I've had my Paraguard IUD for about 2 years and over the past year I've had a series of BV and yeast infection problems. Nothing has changed except getting the IUD. I'm considering having it removed.

I done had my IUD for a year now. I recently had the same problems and still do. I went to the doctor because I didnt know if my boyfriend gave me something or it was just a yeast infection. My OB/GYN told me it was a bacterial cause by my IUD and that eating yogurt would help it. I did exactly what she said and it cleared up for about 2 wks. Now im having the same problem. The smell is so bad you can smell it through your clothes. I wash down there all the time but hours later it comes back. The white discharge is ridiculous to the point i bring extra underwear with me where i go. Thanks for sharing your information because now i know my IUD is causing this and not MY MAN lol. I will be calling my Dr. in the morning to get it remove.

I had my first Mirena placed in Jan. 2004 six weeks after giving birth to my daughter. I had it replaced in Feb. of 2009, never experiencing any problems other than weight gain until maybe 2 months ago. I thought I had a yeast infection, my partner started complaining of the odor or "stench" & it got to the point where we couldn't even have sex because he couldn't stand the smell. He accused me of sleeping with other men stating that smell is from having sex with multiple men and them ejaculating inside me. Not the case at all (I don't sleep around) & honestly he knows that. It made me upset every time he NSAID something and even cry at times. I'm a very clean person, this was humiliating to me. I went to the Dr. on Dec. 31st only to find out I had BAV. The Dr. prescribed some antibiotics Andy sent me on my way. Well here I am 25 days later and tads!!!! It's back! Boggles my mind after 8yrs and only now I'm having issues. Looks like its time to have it removed for good. :( I really like not having my period too!

same thing that happened to me. my 1st iud minor issues like bv once in a while just like the yeast infections once in a while. then I had it removed got pregnant had my daughter then had another one inserted and it was down hill from there. 2 1/2 yrs and I was getting multiple bv infections with yeast infections on a monthly basis. I demanded to have it removed but of course the doc was trying to tell me the iud wasn't causing it. after removal I started to feel better with no issues rather quickly

I had the Mirena for almost two years before I decided to take it out and go back on the depo. I have endometriosis so I needed a birth control option that would eliminate my periods. I couldn't do the pill because I would forget to take one and end up.getting a period and my nuva ring always fell out during sex. After having it for two years I got really sick of the random cramps (I never had them on depo and my period stopped after one dose and a few days of spotting). I get them so bad I can't get out of bed for days and had to take narcotics in order to control the pain. I was getting bvs all of the time and the odor was terrible and I knew other people, especially my boyfriend could notice it too. I got tired of not wanting to have sex with him and especially not wanting to have oral sex. It ended up hurting our love life and relationship. Since I've been back on the depo, no bv or yeast infections. I had seen multiple obgyns and primary doctors as well as asked er doctors and they all said that the mirena had nothing to do with it. I believed them because their job is to know!! Well they were wrong! I hope anyone they has this and notices that they're getting bv or yeast infections gets it out immediately and doesn't suffer as long as I did as well as several other women I know. I know not everyone has problems with it, but it would be nice to be told that those are possible side effects/ complications.

The same has been happening to me and in recent light of all of the lawsuits being filed because of the mirena, I am contacting my doctor tomorrow, not only to treat my current infection in which my long time bf and I became aware of after intercourse recently but to have the damn thing removed! I too have had several bacterial infections because of it.....

I had Mirena for almost 5 years. I just had it removed today. For the last year I have had problems with yeast infections and BV. I had never had these issues before. After repeated treatments for these issues my doctor recommended we remove Mirena. I feel better already and it has only been out for 10 hours. It is a very convenient method of birth control but seems to have potential to increase infections.

I had my Marina a very short time, about 5 months. I was 20 when i got it inserted, i'm 21 now and have no kids. So this seemed like a good birth control plan. and even after the first month  i had still had severe uterine pain, and i noticed i began having a mirky white discharge ALL THE TIME, i started wearing panty liners just to try to save my underwear. and I'm huge on personal hygiene so when i started to notice the smell i was concerned.  Last week i went to my doctor with a list of things wrong with me, the uterine pain, mood swings, dizziness, and of course the discharge and smell. My Doctor decided to take a look at my IUD and told me i had to have it removed ASAP (as in that visit) because she saw the severity of the Bacterial infection, Also my string had maybe 2 centimeters left.  I was given a gel for the infection, which is to help clear it up.  But if the infection wasn't bad enough news.. my Doctor called me the other day to tell me they were screening me for HPV which with an infection and my Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome it is the perfect breeding ground for the virus.  I personally have had nothing but problems with this IUD. but i'm glad i'm not the only one to have some of the same issues.

I had the IUD (Mirena) in 2005.  I was told by 5 Dr's from 2 different offices tell me it absolutely was not the IUD.  I just had it removed and I am so relieved.  It didn't matter that I hadn't displayed any symptoms prior, they were not even going to look into it.  I let them know all the sites that mentioned it.   I hope I was right.  I would never suggest this as an option.  Lesson learned.
