I'm so glad I'm not the only person with this issue.

Though mine is less an itch and more of a burning and muscle spasm that flares up after BMs.

I've been to a specialist about this and he insisted it was hemerrhoids. I exhausted my money on every solution for hemerrhoids possible (from prepH, perscription medications, witch hazel with aloe wipes, washing after BM, sitz baths, heating pads, ice cubes, increasing fiber, increasing water, increasing exercise, localized perscription pain cream), none of which has eased the pain. The only thing that's given me a minor amount of relief from the debilitating pain is taking a zantac every morning and probiotics. This leads me to believe it may be too much stomach acid and it's getting into my intestines (which my (sexist) doc said wasn't possible). Or some kind of bacterial overload (I have sinus infections a lot, and as a result have taken a lot of antibiotics over the last 15 years, as well as having been on birth control for an extended period of time, which could possibly lead to a yeast infection?).

I can't help but think that taking a zantac for such an extended period isn't good for the body, but I don't know what else to do. And I know that the zantac is only treating the symptom. The cause is still there.

So thank you everyone who's had suggestions for stuff I haven't tried yet.

On an unrelated note, is it illegal in the US for a doctor to tell you he doesn't want to treat you anymore?

I have been taking naproxen for years but only recently developed this burning in the anal area. I also drink + PH 8.5 Kangen water to counteract acidity reflex. Today, I switched to 'clean' 0ph water in the event that I have overcompensated and may be too ph+; though I think this is unlikely since our bodies are naturally acidic. Will try the witch hazel for cleansing along with the bidet I use regularly.

First I want to say, FU to the doctor on here. I've had this problem almost 2 years, My doc has prescribed creams for yeast infections, and told me to use Desitin while on my period to help the issue.
I took a bath after EVERY bowel movement, luckily I am a stay at home mom and could, I would have died if I had to suffer thru work like this.
I tried the witch hazel, I complained more to my doc. I even started getting UTI's, 2 in the past year and never had one before. Do you think my doctor would put 2 in 2 together yet, no! So I'm doing my own research and so happy I found this site. So doc,if my doctor can't diagnose me, how the hell r u going to sitting at your chair on a computer!!!!

After reading all this, I do eat alot of Peanuts and cereal. Recently started adding flax to my diet and this week has been terrible again.
So I thank all of you for your posts and will try to figure out, on my own of course, what is causing the flare ups.

I also have noticed that this problem gets worse when I take Advil and or Aleve. Originally I thought it was because of my period, but finally connected it to the pain relievers (Which I usually only take when on my period) when I was taking them for a back ache. Symptoms gets much worse when taking these.

I have finally stumbled on what appears to be a cure. I am in the Philippines and one of my workers gave me a concoction of sulphur and coconut oil or efficascent oil. This stings at first, but continued daily use has resulted in healing. I also use this to prevent cracking of the skin between my toes (atheletes foot).

I had the same symptoms as you. It followed after an unprotected sexual intercourse with a lady. I have been suffering for 6 months now. It started with hitching and then a sharp mid section and lower left pain, with spasms. There was also alternating between diarrhea and constipation. I am having a colonoscopy next months. What else should I do? I learned my lessen not to have unprotected sex with a stranger. Michael

Do you know a brandname or something to call it if one would want to buy the mix of sulphur and coconut oil that you mentioned? thanks!

I have the same itching and burning problems after bowel movements.  I have been checked for all the standard illnesses including h pylori, parasites and had a colonscopy completed with all negative results.

After some extensive research, I found that Zinc Oxide ointment is fantastic to treat the itching and burning problems.   Many of the big retail drug stores such as CVS, RiteAid, Walmart and Walgreens do NOT carry this ointment in a highly concentrated form.  I found mine at a locally owned and operated drug store.  It comes in a tube, the ointment is white and is 40% zinc oxide and is quite inexpensive.  This is the same ingredient used in the treatment of diaper rash in infants.  However, do not waste your money purchasing the "baby" products as the concentration of zinc oxide is very LOW in those products.  You may even need to have your physician prescribe the ointment to have the big retail pharmacies order it for you if you cannot find it in a locally owned drug store.  It only takes a small amount to provide instant relief!

If I consume lots of citrus fruits, I get burning bowel movements and irregularity. Lots of fruits in general will give me irregularity but it seems as if the citrus like lemons causes the burning. It takes a week to get back to normal.

Citrus, alcohol and caffeine are actually 3 of the worst enemies you will want to avoid at all costs while having hemorrhoids.

Go more for bananas and berries like blackcurrant instead.

- Try witchazel for a week, if that doesn't work, you are not cleaning yourself enough. Cleaning does not mean exfoliation or scrubbing.
- You need to shower more frequently b/c the build up on your skin flows down like glass. It can create problems in the front too. You do
NOT want that.
- It is also easy to get a Staph infection in these conditions. Another road you don't want to take. Shower at least every 2 days if not
once per day if you have a job in which you perspire, then you should shower everyday.
- This is not the end all be all you may have internal or external hemeroids. If none of this starts working withing 2 weeks, see a
professional proctologist.

Sorry as a doctor I had to respond to this.

PS - should NOT dig around your rectum with a fingernail BTW.

Hopes this helps someone. :?

This is the only post that makes sense. Worked for me. :D

Me too. I thought I had a hemroid but the witch stuff made it go away. 8)
Western medicine is a last resort medicine. Hospitals are mostly for trauma centers. Get a good GP who knows his/her stuff and they can help you better than all the googling in the universe. You do not have a disease related to the gentlemen earlier. So no freaking out. This is common among all humans we just don't talk about it and some have it worse due to skin pH ballences, etc...

In my opinion and experience WESTERN MEDICINE is USELESS , trying to find a single DR who doesn't just throw drugs at the problem instead of trying to find the cause.

Google and others online have been a TREMENDOUS HELP and haven't cost me a dime

Thank you for writing to the subject. I have had the same symptoms for years and it gets worse every day. I have about 4 or 5 bowel movements in the morning (not diarrhea) but the itching and burning afterwards is terrible. I take some cream but I don't know which doctor to see. I had a colonoscopy with some polyps. I don't think the doctors know what this is either. I didn't get any help what's so ever. Any ideas? I would very much apprececiated.
