Yes, I have the same thing and will try Witch's Hazel. I have been very embarrassed thinking that as an adult I had somehow lost the ability to completely "clean" myself. One thing that helped a lot, at least between movements, was to put a generous amount of baby powder in my underwear (I'm a male who wears "tidy whities"), it helps keep things "dry" and itching and other annoyance down when I'm not struggling to go. And yes, this problem seems to go along with constipation, fun!

[A follow up as promised. :D Great news...since I last reported my story I am now 100% free from all symptoms and in the process I lost about 28 pounds and maintaining. I eat lesser amounts of the foods that I had to take out of the diet to kill off the yeast without any issue. I could eat more, but I like the weight loss. My colonoscopy found me to be free of any issues. Granted not all symptoms are the same and thus not all cures fit, but whatever the case may be you have to stick with a program for an extended period of time and monitor the progress. It is like dieting, if you give up you will never know what result you might achieve. :!:
Also, I found that you can purchase the supplements on for half the price of the health stores and shipping is free!
Somone mentioned fissures and in fact I had those too as a result of the yeast overload. The tissue becomes very sensitive and swollen as a result of the yeast, so that it becomes a multi-dimensional problem. Kill the yeast and the rest heals too. ]

I began to experience itching and on certain ocassions burning after a BM. I have always used wet wipes at home to clean and still do. After doing research and discussing the symptoms with a doctor that is willing to work with alternative medicines. We began with the possibility that I have a yeast infection. The ultimate goal is to bring the yeast level back to normal. Treatment consist of changing my diet by cutting out ALL sugars, alcoholic beverages, vineager (use lemon and extra virgin olive oil with seasoning for salad dressing - it taste great), fruits, fruit juices, wheat grain products (breads, flour, pasta, cereals, etc.), tomatoes, carrots and products containing sugar or corn syrup ingredients. I take the following dietary supplements (available at your local natural food store) twice per day; 3 ea. Kyolic, 3 ea. Yeast-Cleanse, 3 ea. PB8 Pro-biotic Acidophilus (14 billion good bacteria) and 2 ea. Capryl. I have been on the program for 7 weeks.

The results have been very good. I am 99.9% rid of the itching and burning (only every few days and extremely mild). The up side is that I have lost 14 pounds. I will soon begin to reintroduce these foods to see if the yeast is back to normal levels. If it returns there is a test kit, but main stream doctors will not be aware of the test. I do not know the name, but if you can find a doctor to provide one you have to send a stool sample into the lab and they test for yeast (to find what kind), bacteria and parasites. It apparently cost about $400, but for me it would be worth it.

I am do to have my second Colonoscopy in three years, so that will put any concern there to rest.

I really hope this helps some of you. I am 30 year old male who eats healthy excercise and does not complain about all that much.
About 8 years back, I started to get terrible itching in and around the anus. I walked around with Tucks all day and when the itching was bad the act of walking was terrible. I believe the itching started after an abnormally hard stool that caused anal tearing.

To make a long story short after going to several doctors and 8 years of having this itch I finally figured out what was causing the itching and how to avoid it all together.

First thing I did was I stopped using Tucks and any cream.
I kept the are dry with powder for a few weeks after coming out of the shower.
I switched from toilet paper to baby wipes.

The main thing is this - after a stool I found that there was some fecal matter inside my anus.- not a lot but enough to cause terrible irritation. I imagine that a fissure or hemroid was the cause of this excess fecal matter staying inside.

I gently insert the baby wiped into the anus cleaning the excess fecal matter out.
After a few weeks of doing this the itch went away.
It's been almost 6 months and I am free of the itching.

I used to read these boards all of the time and I am really happy if I can help one of you with this.

Sounds like celiac disease which goes hand-n-hand with lactose intolerance. Trya gluten/dairy free diet for a while.

It's so easy I hate bloated replies.

- Try witchazel for a week, if that doesn't work, you are not cleaning yourself enough. Cleaning does not mean exfoliation or scrubbing.
- You need to shower more frequently b/c the build up on your skin flows down like glass. It can create problems in the front too. You do
NOT want that.
- It is also easy to get a Staph infection in these conditions. Another road you don't want to take. Shower at least every 2 days if not
once per day if you have a job in which you perspire, then you should shower everyday.
- This is not the end all be all you may have internal or external hemeroids. If none of this starts working withing 2 weeks, see a
professional proctologist.

Sorry as a doctor I had to respond to this.

PS - should NOT dig around your rectum with a fingernail BTW.

Hopes this helps someone. :?

Me too. I thought I had a hemroid but the witch stuff made it go away. 8)
Western medicine is a last resort medicine. Hospitals are mostly for trauma centers. Get a good GP who knows his/her stuff and they can help you better than all the googling in the universe. You do not have a disease related to the gentlemen earlier. So no freaking out. This is common among all humans we just don't talk about it and some have it worse due to skin pH ballences, etc...

For a lot of you try Betaine HCL supplement. You may not be digesting your food properly and it comes out too soon - undigested. ....especially if you are older. Worked for me, eliminating the itch, diarrhea and colon discomfort.

I too use Vicks for the anal burning. It does burn some for a few minutes but it does take the rectal burning away for a while. I would like a permanet rememdy if someone has one.

My situation is the same as you all discribe. It started for me when I increased fiber in my diet, having 1 or 2 homemade bran nuffins a day. One with my morning coffee. I am going to stop the bran. Also too much peanut butter will create the same situation. We can only try. Baby wipes are the only wipes that don't make it worse. Good luck.

I have the very same problem and have had for a few yrs.  One doctor told me to quit using dryer sheets when I dry underwear.  I have wondered it the cause could be from wearing pantyliners or using wipes.  Sometimes I eat sugar free foods which I know causes leakage and intestinal pains as well as diar.  I have swelling in the rectal area so I have uses hemmoroid creams and supositoris.  Still nothing gets rid of this.  It will go away but withing a couple ofweeks it is back.  I too am at a loss of what is going on.  My friend went through colorectal cancel a few yrs ago and she has to wear to colosty bag now.  She has lots of problems and rarely goes anywhere.  I am afraid this may happen to me so I havent been to a doctor in over a year on this.

I have  the same problem with rectal itching.  I have spent a lot of time researching this and finally came to the conclusion that I have too much acid in my stools.  The problem is worse when I eat a lot of fruit and tomato products, I have used Desitin and diligently clean after every bowel movement with wipes. At times it is unbearable.

Nothing seems to stop it for any length of time, I will be seeing a new doctor and I will see if she has any answers.
