I am 28 years old and in February, I found out I had neuroendocrine cancer. They didn't know that the tumor was on my pancreas when they operated to remove it, they thought it was on my liver. So, when I came to after the surgery, I found out I'd had a whipple.
It was hard, those first few months. This surgery completely reroutes your digestive system and involves taking out your stomach, so you actually have a lot in common with people recovering from bariatric surgery. It is still painful over 6 months later, but I don't throw up so often, and I am controlling my diabetes.
If you want to talk, I hope you'll respond. I don't know anyone with a situation like mine. This is the first message board I've found that was at all helpful.

HELLO
I had 3/4 of my pancreas removed along with my spleen in May this year, had a 10cm benign tumor. Feel very lucky to still be here, only meds I am on is anti bios for the immunity.
I know its still early days (6 months) but not feeling "normal" whatever that is !! can anyone relate, or al least tell me its gonna get better. I have pain in my tummy, pain in my right side, gone off food. Alas the one thing I have not done is lose weight, in fact I would go as far as saying that I have gained it :(
Tried talking to my consultant who just looked at me blankly !
Would love to hear from anyone
Cheers, Julie xx
Hi. I don't know what kind of surgery you are talking about. It sounds like you may be getting gastroparesis one of the many neuropathies we get. Your nerves in your stomach don't feel there's food there so they don't start the digesting process. You definitely do not want a whipple for this. There are drugs that will help with the digestion problems but I forgot the names. Talk to your endocrinologist. I'm vision impaired and this was supposed to go to the post by c. nelson.
I hope you are still well
Regards
Darren
can you tell me what king of food do you eat and how you make them. And are you maintaining your weight?
it's amazing how much just 10% of a pancreas will do. I have to take one even if I have milk in coffee!
buy an enzyme high in amylase, and she needs to get insulin shot.
Yes I have lived without a pancreas for about 6-7 years and my life has been miserable. I have even told I am te only one living without this. Oily stools, low and high sugars and now loss of feeling in left legs.
hope you get more better.
wat is the dose of your enzymes. you should take at least 4 to 6 pills for each meal. check this site http://www.cftrust.org.uk/forum&start=0 and i belive you should let your doctor know bout numbness in left leg.
I'm in Los Angeles and I can't find a doctor who has another patient without any pancreas at all. I've been a diabetic for 41 years so have that down to a science. About 6 humalog shots a day, spilt Lantus morning and bedtime and about 9 creon a day. It's a time consuming thing and there is no such thing as leaving the house without insulin, glucose tabs and Creon. It has only been a year but I now take sublingual vit d and b-12 and feel pretty good. You have got to get 24,000 units of creon and take at least 2 with meals and one with snacks. Your life will change! Promise and get to a doctor about all this.
Hi. My name is Christy and I was born with Chronic acute pancreatitis. I've had LOTS of surgeries including having my pancreas removed almost 13 years ago-I'm 38 yrs old but I still have chronic pain, nausea and vomitting. I have an internal morphine pump that gives me small amounts of morphine delivered into my blood stream throughout the day. They're are plenty of people who have the same issues so don't lose hope. Some days are better than others but I'm not gonna sugar coat it either..some days (you just want to curl up into a little ball). Its like being on a roller coaster sometimes you have normal days and other days you have to go to the ER. I have my strong beliefs in my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ that gets me through because theirs a quote from movie I like called "Facing The Giants" that I say, "On good days I praise him and on bad days..I praise him.
potatoes are very high in sugar. VERY! Be sure to watch blood sugars if you eat potatoes. Persoonally I stay away from them.
