I have the same exact symptoms, but the cream the doc gave me makes it so much worse. The itch gets worse and the rash breaks out worse and more red. I was diagnosed as having a Yeast infection. The name of the cream is mycolog II cream sou. Should I stick with it as these symptoms are normal, or was I misdiagnosed and should seek another treatment method? Thanks FOR your HELP.

Wow, can't believe I found this site. It helps to read posts that relate exactly to my situation. Basically, I've had this condition for nearly 4 years. It started on my scrotum with three red blister type spots and in time they went but the problem worsened, as the area turned bright red/ pink and it ended up spreading to about 80% of the scrotum and worse up my backside, which without wanting to be graphic, isn't a good feeling when you go to the toliet...
When I went to the doctors originally, I was prescribed some anti fungal cream. Infact, I was prescribed a few different ones over time and they never helped a jot and in some cases, made the situation worse. The doctor said if it's anti fungal, using that will clear it up within two weeks at most. As I say though, it never did and he referred me to a dermatoligist who said it was eczema- He gave me some steriod cream and it did nothing. I kept going back and each time they would prescribe me similar creams which would have no effect and like the anti fungal cream, make matters worse in some cases, as the testicles would heat up and be so uncomfortable. In the end, I gave up with them, as it started to become expensive and pointless.
I went to another dermatoligist about a Circumcision scar treatment; which obviously when you have that problem as well as a skin problem on the testicles doesn't help your confidence or mood. Anyway, he told me that you should never use steroid creams down below. He said they give you a false sense, in that, it appears to make the problem better at first, but over time makes things worse. He told me just to wash using fragrence free shower cream and mosturize the area using doublebase or something similar. A few months later and things remain as bad as ever. When you have it in that area flare ups are always going to happen for the obvious reasons stated earlier. And I'm sure everyonce can relate that giving up things like masterbation and exercise can't be done, even though the consequences that follow make for a bad time duing and particually afterwards... Regarding mosturisers, doubebase for me is a big hindrance. It heats up the area, which in turn causes burning. Has anyone else used it in that area and found that? If so, are there any mosturisers you could recommend which are avaliable in England? Anyway, needless to say, I stopped using doublebase there. Just wondering also does anyone get flare ups around the eyes? I've found that drinking in excess can make my eyes so red and itchy, to the point where they swell up and take a few days to get back to normal....
Sorry to go on. My conclusion is though, I'm just not sure if the problem is eczema? I'm starting to doubt it, as it just sounds so similar to something along the lines of a yeast infection from reading the descriptions, even though I know I've tried many anti fungal creams without joy. I think I'm to have a go out at using Lamsil, as it's at the very least worth a try. Like you guys, it's become such a big issue for me. I don't know if you agree but it certainly causes depression. Some doctors I feel are dismissive and unsympathetic. One told me "just don't look at it" to which, I was thinking easy for you to say, considering you haven't had to deal with it. I think his philosphy was that as the area is covered most of the time, it shouldn't be a big concern!! As we know though, it is because it's on show to people we're with and to us, the itching makes it conspicuous. I'll shut up now anyway. Like I mentioned though, I'm glad I've found people who have shared similar experiences. Just hope it sorts it's self out for everyone. If anyone has any advice, that would be great.

okay guys what you have is not jock itch. jock itch occurs on the inner thighs beside the scrotum where it rests. IF YOU HAVE ITCHING ON YOUR SCROTUM FOLLOWED BY A SERIOUS BURNING AND EXCRETION OF PLASMA, THEN SMOOTH LEATHERY SKIN THAT EVENTUALLY WILL PEEL OFF YOU MUST SEE A SPECIALIST. IT IS IN FACT AN STD AND CAN BE TREATED BUT NOT WITH LAMASIL OR ANY OVER THE COUNTER CREAM. I am sorry i cant be of any help i am actually looking to see if anyone has found a cure on their own lol because i do not remember the name of the drug i was perscribed. The name of this infestation is "itchy scrotum" in latin which i also do not remember what that is, guys find a dermatologist.

Ok guys. I have the same problem, and have tried all kinds of creams, herbs, etc. Nothing. Anyone ever come up with anything?
Lamisil is the only conclusion that I've seen, but I've had no luck. I might try the Betadine that someone posted in the early part of this thread. But if anyone here found a solution, please post for everyone here.

This thread is freaking awesome. The past two years I've seen two dermotologists and they have not been able to "cure" me.
I know it's not an STD because it started when I was still a virgin (the 30 year old virgin in my case) and my wife has never had a problem.
After getting ZERO minutes of sleep last night due to the insane itching and burning I am looking forward to trying lamasil (i ran out of prescription medicines and still waiting to here back from my dermo).
And I definitely appreciate the tip about the certain types of fabrics in boxers making it worse. I thought it was my detergent because I have noticed that some of my boxers make it flair up really bad and other pairs have no ill effects.
Lastly, has anybody tried sleeping in the buff? I've never been able to fall asleep naked but I'm desperate to get some sleep.
Do you think it will help?

Don't laugh but if you apply Vic's Vapor Rub both the itching and rash will be gone within a week.

In my case, it just appeared 1 week ago and I met a dermatologist yesterday. He said it looks like irritation and prescribed Protopic 0.03% (non steroïd ointment). I applied it on my scotum yesterday afternoon and it got so worse that I wasn't able sleep all night long, even if I took 20mg of hydroxyzine to avoid the itching and burning sensation.
I can't believe there are so many people stuck with that issue and there is no real treatement that helps..
Good luck to all of you!

I've got the same red rash, it's very smooth. It doesn't itch or burn. I wear boxer briefs and tight pants and I lift weights everyday so I do sweat quite a bit for about two hours everyday. Do you think that might be making the rash worse?
Hahahahahaha, I thought it was an STD also. It'll make me think twice before getting my shag on with grody chickas.

If jock itch, the hydrosol cream will be useful to reduce the inflammation and redness. However, hydrosol is a steroid - so, it will reduce the ability to fight of the fungus but will reduce the side-effects. Creams like hydrosol are not anti-fungal, therefore, they will only reduce the swelling but not fix the fungal infection. Use the hydrosol (or similar steriod) cream for only a few days, to a week. Then switch to an anti-fungal cream, like lamisil. Continue using for up to 2 weeks after noticing that the infection has gone.

TO help everyone out with RED ITCHY SCROTUM....first look at .........your condition is probably going to be in one of two sections......if its just on your scrotum and maybe a little on your penis, look at allergic contact dermatitis. If its running from scrotum down to crease of you leg and so forth, look at fungal infections candiasis.
If the area on ur scrotum started out red and shiny and leathery, without skin flaking off and itching worse than anything in world, it is prolly contact dermatitis, prolly from too much touching, sex lubs, changing washing powder, heat, or scented body washes. DO not put hydrocortisone on ur genital ever!!! It thins the skin of penis and scrotum and make you have more problems down the road. The best treatment is washing area with just plain water and trying to keep area cool and dry......in addition to taking Medrol pak. When taking the Medrol pak the area should has vast improvement within 24 hours and keep looking better everyday. Take benadryl oral to help with the itching. DO NOT TAKE opiate pain killers since they have a tendency to make most people itch. If this does not cure all the way, you might need a 14 day medrol pak. If it does not help the problem, then its probably a yeast infection.
In case of yeast infection. They are numerous remedies OTC and should cure problem in 3-4 days, but continue using for full 2 weeks. If no improvement is noted with anti-fungals otc in 3-4 days then it probably is not a yeast infection. Then check with you doctor about condition. If they insist it is a yeast infection, insist on oral anti-fungal pills and prescription strenght cream. Yeast infections conditions very greatly in everyone and could look like a STD. Most the time in a STD such as herpes the condition is very easy to identify or you dont have syptoms at all. The best way to determine this is have swab of sore for culture or have a blood test done.
Lastly if you have purlent drainage (pus) from the skin, go to doctor. THis will probably need some kind of antibiotic and will not heal on its on.
Hope this helps anyone that has this condition. it is painful.

Forgot to add that my doctor thought is was yeast infection and after 2 weeks of spray lotrim and then a week of ketoconzale pill and cream it was no better. That when I looked on and realized it was probably contact dermititis. I was in so much agony and itching to death! After 24hours of taking medrol dose pak day 1, the condition was not as red and all the shiny wrinkles in my scrotum was gone. Condition has yet to come back. Think it was from a sex lube I was allergic to. Have not used the lube again and havent had any problem.
