So bad I keep infecting my husband with burns......... did you notice things going back to normal once removed? I have been thinking about removing it for month now. Well everyone I got my IUD out on the 1st of Aug. and then only thing I can thing of at this point is I am so glad I did. I did have a few headaches not bad just slight. And all I can think of is how great the feeling was once it was removed! All I can do now is wait and see if the problem with BV comes back. I loved having the IUD no other symptoms, just that , but that alone was worth the removal. I noticed to how a bit less pressure I think I have from having that in there. (hard to explain, you will know if you remove it) at this point its wait and see!

I have not gone back to birth control , using condoms at the moment. Next year I will be 40 and not going to be having any more children. My husband just want me to level myself out from all the methods I have used. So this is our route for now. We are looking at getting "fixed" just not ready to jump into yet. lol We were both always very careful of being clean all the time so now its just wait and see mode for us on whats going on. I thought I was diabetic to and was checked out clear. Good luck and keep me posted. Oh by the way, I did have a small period that started and lasted lightly about 2-3 days, very light after the removal but it came like two days after the removal. So now I have that marked to see if I will be having one next month! Keep us posted! Good luck I feel your pain!

Hi

I had a Mirena( IUD) for 5 years now.I just got it replace 2 months ago.resently I was diagnose with an urinary tract infection.I never had an uti before. My doctor gave me antibotics for it.It still didn't go away.So she gave me some didnt antibotics and it still didnt help.I have had this problem:The left side under my rib cage hurt,my lower back pain,my lower abdominal pain, the frequent need to urinate, blood in urine,it smells like pee when i urinate, and my vagina is always wet with an odor.I had this for about 5 or 6 months now.I just came from seeing my primary doctor last week, and she told me that the uti medication is sensitive to the IUD.The IUD is rejecting the medication. So i need to go see my gynecologist,The person who insert my Mirena.I have an appointment with them in 2 weeks,so I might have to get it removed.I hope this helps.

Thank you so much for posting this. I'm so tired of going back and forth to the Dr for the same issues being told the Mirena has nothing to do with it. I really thought something was wrong with my body and just had to suffer through this.

Like most of you that commented, I am having some of the same complications. I had the Mirena inserted April 2012. Even though I don't have periods, the odor and frequent yeast infections have been very troublesome. About a month ago, I went to get my yearly check up and was diagnosed with BV, which I received an antibiotic for treatmeant. Since then the ordor has not been that strong but the itching has been more severe and now my discharge has gone from a thick white color to brown. I called my OBGYN for my results to see if I had an STD and that was not the case. Now I find myself taking atleast 3 showers a day and having to use a liner to try and control the discharge along with the smell. I truly believe it is the IUD and I am getting this removed immediately!! Thanks everyone

I had got the Mirena and got like 4 kidney infections and hospitalized for them.. i have never had problems a few yeast infections here and there but.. I either had uti or a kiddney infection all the time.. I told my doctor to take it out because they were telling my there was a risk if i keep getting kidney infections that my kidneys could fail.. I have not had the IUD for over a year and havent had any infections but from the kidney infections i did have it messed up my kidneys..

OMG I feel so much better about myself reading all of these posts!  I have had my IUD for almost 2 years and ever since I got it I have had infection after infection with crazy weird nasty smells and insane itching that drove me crazy and left me feeling completly raw and torn up down there from wiping my self like crazy trying to stay clean!  I am getting this thing removed soon!  I love not having periods and I haven't gained weight from this thing but I can't stand this whole infection smell itch thing that is there all the time.  I would rather bleed my life away for a few days than itch and deal with infection everyday or week of my life.  Thanks to whom ever started this because like I said this has been driving me crazy.  I always feel dirty and I am always worried that someone smells me and I never want to have sex.  LIFESAVER!

I had the exact same problem with the mirena. The circumstances were a little different though. When you first get the mirena the doctor tells you that you will experience some bleeding that will gradually go away. My bleeding did gradually get lighter but at the lightest what I thought was blood turn to a brown fishy discharge. I would have to wash and wash myself to get any relief from the smell. I was too embarrassed to go to the doctor so I started researching my mirena side effects on the internet (I do not recommend self diagnoses). I found some information about bacterial vaginosis. I chose to treat it myself (I am also not recommending this) with a douche mixture of 1/4 cup of peroxide and 2 cups of water. I douched every night for a week. The first day I tried it, it was instant relief. My vagina felt so much better. The constant fishy discharge dried up. After that week I didnt have any more problems. I have since removed my iud in order to conceive. Now that I have my daughter, there is the issue of birth control again, but it will not be a mirena.
