okay, I have been having this sh*t for probably two years, it comes and goes for sure, at times it is day to day with no particular consistency. Bottom of feet will be swollen, itch and feel warm, it is painful to walk on and mostly happens at night. I also get random "itchy swell ups" in seemingly random places, i.e. today; an area at the top of my butt crack the size of a half dollar, but other places include my fingers, hands, patchy hive like areas on my back, sometimes legs, it's really annoying and I haven't found anything to get rid of it. I have gone to my dr. and they prescribe allergy meds. or something for swelling, I guess I'm not being persistent enough.
Another note, I had something called 5th's disease when I was younger and it is swelling, itchyness and redness around joints, etc, it also includes a rash...I am not sure if this is related but could be.
In any case, could any of you comment as to whether these symptoms are similar??? thanks and good luck.

hi guys.
i have been getting the symptoms that you are describing for the past 2 months i have gone to the doctors and they have perscribed me with fexofenadine i dont get much swelling only very rarely on my lips thats happend twice.
its so annoying and i want it to stop, it just happend 1day i got all itchy looked down on my body and there were red lumps all over my body,i dnt know what it is and the doctor hasent really helped, the lumps are white in the middle like i have jumped in stinging nettles but bigger does any1 know what it could be, they also join up and make larger lumps.
how can it just randomly start happening

Wow, and here I was thinking I'm the only person in the world with these symptoms. In my case, they started at the same time I started having some heartburn issues. My doctor put me on Nexium, and I'm scheduled to see her again next week, which is when I'll mention the itchy swellings in random areas of my body.
One thing I noticed is that all the posts here are somewhat recent (the oldest is from late last year), so I'm wondering if this is some kind of viral infection that's in the air.
Will keep monitoring this thread for updates!

I have all of these symptoms and I have not had any alcohol in at least two weeks. My face and lower lip was swollen the first morning I woke up, but have not had that particular symptom for about 4 days now.
I went to the ER because I was so miserable, but did not come home with any conclusive answers. They did treat the symptoms and I was comfortable for a very short period of time.
For me the symptoms are far worse at night, I usually wake up wringing my hands together. My feet swell and are painful to walk on- and my hands are swollen, achy and itchy.
The hives seem to pick and choose where they want to be- however they end up all over by the height of it. Even just clothing moving across the top of my skin is torture.
I am going to try to be seen by a doctor in the morning as the symptoms have only gotten worse even with the medication that was given to me. I have to say I am very worried that I will get the same answer that everyone else has-- 'I dont know' is NOT what I want to hear.
I have never had allergies and have no known sensitivites to any foods, I am 23 years old. To the best of my knowledge I have not changed anything around the house.
If anyone has had any luck finding out for sure what this is I would love to know, If I learn anything tomorrow I will post it.
Also, I have noticed it seems that just before the hives start to show (about 10- 15 minutes before) my face will turn red and feel very warm as well as my chest.
I will make a point of writing all of these Ideas of what it could be down to question my doctor tomorrow.
Good luck! I sure need it!

I've had similar symptoms.
I have hives that will appear and disappear within a few hours, then crop up elsewhere. They occur more around my joints (feet and hands especially). I have been tested for Lupus and Rheumatoid arthritis, and I have neither. My white and red blood cell count were also normal. I went to a dermatologist, who tested me for vasculitis (which was negative) and sent me to an allergist/immunologist. The allergist believed it was an allergic reaction, but nothing came up as positive. I am still having hives, even though I am taking 2 different allergy medicines. The only thing that has helped was a 3 week steroid treatment. But a few weeks after the steroid treatment was over, it all came back. My doctors are all stumped.
PLEASE HELP SOMEONE....THIS IS AWFUL!!!!

I had these same symptoms in the beginning of march (swelling on my hands and feet and a bumpy rash on my joints) and after two days and a steroid injection from the urgent care dr they went away. I did go to my primary care physician, they did blood tests and they were all negative. But just a week ago the symptoms came back even worse. I couldnt make a fist or walk hardly my hands and feet were so swollen! Then the rash came back and the itch was near unbearable! I went back to the urgent care and after another steroid injection the dr referred me to an allergist to get tested. I have no idea what this could be! Also i was so cold even in 100 degree weather...

My hives and itching started over a year ago and just keep on getting worse. I've seen a GP,a dermatologist, an internist and an allergist. No one so far has been able to figure out what's going on with me.
The itching started on my torso and has continually spread until the only place I don't itch is my face and head. Then, last month my body swelled up so much that it was painful to move and my heels actually split a bit. Went to urgent care and the doctor put me on a course of prednisone. That helped while I was on it, but the hives and swelling soon returned. Went back to the allergist and was put on a second course of prednisone. I just finished that and the itching and swelling seems to be gradually returning.
I've been treated for mites, wheat-gluten allergy, an infection and have had a patch/scratch test. I've taken lots of Benadryl, am now taking Zyrtec. When it was at its worst I couldn't sleep through the night. I'd get up and take a cool shower, more Benadryl, and wait to get relief. One doctor prescribed Lunesta so that I could sleep, but I still woke up scratching myself til I bled.
Some of you think alcohol may be the problem, I don't drink much at all. I might have 6-12 drinks a year. No one I've seen has been able to figure out what's going on with me. I quit taking all my health supplements and that didn't make a difference either.
I am at my wit's end!!

Hi Everyone,
Would just like to say that I sympathize with all of you.
I have had these symptoms for 6 years and have been tested for everything but tests all come back negative.
One doctor even had the cheek to say that it was all im my mind....because obviously I wanted to get this ill at 30 when my life was going so great!!!!!
I am not able to work as the swelling gets so bad and I often make myself bleed because of my rash which has led to some scarring.
I too am desperate for answers.
I am currently on fexofexidine and a blood thinner called Tranemaxic acid.....though why I am on this is a mystery.
I have gotten where I am too scared to go ask the doctor anything for fear of being called nuerotic.
Any help would be appreciated

Hey all. Yup sounds like me. I have come to the conclusion that all this is do to stress. Stewing in our own adrenaline. I was once told it could also be that we are having a reaction to our own histamine.

Add one more to the list... Yesterday on my way home from work, I began to feel a bit itchy. Around 6-7pm, I found small clusters of what appeared to be little pink mosquito bites in mostly symetrical areas on my body. It began on my legs behind the knees, on my arms behind the elbows, and on either side of my lower waist... I didn't think too much of it; went out to a movie...
10pm, I get home, still itchy. By this point, the small clusters on either side of my waist had each merged into a single large rash -- swollen above thge skin by 1/2 centimemter or so, and seeming filled with some sort or oil maybe? When I'd put pressure on the rash, it seems to almost have a yellowish hue mixed in with the pink.
12am... The spots are creeping up in seemly random spots -- still somewhat symetrical, as now the front of my knees, elbows, arms, legs, feet, hands, back seem to be affected (though not rediculously puffy like my waist qas).. Lips seem to be swollen. I'm a little freaked out by now, but its late friday night, I'll see what tomorrow brings... I'm sleeping on the couch tonight, don't want to risk givibng anything to the wife
Today -- 7am... Firstoff, wife has no symptoms, good thing... The rashes on my waist are still red but no longer puffy; seems to be some improvement but my arms, feet, hands itch. My hands and wrists are now swollen, red, itchy -- tight feeling from the swelling. I've just read this thread and not sure whether to bother with a doctor visit. Up in the air, but I'll report back...
Some other possible relavant facts:
--32,male, this shizzle has never happened before!
--did not eat anything out of the ordinary; salad for lunch, burger for dinner (consumed after itching has started)
--I did consume some alcohol -- two Jameson&Ginger ales... (I'll drink socially, and have never had anyhing lke this hppen)
--I am not on any medication. I do have a history of pollen/animal allergies, but I took allergy shots as a kid and they seem to be contained.
--No known food allergies, and again, haven't eaten aything out of the ordinary...
--I work in an office... No contact with outdoor plantlife yesterday, etc...
--It was odd how the rash progressed. seemed to start out in symetrical fashion, on the backs of knees/elbows... By the joints, specifically the "clammy" areas of the body? Now its by my hands\extremities (altrhough other areas are still affcted) Maybe something with blood flow?
Around 5pm today it'll be 24 hours... Curious to see if/how long it takes to go away on its own. Great f'ckin weekend :-(

I came up in this too. I'm 17. I went to the doctor with an all over rash and swelling of all my joints los and eyelids. I was put in hospital for 3 days with acute urticaria this is also known as hives. Where fluid leaks from blood vessils. However if you have swelling get it seen to like me your throat may swell this then makes it very dangerous. I was put on steroids with you may need if the problem persists. It can last anything between a few hours or 6 weeks. I would recomend cold baths to stop the itching or ice packs. do not itch it. It will make it worse trust me. You will be told it's an allergy however it may be caused by heat or cold or even got no reason what so ever. I would say if you have swelling go to your docor. I was told at first blood poisoning by my doctor but the hospital confirmed urticaria they only kept me in as the swelling was on my face and neck. So don't panic if the doctor says blood poisoning it's a good chance it's not.
Good luck
