I have had consecutive bv positive tests--6 in a row. After the 6th (with treatments with metronidazole and flagelle after each positive test plus a chaser of a diflucan for the attendant yeast infection) I tried homeopathic approaches. I take probiotics and have used garlic and yogurt orally and intravaginally. This seems to help but it is annoying to do regularly. I just had another positive bv and yeast test and found this site. I found this site and now wonder if it is my Mirena that is causing the problems. I have had this one for over a year and another one for 5 years before that. I think I have had chronic bv and yeast the whole time. I am going to have the mirena removed and see if that helps. I am frustrated that there is little official info on the a possible link. Has anyone experienced improvement in symptoms after removal of mirena?

I'm obviously 4 years late on this post... But I was wondering if when you removed your IUD it cleared things up, and if you can still have children? That's is what I'm most worried about.... If you wouldn't mind email me back I would be so thankful!!

I, and many of us as you can see, have spent a lot of $ going to the doctor only to be told that there is no issue, that it isn't the IUD, or that we have yet another problem with yeast infections after antibiotics & BV over and over again. This is a joke! Nobody wants to smell like a dumpster! I went ahead and did an adverse event reporting to FDA (Food & Drug Administration). They have a web form to complete where you tell them what the issue is (give dates of medical treatment, implantation, etc) and you put in data about the device. All of that info is on the Mirena web site. The side effects listed for this device include just those associated with an IUD, not so much the drug that is in the IUD, but that is also in the facts about the device on the Bayer/Mirena web page. Nothing says anything about repeated BV or Yeast infections. It should say something as a warning, so I filed a report on the web site. https://www.accessdata.fda.gov/scripts/medwatch/medwatch-online.htm (see right side of the screen to do this on line) Its the best bet in getting the problem addressed. There may be the same problem that was associated with some previous IUDs where the placement wires/strings were sort of wicks sucking up bacteria and pulling it into the uterus which caused infection after infection. Depends on what the wires/strings are made out of, but it seems to be a good possible reason for the problem. I've had this in for nearly 3 years. Enough is enough. Its got to come out or the problem has to be solved.

Mine did not go away sadly. I have had it removed for almost a year and the BV keeps happening. I go form yeast infection to bv back to YI. I wish I would never have made the mirena mistake.

I had the Mirena put in in 2006 and removed in 2009 to get preg. I never had any problems at all with it. Due to deployments I didn't get preg until 2011 and my baby was born in 2010. I had another Mirena placed at that time and here I am less than a year and having trouble. I have had discharge and odor which I have never had before in my life. I have an apt to have the IUD removed all together and try a different method of BC. Its a thick white discharge that smells even worse after sex. I don't douche and I shower daily and even shave regularly. I have talked to several other ladies having the exact same problem as myself. Also after sex I will have a pinkish discharge that smells and I have never had this either.

Hello Ladies, June of this year will make five years since I got the Mirena inserted and it will be time for it to come out as well. I love the convenience of having it and not having to take pills, getting shots or changing out patches or rings. But that dang BV keeps coming back and it is very embarrassing. I have been treated for BV over 10 times starting two years ago. I do not know whats the next option for birth control but I have just about tried everything and I do not want to get my tubes tied because I plan on getting married and having another child. I am soooooo upset with the IUD that I have a doctor's appointment next week and is really considering getting it remove then. Any suggestions. HELLLLLLLLLPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP

I think it does! I got my IUD in Feb 12, this past summer (July 12) I got a UTI that it put me in the hospital with a kidney infection! Not to mention the EMBARRASSING odor! (BV)

i know exactly what everyone is going through! I get horrible cramps and pains before every period and put it down to this, but now I realize its my coil. I have now got an infection, which i thought was down to not drinking enough. I have had plenty of these before and it feels like it, but after reading the other replies i now know that is not the case. I can not feel my strings, although my bf said he can feel the coil when we have sex which i also found out to be wrong. How do i go about removing the coil myself, as i am going away in a few days and i wont have time to see a dr? I don't know how much more pain i can go through, last time i was on the pill i got pregnant so i am scared of going back to that. Has anyone got any advice, it would be much appreciated!

just wondering...are all of you who are having these problems monogamous? I mean, i just want to clarify that if the IUD works for monogamy but fails if multiple or at least one other partner enters the scene.

I am monogamous and still had major issues with the IUD. Since my post I removed it . THe smell is gone but the scaring is still healing
