzymes with that too. If you are in US she can get on a national medical plan which will pay for prescriptions. I'm so sorry about your sister and the lack of medical care, it's just so wrong on so many levels. Most of us will have vitamin deficiencies and she probably needs shots or under the tongue vitamins. Do they have any idea where the bleeding is coming from?

Hi there - I am living without a pancreas and it took a long time before I was able to find some sense of "normal". I take Creon as a pancreatic enzyme and am also on daily injections of insulin. I don't know of any other people living without one, but I do know that it is a daily challenge but one that is possible to overcome. I hope everything works out for you.

Hi scaredsheila. Please don't be so scared. And ill tell you why. My cousin who is 45 years old now had the Wipple surgery 20 years ago when most of today's technology was locking. She's be do very well so far and being on Creon for all this time which seem to help her a lot. Unfortunately she does not speak any English so she asked me to write this comment for her. She says that everything will be allright with your upcoming surgery since so much more is know this day about these procedures. And we both wish you well. Smile!!!!!!!

Thank you so much for writing back to me and thank your cousin as well. It was reassuring to hear of another and especially since she had the procedure done so long ago and is still living. I did have the surgery and am coping fairly well now.

Glad to hear that the surgery was a success. Its only normal that as time goes by "coping fairly well now" will become " I'm doing very very well now" Keep up the faith, and we both wish you the best in the future.PS keep us updated okay? Take care.
