Had this problem and thought it was Jock itch so I tried to use some Lotramin and another anit fungal spray but it made it hurt 10 times worse to where it hurt to even walk. I then tried some Bactroban (Mupirocin) that I had from one of my kids bacterial infections and it cleared the rash right up.

do you need a prescription to get Lamisil or are there other antibiotic topical medication?

No, you can get OTC stuff. I recently switched form Lamisil to Tinactin, they have different active ingredients, and the change is AMAZING. The Tinactin works 1000x better for me personally.

hey guys.. i've had this problem the past 2 weeks. I first thought it was jock itch. I had a rash on my inner thigh and it was worse on my scrotum. I tried the OTC antifungal treatments but it still had no improvements. I went to the doctor and she said it was an allergic reaction to my laundry detergent. I had just recently starting using a generic brand just about a month ago. She recommended to use "ALL FREE AND CLEAR" which is free of dyes and perfumes. She also presribed an ointment to use on my already irritated skin to help it heal. Hope this helps.

Hurting: I have the same symptoms and was wondering if the lamisil worked out for you....I have been using an antifungal powder (tough actin tanactin) and I really dont know if it is getting better everytime I treat it, it stings like a mother f****r and I want to know if I should ditch it and go for the lamisil. Does the cream work and how long does it take usually to clear up the rash cause this is awful it itches like crazy and when I put on the antifungal spray it burns like a b***h I was wondering if you had this also during the healing process please let me know

The nature/natural line, I'm not accepting. If taken to its logical (or perhaps illogical) conclusion, it'll mean that we shouldn't be shaving facial hair either. This is not to say that I'm advocating shaving pubes; I'm not. All I'm saying is, I don't think it's causal.
I've suffered through the same problem for years (and I don't shave). I resisted going to a doctor, and have almost gone "over the edge" in the interim. Recently, the itchiness and rash started to spread to sections of my upper and outer body; I have no explanation as to why. I showed that to the doctor (who is my wife, by the way), and here's what she got me: 1/ Betamethasone Valerate Cream 0.1% (requires prescription); 2/ Clotrimazole 1% [antifungal cream]; 3/ Extra Strength Benadryl topical analgesic [this is specifically for itch; doesn't treat fungi, or whatever else the original culprit is]; an alternative is Benadryl tablets 25 mg., to be used with caution (as at bedtime), causes drowsiness. ## 1 & 2 not to be used together, but alternately, since multiple applications per day are advised.
For me, it's only been days, and I've already seen big progress. Truth be told, it's one of the best things that has happened to me in a very long time. But my fingers are still crossed until I'm certain that I'm completely out o' the woods. Prior to this I've tried just about everything else; nothing's worked. I've also read elsewhere about Vitamin B2. Though I don't know exactly what that is, it sounds like something I'd be open to trying. [Yesterday I stopped at a pharmacy to inquire, they told me they're not aware of it -- interesting.]

you need to use the antigungal cream or spray for two week at a minimum, and at least 1 week after ALL signs of the jock itch is gone. Even though you cant see if, it is still there 1 week after all symptoms have disappeared and will return if you dont continue to thrat that extra week. And yes, it often gets much worse during the first week of treatment. But hang in there and keep treating it.

Try using Canesten from the supermarket or chemist, or an anti-fungal cream prescribed by your doctor.
I think you have Tinea Cruris (Jock Itch).
