I am so itchy now its bad. Got rash on back, arms, back of head, and chest and little further down. Have not been in any contact with anyone for along time, rule that out. Have been this way before, diagnosed with scabies too, and where can I possibly get that. Havent moved out of the house, touched dirt, so its not that. Doing research. Seems maybe its bread which I have been eating and alot of sugar. Read it can be parasites, and I got major invasion going on here maybe. Have tried the anti parasite deals which did work. Also notice when im not regular in my bathroom movements, it becomes worse. Believe it may as well be a toxic buildup that is so bad that it comes out as in acne and rashes, as well as making you feel ill. If this helps at all. Havent been able to get out and get anything to remedy this since iI have really been feeling bad and itchy. Also I have had swelling of the feet and hands mostly in summer, believe its just the weather or too much salt.

I recently visited a local allergist with 20+ years of experience. Basically he confirmed what I had already known.

Here are my symptoms again.

Swelling in hands and feet. Occasionally around eyes or on lips.
Swelling in areas that are under continual pressure
Esophigeal spasms
Hives on arms, legs, torso and scalp

Generally hives last for no more than 6 weeks. In my case I was diagnosed with Chronic Hives where the length can take years to resolve itself. In approximately 90% of cases, there is no known cause. Basically what is happening is that the body sees good cells as problematic and it releases hystamines to attach healthy cells. Many of you have mentioned that alchohol tends to cause problems. It can with chronic hives or even a regular allergic bout. Alchohol for some reason increases the amount of hystimines released into the body which will make your hives worse. I experienced this with two beers and I was miserable.

My Doctor recommended that I take 3 Zyrtec a day. Two before bed and one in the morning. In addition to that he prescribed 25 MG of Doxeprin should the Zyrtec alone not work. I have been taking both for about a week and a half and all of my symptoms have cleared.

Good luck to all of you and my prayers are with you

Hello all,
I had these symptoms for years, starting when I was about 9. They've gotten worse in adult life(after a long absence in my young adult life). Here's what I've learned:
When I was 9 I took 2 courses of broad spectrum antibiotics to get rid of stubborn bronchitis. Shortly after my hands feet and arms became covered in little itchy blisters that itched like nothing I'd ever felt. Though no one made the connection at the time, I believe the antibiotics caused Candida overgrowth. Candida is a single cell organism that normally lives in the body but is kept in check by healthy bacteria. Antibiotics kill good as well as bad bacteria.
Throughout my childhood the rashes came and went along with the swelling. In my teen years when I became obsessed with loosing weight, the rash disappeared completely and I didn't see it for 10 years. During and after my pregnancies the rash returned. I also noticed that I began to react badly to alcohol-puffy hands, feet, face, whole body and the rash got noticeably worse after a night of alcohol. Drinking made me gassy and bloated. Fermented alcohols had the worst effect-beer,wine,champagne. When the rashes were bad I also became aware of other symptoms I had had in my youth: General achiness, swollen glands, flu-like symptoms without ever really being sick. I also gained weight rapidly.
Lots of doctors and a lot of money out the window later, I started solving the problem on my own. I eliminated from my diet the things that triggered the rashes: A.B.S.-alcohol,bread,and sweets. Not any easy thing but neither is being unable to walk because one's feet are so swollen and blistered. I noticed results almost immediately but I also felt worse for a while. I learned that this is due to the "die off" effect of yeast (candida). A helpful gal in a health food store gave me a product that kills candida without producing the die off effect. It's called Candex and it's made by Pure Essence labs. It's enzymes that destroy the cell wall of the yeast. Killing it this way prevents the yeast cell from producing toxins which is what makes you feel bad.
DO NOT waste time with a dermatologist. I've seen many of them throughout my life and only one diagnosed it as a fungal rash.(Candida mutates into a fungus.
DO NOT take antifungals. They work for a time but the candida can mutate and become resistant. Then it comes back with a vengeance. I learned this the hard way. They are also hard on the liver.
SYMPTOMS VARY FROM PERSON TO PERSON. The length of time that the candida overgrowth has been present, how far gone the problem is, diet, other contributing factors such as thyroid disease, Celiac Disease or non-Celiac gluten intolerance, and a host of others.

Many doctors will tell you that yeast overgrowth only occurs in cancer and AIDS patients. It is true that it is a problem for immune compromised patients BUT IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF DEGREES. You can have yeast overgrowth without it completely overtaking your body. I've read that this is what cancer and AIDA patients often die of. The candida takes over the body. It can cause heart problems as the yeast surrounds the heart (and other organs), mental problems-depression, brain fog, and irritability, among other things. I was diagnosed with all sorts of things: chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, peripheral neuropathy, depression and an unrecognized heart problem. I no longer have any of those symptoms. I feel and look better at 42 than I did at 34.

MY PROTOCOL:
No Alcohol
No Wheat Products (I am non-Celiac gluten Intolerant)
No Sweets
Fairly low carbohydrate diet

Candex-use as it says on bottle. 2 in the morning and 2 at night on empty stomach

For topical treatment of the rash:
Not many over-the-counter products have worked. Antifungal creams will help a little but as the problem comes from the inside, it will only work so much. Calendula cream, not ointment provides symptomatic relief, especially when it's in the cracked stage. When I was a kid my father, who was a bookworm read up on fungal rashes. He went to a local compounding pharmacy and bought copper sulfate powder, mixed it with water and had me soak my hands and feet in it. Definitely confer with a pharmacist about this. Copper sulfate is toxic
AVOID STEROIDS-both topical and internal. They contribute to yeast over growth. THIS INCLUDES OTC HYDROCORTISONE. It is absorbed into the blood stream.

If you have to take antibiotics:
No alcohol
no sweets
eat PLAIN yogurt with active cultures 3 times a day
or
take a probiotic supplement. Buy the refrigerated kind

Other things can cause yeast overgrowth. It's not just antibiotics. Any thing that puts your digestive flora out of balance will do it. Stress, lack of sleep, birth control pills, any hormonal changes.
I still enjoy some alcohol once in a great while and sweets very occasionally. I just have to be careful to make it few and far between.

Another thing to be aware of is that when you have yeast overgrowth you crave the very things you should not eat or drink. The yeast wants what feeds it and you crave it. Very weird but it's true. I used to think I was going out of my mind, dreaming of sweets then waking up to go raid the fridge. It consumed me. That's gone now and I'm 85lbs less!

Two books the helped me immeasurably: The Diet Cure by Julia Ross and The Yeast Connection by William Crook, M.D.

Hope this is helpful to someone out there.

At about age 12 (I am 30 now), I started getting what we called "welts" on my skin whereever pressure was applied. So, for example, I would get welts across my back after sitting in my school desk. The welts would itch, and where I scratched I would get welts exactly tracing my scratches, which itched even worse! All of the spots were very itchy and would "spread" the more I scratched.

I eventually was diagnosed as having abnormally high levels of histone in my blood and given some oral allergy medication (I can no longer remember the name, but it started with a P) and told to use Benedryl topically. That calmed everything down to a managable degree. I have on and off taken allergy medications for extended periods in the ensuing years (namely Claritin and Zyrtec, never shots).

As an adult, I now have seasonal manifestations of the same allergy. When the outdoor temperature changes, the hives/welts flare up and I start taking Zyrtec or Claritin until the season settles. It could be that allergy shots are needed for those with more severe symptoms. Either way, the medication takes care of the problem. I may still have more noticable skin irritation when pressure is applied (like scratch marks showing up on my skin for longer than "normal"), but the itchiness and severe welting goes away.

The good news (I guess) is that this is something you can live with and it is manageble with no real adverse effects. Good luck, everyone!

Alright, I've had these symptoms since puberty.
At first i thought it was a drug reaction -Flagyl (metronidazole)- and it was hideous! Started off with small red spots, like mosquito bites; however, extremely symmetrical and all over!!!!! Then, a couple of hours later, they turned into these huge bumps, all over my arms, thighs, legs, back...
The same thing happened the next summer, when i took another medicine (same material though:metronidazole). It was then that we thought it was drug reaction. HOWEVER, since then, i've been having less intense yet really annoying red swelling at the least pressure. Especially my feet, hands and neck!!! It's irritating! They get even more intense at hot seasons (i think weather is almost related) and after eating too much eggs (more than 3 per day or more than twice a week!)
I asked many doctors, some said it was stress (but that was not it!)
Recently, I went to a doctor who gave me a very convincing answer!
This was a sort of : Infection of Skin Blood Vessels. It's more like an Autoimmune disease! The bad news is: there's no cure =S
The good news is that we can avoid it.
Avoid feeling hot (especially humidity) -- it amplifies the infection
Check whether any of the following triggers the rash:
- Peanuts
- Tomatoes
- Fish
- Banana
- Eggs
- Hairy Fruits
Also, avoid contact with animals.
The things mentioned above may not all stimulate the rash, but it's very possible that they do, so be aware and test yourself.
With Love =)
ps. whenever the bumps start to appear (like the one appearing on my hand right now because of staying to much on my laptop), quickly "immerse" in COLD water for a while. It wont itch and thus, it'll go away =)
Hope this helped. xx

Yeah ive had these same symptoms, they started this last Halloween, at first i thought it was because of a dye cause i ate tooooo much candy but i soon figured out that that didn't cause it, i thought it was this gingerbread soap i was using but its been like almost a month and the soap should have cleared my system by now... The reactions on my feet, arms, legs, and hands. Little bumps will just appear outta no where then if i even touch them they will like grow huge and spread all over. And its insanely uncomfortable when my feet react to it cause they swell up and there's great pressure all over. but then after that i go to the tub and soak them in hot water or take a hot shower and there all good. It seems to react to the cold alot.

Holy moly! I've been researching this problem on and off for the past year trying to find out what was wrong with me. My doctors have tested for many things (allergies, Celiac, Lyme, Arthritis etc.) and nothing has even give them a new direction to look. I was beginning to think I was the only one with these exact symptoms, but many of you are describing exactly what I have:

It started with the swelling. The doctors didn't listen to this very well. The swelling is not in my joints, it's in the fleshy areas of my hands and feet. Sometimes a single digit on a single finger could swell up, other times it could be the fleshy area below the thumb. Other times it could be a spot on my leg where pressure was applied. The first instances of the swelling came after using a drill for hours at a time. I thought it was caused by vibrations. Then my hands would swell after raking leaves. Now, while it does seem to be affected by pressure, the swelling comes and goes without cause.

Secondly came the rash. Or what I was describing as a rash and was not finding results in my search. When I search for 'Hives', it was more clear. I thought the rash was spider bites. My doctor thought it was Dermatitis Herpetiformis. Going off gluten seemed to help, but it also coincided with a 7-day steroid treatment which knocked the symptoms out right away. The rash (and swelling) came back after 2 months of being Gluten free. The rash has also gotten worse, at first it would only affect my torso. Now I get it on my neck, forehead hands and feet.

1 dose of Prednisone helps the symptoms, but when I'm really flaring up, they come back about 24 hours later. I could go weeks with a small symptom here or there and have a week where it's horrible. I've saved the prednisone for the horrible days.

Thank you for this thread and the information some of you have had in treating the problems. From reading this thread it seems like most are describing the exact same problem, but a few (the eczema treatment) don't seem to have the swelling, so it sounds like something completely different.

I'm going to print this out and bring it to my doctor. In the mean time, I'm going to cut out alcohol.

Look up Mastocytosis. It's a rare disease but I think it's more due to being under diagnosed rather than actually being so rare. Most doctors have never heard of it. After years of gettin sicker and sicker, I was finally diagnosed and now have this disease under control.

I've never had anything like this before. I woke up a week ago with extremely itchy, slightly swolen hands and feet. When the swelling went down in my hands and feet, I began getting hives. I'd feel a warming sensation somewhere randomly on my body and could literally watch my skin turn red and the welps develop. Within 5 minutes, it's gone then about 30 minutes later, it happens again somewhere else.

One doctor says it's anxiety but really now....I'm a 36 year old woman. Surely this would have happened before now if THAT was the reason!

I've been dosing myself with benadryl but that's getting old really quick. I've been beating myself over the head trying to figure out what I've done that. The only difference in my life is that I'd been on antibiotics on and off for a couple months. I did a bit of research linking the antibiotics to the hives and stumbled across something that blew me away!

There's something that's rarely diagnosed cause the symptoms are so wide scale called Candida Overgrowth. What happens is the Candida (yeast) grows out of control and actually invades the body. Everyone reacts differently to this. Everything going on with me the past couple of months are on the symptom list and I would have NEVER thought ANY of them were related. Bloating, more frequent heartburn, indigestion, urinary tract/bladder infections, nausea, hives/itchy rash, swelling of hands and feet, fluid retention, irritability, anxiety, abdominal cramping, esophageal spasms....

The list literally goes on and on. One person in this thread is convinced that alcohol may have something to do with it. Welp, alcohol is made of yeast. I've got a call into my doctor and I'm gonna lay this on her and see what she thinks. This is the link to one of the many sites I found. Although it says 'condition women', this also affects men.
