I get the usual jock itch every so often and it clears right up with a spray and some powder. Then there are the times in my life {twice so far} that I get such a severe case of jock itch infection that I am begging God for mercy.
First step is to go to a dermatologist. Let him see it. If he blows you off by saying "just use Gold Bond" or "buy a spray" then you make the request and insist on antibiotics. This first step is very important because the oral medication is going to kill the infection from the inside and work its way out. While that’s going on, your going to kill the infection on the surface. In 4 days you should be out of the agonizing pain stage and bring the situation down to a mild discomfort. By 7-8 days it should be visibly gone and all discomfort lifted. 12-14 days {finish the antibiotics} so we don’t have a re-infection.
I have taken DOXYCYCLINE TABS and if your not allergic to medications or penicillin, then maybe try this one. It worked for me. By the 3rd day I started to feel better.

Three showers a day. When you wake up, after work and before bed. This needs to be done.
Stop working out and stop all activities such as sports and running. These things will only aggravate the condition and unnecessarily prolong what’s going on.
Don’t use soaps and creams that contain moisturizers and perfume. Such as Dove, Lever 2000,Dial,Irish Spring.
If these are soaps you use regularly you will need to wait till your better before you can go back to them. Some of these soaps will bring much pain and discomfort, so take my advise.
Zest {green} will not hurt you. Zest is safe to use especially on the groin area where testicles, shaft and crevices are infected, inflamed, irritated with saws, bumps and cuts.
Another soap which works well is Ivory. Ivory soap is notorious for drying out your skin which incidentally is what we want to happen here. Depending on where the infection is at, the use of Ivory may or may not cause pain. So use on a very small spot at first and wait to see what happens. Use a wash cloth and use the cloth only once. When the germs and bacteria transfer over to the cloth, they will live and thrive on the material till it is drowned in bleach, vinegar and hot water. Same for towels.
After the shower, the infected area is going to come to life and probably make you very uncomfortable, thanks to the water. This is ok. Its expected. Follow these steps and you will be fine. Once out of the shower, dry infected area with paper towel. Don’t rub, don’t be harsh. Pat dry the area and discard the towel. Do this till all of the excess water is gone. Next take a hairdryer and hold about a foot away from the infection. Dry under sack, between shaft and sack, sides of sack and any place that is out of reach or where skin is deprived of air and light. If pain rears its ugly head at anytime {including the shower itself} and becomes unbearable, have on hand a bottle of BACTINE. Splash it on any part of the infected area and pain, itching and discomfort will seize immediately.
Lamisil is going to be your best friend for the next 2 weeks, so stock up! Along with the Lamisil cream, its necessary to have a jock itch spray also. The Lamisil will be applied half an hour after you get out of the shower so that the application is more effective while the pours are still open. 3 times a day. During the day, after the cream dries up, a shot of the jock itch spray medication should be applied whenever you start to feel the itching. Gold Bond is a good product but works better as a preventive. Same for corn starch and other home remedies. Your in the big league now and serious infections call for serious medications. ZEASORB POWDER AND CREAM work very well and accelerate the drying of the area at an incredible rate. On a happier note, what you have, along with being very painful and disturbing, is also very curable. So hang in there. You just need to stay on top of it and don’t get lazy. Look at it as if your going into war against a persistent bacteria.
I hope this helps someone.

I'm now 4 days into this plague! I'm at my wits end. I'm on prednizone which actually reduced the size of my sack and fluid filled penis back to its normal size. The itching, though has only worsened. Although its been very helpful reading these entries (especially the description of the red thick leathery patch that has covered my scrotum)no one has described the weird domino affect I seem to have....So I start scratching my inner thighs vigorously because the hurt is so good which leads to my scrotum which hurts even better, but what happens is that then one of my arm pits start itching(which also has the poofy red leathery patch by now... which started with some small red dots) Then the other arm pit begs me to scratch it as though there was some devil triggering in my body which says let the torture begin. So this goes on for at least 2 minutes of severe itching/scratching in genitals, then to arm pits radiating to my thighs then up my ribs.Oh, I almost forgot the right back side of my knee has it this raised red patch as well. It really feels like its overtaking my body. the cortizone cream does NOT help. The lamisil does not help. Of course, I want the itch to go away, but if its a deeper problem, it will come back again even if I can somehow find the right homeopathic remedy to lessen the itch for the moment. I feel like I'm decomposing !!!

when you have a burning itchy ball sack please do not have a hot bath . That is the worst thing to do as it brings it on . Instead get some lamisil or lotroderm cream and apply it 2 times per day , in the evening and in the morning. Also get some medicated powder such as gold bond and apply that 4 times per day and keep yourself clean down there . Give your ass an extra wipe after you have a bowel movement and during the day, keep your anus dry and do this faithfully for 1 week and I can almost guarantee your problem will be solved . I had burning itching in my groin area for years and couldnt shake it and then I said its time to get rid of it .I'm a truck driver so its sometimes hard to shower every day . Oh and by the way wear loose fitting clothes too!!!!

I've had this problem off and on for years, and I've found that what works best for me, is the Lotramin jock itch spray, not the cream!!! The cream seems to make my thighs moist, the spray drys them out. As soon as I sprayy the lotramin on my legs, I can feel it working, and it usual clears everything up in about 4 days to a weeks, plus it usually relieves the itching for me immediately! I usually bath and apply it on my thighs about twice a day. Now all I need to do is figure out how to preven jock itch in the first place!

Just read this whole entire board my God I was laughing so hard, as I sit here on my red inflamed leathery ball sac. Which I believe I brought on by my stupid self. Everything was fine until I shaved it. Got a bunch of bumps. Put bump patrol on them they went away for the most part. Then I read some where put hydro cortisone cream on what a mistake that was. Well I off to the urgi-care center and $50.00 shy I got script for the MEDROL PAK. I am actually glad I found this site. The doctor said don't use anything at all nothing. Not even soap. Just wash and dry with water. I was itching so bad F*** I read lubriderm worked tried a similar hand lotion that a little relief for awhile then back to itching. Washed that off with water. Was going to go out and buy gold bond, but i had some baby powder, used that seemed to bring instant relief. I used baby powder before and had no problems dried up everything real nice. I believe I have contact dermatitis, from the bump patrol and hydro cortisone. UGH I had suffered for years from this same problem. I was to different doctors and tried many different scripts. Finally I just gave up and decided to live with the red scrotum. Finally went away until now. I had one doctor give me shots in the scrotum which worked fine for a while. But that stuff had to be removed later with an electric needle vacuum talk about pain OMG. The treatment was worse than the symptoms. Make sure you know the difference between contact dermatitis and fungal infection. Right now the itching has subsided. I just use a little baby powder for now. PHEW will report back on the medrol pak. 21 MethylPredisolone pills. Some other posters know what's up. I did get a fungal infection once in the hot Arizona heat my balls turned all red and itchy almost bleeding. i used Neosporin Jockitch cream not Tinactin that cured them that time. Tried it this time made it worse. I thought I was the only one who wanted to get castrated!

The itcty red rash could be fungal so you may try otc or pescription antifungals. In my case the red leatery feel and burn was due to chafing and overuse of gold bond blue label powder. I used a clear diaper rash ointment from the local grocery store and lots of baby powder over it. it was almost gone in a day then cleared up the next.

I would scratch my scrotum in my sleep until it bled. My doctor prescribed "Nystatin and Triamcinolone Acetonide Cream USP". The itch does not go away forever after using the cream but what a relief. My doctor said at the first notice of this problem coming back to start using the cream again. It is related to sweat. I have been free of it all winter and now that it is getting warmer and I am sweating I have noticed the first signs and am applying the cream.

story of my life at the moment. started on my right thigh right next to my sack about the size of a coin and as that one got bigger the same thing happened on my left thigh. Brushed it off as a sweat rash, heat rash or sack rash as i had started biking across town to university but it just got worse. Now on both thighs using the fold of the skin as the start the rashes are about a 2inch in radius semi-circle and have stopped getting bigger thank god. I self diagnosed jock itch after reading about it online and seeing some photos so went out and got some lamisil. Been using it for 2days and started getting worried as its now turned very red, leathery and raw and got more itchy than its ever been before. I'm in a bit of pain as i write this as i'v just been out running around and its pretty much chaffed on jock itch...shoot me now. Lamisil hurts like a mofo to put on now but thanks to this thread it seems that its just part of the healing process so i'm hopeful it'll heal up a bit before the weekend. If it doesn't start healing up i'm going to go buy some vicks vapor-rub as other forums seem to highly recommend it and it kinda makes sense using it even tho putting menthol by my penis wouldn't normally be a thing i'd consider. As for the people that have had doctors brush of their cases please do me a favor and find their house and rub your jock itch sack all over a towel hes about to use for a shower so they can see how this really does affect you. Not only is it ridiculously uncomfortable but it also hurts the self-esteem a bit. How are you supposed to go to town and pick up chicks when you know you've got this giant secret in your pants ready to burst out to scare them. Keep your heads up boys it'll be over soon
